    Very nice piece of technology.

as of 2/11/2010, Sprint 4g is very inconsistent and provides constantly dropped connections (like dropped calls) whether you are traveling from one area to another or in stationary location. Also, Sprint will start throttling your “unlimited” 4g connection after you have used about a combined total of 5 gigabytes of data download/upload usage, it is even stated in the new brochures which you can find at a local Sprint Store.

At the expensive $59.99/monthly rate, Sprint is outrages for even considering and implementing a automated service, which is handled by Clear/Sprint’s computer servers based out of Southern California & Kansas City (Clear/Sprint’s respective main headquarters), to dramatically downgrade the quality of your wireless internet connection and reduce raw download speeds.

The reality of the situation is Sprint sells consumers on false expectations. This is one of the reasons why Sprint will keep on bleeding subscribers like a stuck pig because consumers will expect Sprint to live up to their advertised “unlimited 4g” with “speeds up to 10 times faster than 3g” (which is about 10 megabytes per sec.) In return for consumers hard earned money, Sprint provides consumers with less than half the advertised download speeds & downgrades the “unlimited” 4g service to as tolerable as dial-up speeds.

Sprint receives an F for FAILURE on the launch of their 4g services….

If you go by their commercial, sure you can be mislead into thinking you’ll be getting 4G speeds. If you talk to an actual Sprint employee, they are actually very up front and honest that 4G is only available in a few cities right now anyway. This is no different than ATT claiming that they have the nations fastest 3G network, when we all know that’s not true either. Sprint is no better/worse than any other provider as they all overcharge, overpromise and under deliver in some capacity.

Sprint by far offers the best features in terms of minutes/data plans etc. and what you get compared to other carriers that I’ve compared them with.

Although I do agree that $59/mo. for this service is pretty steep and is the reason I won’t invest in this technology. Rather it will be better to get an unlimited data plan, hack your new 4G phone to be a wi-fi hotspot and go that route.

    Two things:
    1) Hot
    2) One of a kind

This is a game changer in the Mobile Broadband space. Who can even come close to this right now? I want one!

    • Steve

Unless you live in Seattle, what’s the point?? May as well get a MiFi LOL.

  • bonesb

I’m hoping that Sprint’s 4G doesn’t suck as much as Clear’s WiMax. I’m about ready to give Clear the heave-ho – in PDX they can’t keep the service anywhere near running or running consistently from day to day – 6M DL in the afternoon, .2M DL in the evenings is getting really f-ing old even after the credits.

    • Eric

Sprints 4G service is the same as Clears. They are in a partnership. Sprint just resell’s 4G under its name.

  • kingfish

    That 4g center is impressive.

  • http://www.gska.com ravibhau

What a let down! No Wimax phone. What did they need Steve Ballmer for? What’s MS got to do with this?

If this was Sprint’s must-attend event, I shudder to think what tomorrow’s Sprint-LG event will produce.

  • StevenGlansburg

This sucks, I’ll wait for Verizon’s 4G which is already 4 times as big as Sprint’s

    • Bugs

      Glansburg, you’re truly a Verizon Homer……….

I’ll support my perception of you by quoting you about T-MO’s deal with the HTC HD2….
“WHAT A WASTE!!!! If companies aren’t going to make a phone for verizon why even make them at all???????”

You truly have no clue and your comments are not even close to the truth…..example: “Verizon’s 4G which is already 4 times as big as Sprint’s”

      What???

Give me 5 markets where VZ has launched LTE.

      • Braiden

        Bugs he’s joking!

You must not post here enough to realize it.

But to your point not too many people are interested in Sprint anymore. A few years ago I knew several people with Sprint. Now I can’t name one person. That’s sad because even if the product is good, it won’t sell.

      • Bugs

If that’s the case that he’s joking around I say that’s bulls**t! I like to read about what’s happening and interested in peoples opinions and feedback. Having to read thru his bulls**t sucks!

      • Laz

This is the same reaction that every Sprint customer has when the envy kicks in with Verizon. So you pay less, OK. You hate the fact that someone else besides you wants to pay more, OK. If you like Sprint be happy with it and don’t talk the next person down who does not agree with you…

      • sajd

Been with Sprint for years, no compelling reason to leave. 4G works, but is not as hot as the hype. I have the Overdrive card and only have two drawbacks – otherwise I love it.
        1) The 4G service in Everett is a little spotty and the switch to 3G or back to 4G is not seamless (takes minutes vs seconds), but if you have a good signal, its nice.
        2) After using it for two weeks, it is not shutting off correctly and I have to remove the battery to make sure that it turned off – It won’t turn back on unless it is all the way off.

