T-Mobile rolls out Windows Mobile 6.5 for Touch Pro2 and Dash 3G, Sprint waits for 6.6 ?

Rumor

HTCTouchPro2

Following closely on the heels of Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile has rolled out Windows Mobile 6.5 for its Touch Pro2 and Dash 3G handsets. The update rolled out earlier than the target  date of January 20th and is accessible from T-Mobile’s website once you enter in your handset’s IMEI. While AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile customers now enjoy the new experience offered by Windows Mobile 6.5, Sprint customers are left waiting in the wings. Their patience may be rewarded as Sprint customers may be getting something more than the plain jane Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade. A statement from Sprint suggests that the Sprint flavor of Windows Mobile 6.5 may offer “significant enhancements to the Touch Pro2 user interface which will allow additional customization / personalization options and more integration with the applications users access most.” Is Sprint promoting this upgrade with over-hyped marketing speak  in order to placate Touch Pro2 owners or is Sprint really alluding to the mythical Windows Mobile 6.6 which is rumored to be unveiled at MWC 2010 next month?

Wonder if Telus will ever update their TP2

    Posted from BGR Mobile (iPhone).

Do you guys know there is no such thing yet as WM 6.6. There is WM 6.5.3 but not 6.6. Where do people get 6.6 from?

    • Rich

Here’s where WinMo 6.6 comes from:

      http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20100114PD216.html

The strange part is that the 6.5/6.6 update is geared towards capacitive screens, which the TP2 does not have.

Time will tell when Sprint gets around to releasing the TP2 update in the next few mos.

      • Peter F

It supports capacitive screens but has UI enhancements that any screen benefits from. I am using the newest builds on my Tilt 2 and it makes it much easier to use without a stylus. I never pull mine out because everything is large enough without it.

I’m using 6.5 on my Touch Pro and I feel the same about it but the new menu style causes some incompatibilities with older programs. Especially if you’re using a build that uses the round soft buttons, since they’re a tiny bit bigger any program that fit on one screen is either chopped off at the bottom or in the case of a menu, needs a scroll bar to see the last 2mm of screen.

The problem with being more touch friendly is those big damn buttons take up too much room on a tiny phone screen.

yay, will get one soon instead of my apple, looks better .. !!

  • PaloAltoWorldView

Where on the T-Mobile USA web site does one go in order to obtain this download? I don’t see where it is found.

    • Big Len

Good question. I’ve been looking now for almost an hour and T-Mo’s search is useless.

      • xnifex

right now the only way to get to it is to select the dash 3g & then change the last part of the URL to tp2.

or hit the read link up above for tmonews & they have the direct link.

  • Andariego

I’m so pissed off. The Sprint WM 6.5 better blow me away. 6.1 has way too many glitches and keep lagging on my TP2.

Miguel does not have time to play mechanic because he is on this site 24/7 and has no life ;-)

  • Celz

The Roms for Sprint phones have landscape and you can add anything sprint back on.. and it takes literally 15 mins to flash a rom..

Im glad Sprint is releasing the update it will help the chefs who cook the roms make them better and give the people who dont flash a needed upgrade…
