HTC Espresso, aka MyTouch Slide or myTouch2, to hit T-Mobile USA in May?

Rumor

Picture-112

TmoNews is reporting on three hot new handsets that are rumored to be hitting T-Mobile in this first quarter of 2010. One handset is the HTC HD2 which was made official at CES. The second is an unknown handset from Garmin that was spotted recently at the FCC showing off its AWS band and is rumored to be launching in May. Last but not least is a handset identified as the myTouch2, also referred to as the myTouch Slide and codenamed the Espresso. Android fans will recognize that last codename has been making the rounds in the rumor mill over the past few months. It has shown up in a list of codenames from a leaked Android 2.1 ROM, will be rocking the latest version of HTC’s Sense UI and may have the same 528MHz processor found in the Hero/Magic, a QWERTY keyboard and a 320×480 display. This latest revelation now places the handset as the potential successor to the myTouch 3G with a T-Mobile launch tentatively set for May 17th. Any future Android owners out there going to pass on the Nexus One and wait on the Espresso?

Any future Android owners out there going to pass on the Nexus One and wait on the Espresso? Hell no!

  • Zapote21

LOL.. Why not just wait until Espresso is ported to the rooted Nexus?
So to answer your question… NO…

  • EDF

I could dig it because of the keyboard but that processor is a drawback.

This is already ported to the G1/MyT3G on XDA…I’m running it now.

The only advantage this phone has over the N1 is the keyboard. But it has a much smaller screen resolution, a slower CPU, and anyone wanting this UI + N1′s specs should just wait for the Bravo which is basically that. Also, while I usually don’t believe the rumors, a keyboard in N1′s upcoming business edition seems pretty logical.
So this phone isn’t N1′s competitor, this is a much lower-end phone for a completely different target group.

Why is it that t-mobile is getting all these kick ass devices yet their network coverage is doodoo.

what a funny thing to say…oh I’d much rather have an iphone 3gs so I could drive from one end of town to the other looking for the 3g parts…nope, nope, gonna stick with my G1 that knows 3g is EVERYWHERE…thanks.

@ Latoya – Sweety go do something productive for once. Read a book. Go catch a period or something.

I’m pretty sure its the AT&T phone that was canceled, but not really because its specs were just bumped up. Here it is..

Looks like a MyTouch Slider to me.. maybe both T-Mobile and AT&T will be getting it.

That UI is about as fugly as the one on the storm. What the hell are they thinking?

  • JFA

cool. Another smartphone with a real keyboard :) .

but what is up with that same tired ass 528 MHZ processor. I really hope they don’t insert that junk in there.

    • joshua

this will be my phone if they bump up the processor.

    • SomeYoungGuy

It’s HTC… so they’ll use that processor. They must have bought a warehouse full?

      • Peter F

More than a warehouse, they would have used that up by now by putting it in ALL of their phones except the HD2 and Nexus One.

  • Galen20K

My Nexus One is a much Better phone than the Espresso/MyTouch slide will be but it Will be a decent phone for the average consumer. I just think they should bump up the processor at least though.

  • WTF

what the eff is with the prossecer and the resolution.

  • Mason

Yea the processor is a con. Oh well. Next. Another missed opportunity if this is true.

I prah that they don’t use that processor again, what did the phone do to HTC to be held back before coming close to production?!

this phone has just one advantage over the N1 is the keyboard. But it has a much smaller screen resolution, a slower CPU, and anyone wanting this UI + N1’s specs should just wait for the Bravo which is basically that.

T-mobile is getting some really nice handsets, hd2, n900, bold 9700 etc. They really offer some great stuff and where they have 3g its solid. I wish other companies verizon and att would get these super nice handsets
Once a ROM leaks out, the floodgates are opened.

Welcome to the wonderful world of HTC bootloaders, my friends. Espresso details: http://bit.ly/htc-espresso-details

Tech Heads, FYI – Some phones are built for the general public, they don’t know the difference between 1.5 and 2.1 however both are more then enough for the general user, don’t complain its not for you. All tech heads have a Hero, Droid or Nexus One. besides with all this power they are taunting there are currently no apps on the market that could even match the capabilities of the 528MHz processor, until then we have nothing to worry about and if you dont like it dont buy it, another phone will be out next week!…lol

    • Beige

Exactly! Some phones are targeted towards the average consumer, who doesn’t know the difference between a 528 and a Snapdragon; nor do they need it. This seems like a cool phone for your average, or entry level, smart phone consumer.

that is how I feel about Android as well… the droid and even nexus one will be irrelevant by the end of the summer with something better than can only run the new updated OS