    • Steve

That will never happen as Sprint owns ALL of the 3.5Ghz and MMDS licenses. Verizonss got $%#@ as far as WiMax is concerned.

  • http://www.freaknsweet.com Cullen

This thing is awesome!!! To bad my MiFi won’t pull 4G. Kinda cool Steve Ballmer came and gave it props too.

  • Agatha

    Ewww Sprint. Gross!

    • Bugs

      It’s not a phone

    • Bertha

Gag me with a spoon gross! Have you ever been inside a Sprint store? Infested with ghetto wanna be Hip Hop stars.

      • Gina D

        Your too funny Bertha!

This device should be cool. Sprint needs to turn things around to improve their image. I think they’ll leverage their 4G network to do so.

They going to have to compete with LTE and HSPA+ devices so 2010 and 2011 outta be really interesting in our industry!

      • HD

Very similar to a T-Mobile store.

  • Bubba Gump

I live in Louisiana. Sprint doesn’t even give us 3G. You think they’ll give us 4G?

Why do us southerners get the short end of the stick?

    • bill

be glad we let you have the stick, period

  • George

Uhmm, why does Sprint have their own dedicated 4G tab on your site?

  • james bond

lmao@ bubba gump, and bill’s nifty reply. haha

my day starts on a good note! :)

  • Mobile Virgin

If your gonna diss Sprint do it because you have crappy service with them not because of what you heard through the grape vine I recently had sprint for 2yrs and never had a problem service was great customer service was even better and I am only with att now because my job is paying my bill but the difference is like night and day. Sprint treated customers better whereas att makes you feel as if your lucky to have them.

Anywhew that stick comment was funny

  • Timo

I left Att for sprint and the difference isblike night and day!! Att blows…I’m glad I left!

  • Leo

From someone who has used sprint service since 2000 & has been in the cellphone industry for 11yrs, I’ve to say that I’ve been overall happy with both sprint’s voice & data svc. There customer svc has been great to me, I’ve had a few instances where I had some hang-up with their cust svc but overall I have been pleased.
IMHO I think when it comes down to wireless service it based on the individual consumer need, there’s not a one size fits all and it never ceases to amaze me when people post stuff about carriers & they’ve never personally used the services or either has a complete grasp of wireless technology how it works. I guess nowadays everyone & their kinfolk is a subject matter expert, sigh….
Oh by the way, it would be nice if people stuck to the topic without making it racial because that ABSOLUTELY has nothing to do with whether a carrier’s network rocks or blows!! Just my 1 cent, cheers!

  • gspot

@ Joe LMAO you tell em Joe because the truth is whether he (Miguel) ever admits it or not ~~ you are right ~!~!~!~! I f ther is any criticism or compliment, shouldnt it be something that is fact based not emotional (as Miguel must be having his time of the month) ~~ LMAO Hey @ Miguel ~.^ you go “girl”

  • Mobile Virgin

Now that was funny LOL LOL whew! (take a breath) LOL

  • Joe

No Miguel, the fact that YOU can afford it doesn’t make it good value, good value is based more on fact than opinion… and sadly a LOT of people now a days are idiots, and base their decisions on popularity rather than good value. I use a Blackberry and I can afford Verizon too but I choose not to go with them because….
    a. Sprint has pretty much the same voice coverage as Verizon being that they roam off each other for free (in fact the only dropped call I’ve had since I switched to Sprint was while I was roaming on Verizon’s network, figure that out)
    b. Verizon’s network has significantly slower data speeds than Sprint’s
    c. Verizon limits your unlimited calling only to other Verizon customers, unless you give them yet even MORE money and bump up to a 900 minute plan (for single line), then you get to pick 10 numbers (lol)… Sprint allows you to call any wireless carrier, unlimited, all the time
    d. Verizon’s nights start at 9pm, Sprints start at 7…
    e. Sprint includes GPS at no additional charge
    f. Sprint includes TV at no additional charge
    g. Sprint gives you full upgrade eligibility on single plans $69.99 or higher.

Now all that being said… why would I pay MORE to have Verizon? To get the features I get with Sprint I would have to pay about $50 MORE a month with Verizon… and I STILL wouldn’t have unlimited calling to any cell phone, I would STILL have to put up with slow ass data speeds, and I wouldn’t be able to upgrade my phone every year.

Sprint is better value that Verizon, now stop bothering everyone and get back to your tummy sticks with Verizon… hurry they’re charging $1.99 for every minute you make them wait.

    • Joe

EDIT: g.Sprint gives you full upgrade eligibility EVERY 12 MONTHS on single plans $69.99 or higher.

