Google Nexus One headed to Verizon Wireless and Vodafone in Spring 2010

General

vzw-nexus-one

Google’s Nexus One announcement went smoothly as planned — Nexus One confirmed, Android 2.1 detailed and T-Mobile as the launch partner confirmed. All done, all good, except for the little bombshell that was presented at the end. The Nexus One will be hitting both Verizon Wireless and Vodafone this Spring! All you folks who eschewed the Eris and waited on the DROID will get your just reward in a few months. Any DROID or Eris owners out there just throw their handset through the window in disgust?

hell ya!!!! anyone want to buy the bb tour??

  • waynester

From info gathered it seems the nexus will not be subsidized when google releases a vz version.
Though vz claims “any device” i doubt the will embrace the “dumb pipe” role.
So i’m thinking , nogo on substituting nexus for phone on current family plan. That means a new line, activation fee, voice and data plan.
Crap that would leave me with @1500 unused minutes and double my current bill.

    Anyone paint a rosier picture?

  • AceRimmer

I’m in the same boat (already on a family plan with Verizon). I guess I will have to:

    1) Get a Droid
    2) Wait for the next HTC Android phone

Another option would be to get a Nexus 1 and use it without a data plan. A phone with Wifi and GPS could be nifty even without the data plan.

Wonder if you can use GPS without a data plan, with Google Maps you’d have to be able to reach out through a network since the maps are not loaded on the phone, anyway I think so. But there’s plenty of storage on the new phones, enough room for a map to be stored locally and maybe soon a company will support this since the GPS receivers are they.

HATE TO BREAK IT TO YOU BUT IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE A NEXUS WITHOUT A DATA PLAN.. AS IT IS A REQUIREMENT.. NO DATA NO NEXUS.. EVEN IF YOU BUY THE PHONE FROM SOME ONE ASIDE VZW AND GOOGLE..

  • AceRimmer

Er… Can you download Android apps using Wifi?

  • Mike

So my Verizon NE2 will mean nothing looking at the way they are treating current Tmobile customers who go under a contract to get this and pay so much more for the phone. I’ve waited to use mine again and now this development. Sucks!

  • Badnews

AndroidSPIN reporting Droid will get 2.1 update in the next few days. For some this will prolong the want of Nexus one.

    • Mike

But the Droid is still going to be a large rectangle that is ridiculous looking in any case available with it’s main claim to fame a physical keyboard that is almost ridiculous.

      • Jim Davis

There are people like me who don’t want a phone without a physical keyboard. I LIKE the Droid keyboard although admittedly it isn’t the best mobile keyboard I’ve ever used.

Was waiting for some “Snapdragon” phone (half expecting the “Passion” or whatever in the Spring) but bought 2 Eris phones last month for $49 anyway. Love Android. Will probably find some way to upgarde to this within the year! No regrets, just envy!

Join the petition to sprint that can influence sprint to carry the nexus http://www.PetitionOnline.com/GN1oSPCS/
    Hopefully they’ll get it

  • http://www.louisvillecolorado-realestate.com Andrea

I heard that verizon users will have to pay close to full price for the phone.

  • robert

verizon cust will have to pay full retail for the phone if not eligible for upgrade…..

  • robert

i purchased the eris but im going to use another upgrade on my acct for the new droid and am going to sell my other droid eris online………. lol

  • Jeff

I just spoke to a customer service rep at our local Verizon Wireless corporate store and she said that they’ve been told the Nexus One will be available through them on May 17th!

  • spybob

For (robert & Andrea)those who post about the “full retail only” and (waynester & AceRimmer)”no family plan”..You are going on pure speculation. Thus far, Verizon is not slated to carry the device in store-no stock-, therefore the only option is full retail from google…Verizon will recieve nothing from this. If VZW chooses to PURCHASE the Nexus, VZW will stock it and therefore, VZW will offer it to customers at 2yr, 1yr or Full Retail like any other device.

LOL aint nothing wrong wit da boonies!

  • Galen20K

The BOonies?! YUCK! I”m with LaToya, NEVER stepping anywhere near all those inbred, Hills have Eyes, Crazy, Po’ Cannibals who marry their own cousins. BLEH! No wonder they don’t have cell service, they wouldn’t know WHAT to do with it in the First place!

All they deserve is GPRS anyways. Maybe once they evolve, they can have slow att EDGE.

  • Bonny

The only Verizonites who fall into this category are those in the former Alltel areas.

I use Verizon in a bigger city and so far haven’t fallen into the incestual way of life just yet. ;-) Haha

  • Galen20K

Don’t get me wrong tho, that wasn’t a jab at Verizon, I LOVE Verizon!

I just don’t like the boonies lol

  • hipkik

Sir, what you described is most definitely not the boonies…lol wherever shit like that go own, aint in South Carolina afaik lolol

  • Mrwirez

Latoya and GAYlen are both retarded. Nothing like vacationing at say Hilton Head or Nags Head or Clearwater FL, or maybe Nantucket.. Yeah downtown Manhattan is great for sunbathing. You two are the dumbest thread hi-jackers I read all day. Keep drinking the T-Mobile Kool-aide.

  • Azeron

Wow! Five days in and you are giving up on BOTH resolutions already?! The latter wasn’t realistic anyway.
