Sprint to announce Windows Mobile WiMax phone January 6th?

Rumor

sprint_logo2

There are a series of recent events and announcements that could lead one to believe that Sprint, LG and Microsoft are working together to announce something big. Sprint has been planning a big show for CES on January 6 and calling it the “must-attend” event of the entire exhibit, and announcements will be made by Dan Hesse and Steve Ballmer. There is little need to second guess what is in store for the announcement if Ballmer and Hesse are taking the stage together.

For the following evening, Sprint and LG have been separately sending out invites to the same event, so it’s very likely the two are working together on a new device. This shindig is also going to be hosted by Brooke Shields. Throw in the announcement from the night before, Sprint’s aggressive plans to launch WiMax-enabled devices, and we have the makings of a Windows Mobile WiMax device on Sprint’s network. None of this is written in stone, but what else could it possibly be?

Love how everyone is getting all worked up over a blog article. We will have to wait to see what the big announcement by Hesse will be and then wait a day for the announcement with LG. A WiMax phone is certainly coming, but it will most likely will be android and Samsung. I guess the haters here forget about the roadmap that was released a short while back that stated Sprint will concentrate on Blackberry, Android and WiMax, so calm down a little and take a deep breath.

This is the stupidest article this week on BGR.

Brooke Shields is not going to host a party for a Wimax Windows Phone. Think about it. Don’t be an idiot next time you write an article.

She’s hosting a party for a fashion phone, duh. Probably Lotus 2, as another commenter said, since it’s been leaked recently.

God. It’s like anyone with a damn computer can get a job writing “tech news” these days.

I don’t like Sprint on a business level for many reasons, but for the sake of the industry I hope they can keep things competitive.

Verizon and AT&T need some compettion and so far Sprint has been unable to provide that on any level of scale.

Maybe Sprint and Microsoft have something big that will appease the WinMo faithful who have been left out over the past 3 years?

Sprint has had several opportunities for something blockbuster but they’ve blown it each time by forcing people on plans they don’t want and sub par customer service (yeah it’s improved a lil’ bit). Mix in a terrible reputation and there you go.

Redeem yourself Sprint. Make the bigger telcos try harder and give users better pricing!

That will happen when AT&T and Verizon stop buying every thing in sight. They have the deep pockets and try every trick in the book to get a customer. What a joke, “Make the bigger telcos try harder and give users better pricing!” How is Sprint suppose to do that? AT&T and Verizon have almost 30 to 40 million more customers than Sprint. Put your thinking cap on who has the most spending power?

    • I Said It

Speak for yourself. Sprint just whipped the pants off AT&T and Verizon in my book (my pocket book) and in the end, that’s all that matters to me. So go ahead and whine on blogs while continuing to fork over “limbs” to those huge greedy telcos with their noxious, gaseous, portly rate plans. Meanwhile, many millions of wise Americans enjoy outstanding Sprint service and save cash each month. Ka-ching, ka-ching. If the service fits, wear it, and we wear it well.

I don’t know from what point of view you are evaluating Sprint vs ATT or Verizon. But from where I sit, they are very competitive on the rate plans and have a decent lineup of phones. We will probably start seeing WIMAX phones next year, which should be interesting. The service works fine in most all areas that are important to me, and the customer service is now excellent. Note, I have used Sprint for 7 years and they did have a rough patch in the customer service area a few years back. Sprint has certainly got it’s challenges competing with the big two, first and foremost is scale, and second is a terrible image. I feel that potential customers should give Sprint another look….they are offering a compelling product/price.

Better pricing? What are you talking about? Sprint’s plans are the best value around.

4G by LG has a nice ring to it…

And didn’t HTC make a WiMax phone for Russia a few years ago?

  • DubYa

Nice…two obsolete technologies holding hands and dancing off into oblivion…

  • AB1

LG Elite’s manual is all over the web….no mention of a 4G icon anywhere. Likely a new undisclosed phone? Any phone pass thru the FTC with WiMax recently?

  • AB1

Androidcentral is reporting that it could be the LG Prada3….with maybe android?? Now that is sure to turn a lot of heads!!

I’ll be very interested, I’m still with Sprint and off contract, but I haven’t seen anything worth jumping at, on the market. The ability to watch my slingbox via WiMax would be ultra attractive to me, and yes I live in a WiMax enabled city (Las Vegas).

  • majorhunadadun

    I’m sorry but I don’t like LG phones. If you’re talkin’ HD2 then I’m interested…

  • majorhunadadun

    Screw LG! HD2!