  • miguel alvarez’ daddy

Miguel, i told you to stop playing on the internet! Your 35 and still living at home. Get your butt up and go find a job!! Oh by the way, you forgot to do your chores yesterday…the dog shit is in the back waiting for you to pick it up.

  • tony

the bickering isn’t helping this thread but I thought you guys might want to hear from an actual Sprint 3G/4G Overdrive customer. This is the new device mentioned here which is basically like the Mifi device but with 4G as well. I bought one in Dallas today but something is very wrong with the Sprint network these days or with this device in particular. This thing is super slow. I’m lucky to get 200-300k down when I used to get 1-2meg with my Sprint Mogul using wmwifirouter software under Windows Mobile. Not sure if they have throttled the network, oversold it or if this device has some bad firmware but I will be taking this back pronto.

    • Juice

Wow, your using a Sprint Mogul with an Overdrive? You must really love that thing! Do yourself a favor, get a newer HTC Windows device like a Touch Diamond or a Samsung Intrepid!

  • http://BGR STEVE

I purchased the Overdrive unit last PM. Inside my home, I barely receive 1 signal bar (on 3g)…in my driveway, 1 signal bar on 4G. Using Speedtest.net, the fastest download speed I achieved so far on 4G is .70 and the fastest upload is .50. In my home on 3G, fastest download is .15, upload is .15. This is compared with my AT&T 3G speed of 1.28 download and 1.34 upload.
Don’t think I’ll be keeping this device. I drove downtown with the unit on and in 4G mode and was constantly disconnected. They need to work on this a bit.

  • Leo

You are right miguel, I did get side-tracked! Thanks!!

  • Bugs

Nice………more constructive errrrrrrrr……destructive BS feedback from Migual. Rather than slamming people and topics why don’t you actually provide some insight on your experiences and your take on the industry.

Do you have anything informative to share? Your game is getting old.

  • Joe

It would be nice to not see Miguel trolling every Sprint post… What’s wrong Miguel, sick of being raped month after month by Verizon so you have to take it out on people that have Sprint? Does it sting? Maybe if you ask Verizon nice enough they’ll include a bottle of lube with your bill… wait I take that back, knowing Verizon they would consider that an extra feature and charge $20 per month for that HAHAHAHA!!!

  • Burgundy

Nice to see you posting under a new name there Backbeat…. I see your time away hasn’t changed your demeanor at all….

  • Bugs

I plan to buy one, once they’re available. I’ll let you know.

  • SprintFan

    LOL!!!!!!! +1

  • SprintFan

You should take your own advice you dooche bag. You like calling everyone trolls and you are the one that is alway on the Sprint topics talking crap. You rarely post on any other topics because no one respects you. Your like a kid with no friends that has to try to make fun of everyone and what they like because they wont play with you. You are a loser, TROLL!! I cant wait for you to respond to this with your awesome comebacks…Dumb Ass!

  • SprintFan

Wow, great comeback. It was just what i expected…. a whole lot of NOTHING.

  • Joe

Sooooo…….. you like being raped by Verizon, and you would be ok with them charging you for the lube they use to do it… you made yourself clear. Now stop trolling and get back to your tummy sticks tournament with Verizon.

  • miguel alvarez

Boy i am such a tool. I am really a closet Sprint lover and i just don’t know how to admit it :-( Every time i look at myself in the mirror i just want to punch myself because i am an idiot. I’ve tried to post on other topics but no one responds to me because i am not intelligent. Therefore i come on to Sprint topics and bother everyone. Everyone please forgive me for being an idiot.

  • Joe

I pointed out several things that Sprint has over Verizon you idiot. You “Verizon trolls” have nothing better to do than spout off “We have Verizon, we pay more so it’s better, all my friends have it so it’s better, they have 80,000 customers so they’re better, and uuuuum um um umm (looking for combacks) Verizon’s the best” and you’re dumb enough to be suckered into paying more for pretty much those reasons alone. YOU have nothing to back up your points besides the typical excuses any Verizon fanboy would have. And like an idiot, you probably believe those fake coverage maps they show you. Just like the other 98% of Verizon fanboys you walk around with your nose in the air pretending you’re better than everyone else because you pay more for a shittier service. It doesn’t hurt us “Sprint tolls”, we’re not jealous that we’re saving money and getting more/better service for less, we have nothing to be upset about, people like you just gives us something to laugh at.

  • miguel alvarez’ daddy

Thats no way to speak to your father miguel. I found you as an infant floating down the sewer and i thought i would take you in and try to teach you somehthing. Name calling and being a dumbass gets you no where my bastard son.

  • miguel alvarez’ daddy

Your mom just called…..wait, not even she wants you back.
