Rumor

HTC Magic owners disappointed by Rogers’ announcement that the Dream was going to stay at Android 1.5 may have cause to rejoice. A post from a Rogers rep over at Android forums claims that Rogers is putting together a promotion that will provide current Dream owners a limited time opportunity to upgrade to the HTC Magic. Rogers is reportedly still working on the details of the promotion but if it pans out, Dream owners may have a shiny, new Android handset in their future.

I’m so glad i bought a magic when i did.
Knowing rogers this “promotion” will be either free upgrade or something like $1. The magic was already on sale for $1 during Christmas so they’re smart enough to stick with that price option.

But dont forget when you upgrade your signing your life away for another 3 years.

Dream owners are better off waiting for the next android phone to be released by Rogers, so that they get a hardware bump and 2.1+ instead of a extra 3 years onto their contract.

Actually, they’re not tacking on another three years if you do the upgrade. Your contract stays the same.

They don’t renew your contract for another 3 years with a hardware upgrage?!?! RIGHT… It’s Rogers were speaking of. Get your facts right.

Ouch… Rogers contracts are 3 years? And I thought 2 years was bad… I’m always ready for my next upgrade after a year…

I loved my Dream but simply hated the battery life and weight. Great keyboard and design though.

It’s no biggie if they start the three year clock again if the phone is only a few months old to begin with. I guess we’ll see…

Now that my dream is upgraded with 16gb micro SD. 3900mah mugen power battery , and mirror finish screen protectors , waterproof cases custom fit to the phone .

The battery alone was 100 dollars.

if rogers wont patch my phone, i know a rom flash that will.

The easy solution is to let everyone get the patch and give the option to roll back to 1.5 if its too system intensive.

    Problem solved.

if i cant install windows 7 on my 10 year old computer , Best buy wont let me exchange it for a brand new desktop. I got a feeling this guys gonna get fired.

There’s a wee bit of a difference between a phone that is just 6 months old and a 10 year old computer. Both the Dream and the Magic were both released by Rogers at the same time for the same price. The were being sold as the exact same phone with the only difference being the keyboard. So when Rogers said the Dream would not be upgraded because it had “limitations” I felt very much like I had been mislead. Rogers has recognized this fact too. Good on them for stepping up and allowing Dream owners to trade in for the Magic. Had the dream been 18 to 24 months old when this occurred then it would be a different story and most of us wouldn’t expect our hardware to run with the most current OS. In this case though, the right thing is being done.
