T-Mobile cuts BlackBerry Bold 9700 and Curve 8520 prices

Retail

AT&T isn’t the only one enjoying lower prices on BlackBerry’s latest handsets. T-Mobile is now offering the Bold 9700 for $129.99 and the Curve 8520 for $79.99, like we reported in a Whisper a little whle back. If you’re a hardcore BlackBerry user and you haven’t upgraded to a trackpad-equipped device yet, now is the best time to jump on the bandwagon. Of course, T-Mobile’s pricing is still slightly higher than AT&T’s at $30 a piece, but if you’re tied to T-Mobile either for coverage, loyalty or love, it sure beats the original pricing. Keep in mind that new contracts and all the bells and whistles apply, but you already know that. Enjoy!

    First. Blackberry rules

I bought at 199$ a few days ago, then went back and they gave me a credit. cool beans.

I think it’s also important to mention that T-Mo’s prices do not require a MIR, but that ATT/VZW/Sprint all require MIR. So… technically on the date of sale T-Mo’s prices are in fact better than the other big 3.

People in my store are eating up our 9700′s like no tomorrow.

We just got a shipment of 40 on Monday and we’re already out of stock.

The 8520 sells okay but not like the Bold does. Prepaid users like the 8520 because they like the messaging capabilities of RIM but don’t want a data plan.

    • Really?

I just don’t get why anyone would buy a device only capable of 3.6Mbs on a network that offers 7.0Mbs.

Wait… stop, let me counter argue myself before anyone else can: Is there anyone who’s actually seen speeds past 3.6MBs… or even better… has anyone even been able to hit 3.6Mbs??

But despite that fact, I still couldn’t bring myself to get a 9700 now. It would be like buying a CRT TV in 2008.

Funny story…ATT has those phones for less with INSTANT rebates

    • M L

Source? ATT.com shows it for $99 after $100 MIR. I’m talking direct. Not resellers.

    • SM

Funny story… ATT charges at least $30 more a month for their plans…

    + 1 on the 9700!

Great call quality. I just ported from Verizon and activated 2 of these bad boys.

The UMA feature is king. I work in a lab underground and no cell service works there. We do have WiFi so I hooked up my device to our WiFi network and now I can make/receive calls with no problems while my coworkers look on with envy.

WiFi calling should be a must have feature in all BlackBerry’s IMHO.

Just got a new Bold 9700 from T-Mobile USA on that unlimited voice/text and data plan for $79.99 per month.

I like everything about it EXCEPT the web browser is lacking. But I guess that’s true with all BlackBerry’s.

Love the keyboard and camera though.

Paired perfectly the first time with my BT car kit and my address book loaded flawlessly.

The look and feel of this device is very classy. I’m not sure if it’s the device or T-Mobile but if feels so Euro using them. I used to use Sprint but I couldn’t help but feeling that I was using something subpar with them. Not a knock to the network but the employees were less than classy.

If you want the browser to display full HTML and not mobile browser you can always go into the settings and change that.

…Or just install Opera Mini 5 and it works like a real browser

I’ve been with T-mobile for 8 years, I just added 2 years to my contract last May, and I’m broke (well, not really), so I got the 8520.

I almost got the 9700, but I a) wanted a white berry and I don’t feel like trying to change the housing and 2) the 8520 suits my needs perfectly.

    • http://twitter.com/c0rinne Corinne

Oh, and Tmo gave me the berry at the 79.99 price, even though I still had a year and a half left on my contract.

  • JB

LOL for people hitting the “-” button on a true statement.

  • JB

    @ Melissa Martinez

You can DL Opera or Opera Mini (the free version) for the 9700 and ditch the blackberry web browser. Much better IMO

  • Mama Obama’s Big Big Butt

If you purchase devices at Best Buy, there is no MIR and you have 30 days to return with NO restocking fee, like at an ATT store. That’s the ticket. 9700 is sweet, but I miss the keyboard girth of the old Bold.

    • 9700bb

even walmart has them at alot lower prices with no MIR, i got my 9700 for 49.99 with no MIR

      • Saif Rahman

Yeah, but some 3rd party retail vendors don’t match the upgrade price.

      • Tina

        Best Buy does.

      • Tina

        Best Buy does.

  • JB

and most 3rd party retailers will screw you with a much higher ETF that’s already high with some carriers

  • victoria

By 50%… dang, Verizon is giving them away for free when you buy one. Plus, they are already 50.00 to 100.00 less then AT&T. This shows you AT&T deosn’t have the money to do big sales like Verizon does. Why compare the 8520 to the 9700 or 8900? No need. lol. 8520 Details:

I just ordered the 9700 to upgrade my aging 8110 for $99 on the AT&T website. No mail-in rebate for a debit card or any of that foolishness. $106 after tax with free 2-day shipping.

    • Sean

      8100… not 8110.

  • mi_canuck

If only they’d cut the no contract price on the 9700… still overpriced at 450

  • Tina

I don’t know why my comment posted twice, sorry.
I was trying to say that Best Buy matches upgrade prices. They will also match other retailer’s prices if they’re lower and no, they do not charge restocking or ETF fees. They are ver honest and pleasant to deal with and offer full service on phones and contracts.

  • eli_the_great

Actually although T-Mobile’s numbers are higher than that of At&ts, T-Mobile doesn’t require mail-in-rebates. So up to you to get 100 dollars in merchandise credit from At&t.

i recently upgraded to the 9700 and love it, a quality pda at a reasonable price.

RIM refuses to address KB20150 out of laziness. The handheld software version v5.0.0.330 is incapable of displaying the Sender name of SMS messages when the Contact has a ‘-’ in the field. In other words, if you use MS Outlook for Contact Mgmt you will not know who is sending you SMS messages unless you A) memorize everyone’s number or B) Go through and delete the Dash from ALL of your contacts. Level 2 support at RIM as of 2/23/2010 still says that the ticket is open and nothing is being done. This phone is flawed and also contains “other” glitches when using the Switch Device Wizard FYI.
A Dash? For Real? How Long does it take for a programmer to add a ‘-’ to be recognizable in the library?
