Verizon's Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus explained

Whisper

One of our connects just broke down why Verizon Wireless’ Palm Pre and Palm Pixi will get the Plus name treatment. It’s not exactly rocket science, but the Palm Pre Plus on Verizon will have 16GB of built-in storage instead of 8GB, and the Palm Pixi, as rumored, will have Wi-Fi. That’s all.

Thanks, VZWGuy!

UPDATE: PhoneArena has the spec sheet

i don’t know if that’s worthy of the “plus” but they are nice additions.

  • VZW

Eh, you were close enough on the name BGR. ;)

    • VZW

Why would anyone even mark that down? I gave him the info. I was just saying he was close enough on it…

  • Mrwirez

Dang… VW is going balls out with new phones.

    • Nathan Trimboli

      about darn time too.

Bummer. Bought my Pre 10 days ago. Would like the extra memory. Love the phone. Maybe can add later.

    • VZW

How will you add it later? And you have 30 days, but its up to you.

    • Who?

      Return that Pre this instant.

  • stee

dang. I was hoping for a beefier processor or something. Eh, at least it’s coming to vzw!

    That’s all?
I hope Stinson message is the same with this news, and we will have better stuff in the “plus” version, even if I doubt that.

Very disappointing news….Palm needs to make a splash again at CES…instead its just the same device as last CES with a new carrier…..what a difference a year makes. They went from the biggest surprise and most anticipated handset in CES 2009 to the biggest disappointment at CES 2010. The Pre is too slow and the keyboard sucks too much to be mainstream. Palm…I am disappointed.

    Not good…

what happend to the ball thing in the front of the pre

  • vzwguy

most of our smartphones now a days are coming with 8gb and 16′s pre installed. was it worth for the plus probably not. But they that’s marketing.

    Posted from BGR Mobile (iPhone).

The day they make a 16gig lavender Pre is the day all other cellular telephones cease to exist in our hearts and minds.

dam! why does verizon think they have to rule the world. stealing phones from other carriers. i dont see how they got 80 million costomers with there high priced plans, there to expensive

No video or sd card slot? My palm centro has both. Heading the wrong way, Palm.

  • http://www.locksoflove.org Copasetic

I have let the SD card thing go. I have had an 8GB in my Centro ever since I got it, and the ONLY time I have ever removed it was when I had to remove and replace it when it wasn’t working for whatever reason, and to do the SD upgrades. The Pre is more connected than the Centro, so I can live without it. No more filesystems, no more copying, no more Spending $ to upgrade the thing, thus: no more hassle! It’s time to move into the 21st century, people. Those cards are annoying and not always cheap. Heading the RIGHT way, Palm. :)
I am also glad they didn’t make the screen larger as some wanted. Two things that have always bugged me are size and volume. My phone is ALWAYS too loud, and too big. I know, most of you are the opposite. :)

VeriZon isn’t stealing anything, ronnie. I do believe that VZW is actually BUYING these phones from Palm, lol. And thanks to democracy, you have the right NOT to choose any company you wish. :)

The Treo never “Advertised” that it would do video, streaming radio, tethering, etc. when it was released early on. The apps didn’t take long to show up (and they do exist for the Pre,
    (see http://gizmodo.com/5411687/palm-pre-gets-video-recording-with-precorder-homebrew-software).

If they list it, Palm has to support it. It’s a safe call to make from a marketing perspective. Even the iP**ne has video apps now.

  • Jeffe

Wow, Verizon is going to let it have wifi? Verizon is communist with piss poor phones and data speed. AT&T shits all over their data speeds and selection of phones. Ha

  • HeadAcheJoe

    @Copasetic,

I’ll agree that I’ve never had to replace the SD Card on my Centro (though, I’m packing 16gig).

BUT, I also carry an 8GB iPod Touch along with it, and it is running out of space.

I do use the video recording sparingly to capture cute moments of my kids as a last resort, mainly because the resolution is so poor. Otherwise, I have to add a camera to the mix.

I’d just like to get down to one device. Otherwise, I’m pretty happy with my Centro. I just want to *upgrade* when I upgrade.

Right now, neither the Pre nor the Pixi offers enough incentive at the pricing for my use case.

At&t sucks. I work for them and had their service. To many dropped calls and roll over mins yea sure y not? At the end of the yr they cancel out so basically u dont even keep em.

  • Jose

I had BOTH a Pre and a Pixi phone under Sprint and returned both. They have hardware/software/quality control issues which are no excuse for company that is so small and so trying to make a splash in the cut-throat cell phone business as Palm. They need to redo them and redo them fast and make them appealing to the “mass consumer” not geeks like me LOL
