Apple tablet definitely coming in 7" size?

Whisper

We’re really going out on a limb here, but one of our very connected sources let us know that they’ve heard very solid information about Apple’s upcoming tablet. It has been widely reported recently that the size of the tablet is 10″, but there was also talk about a 7″ model. Our connect said there is 100% a 7″ Apple tablet, to be announced in January, and whether this is in addition to a 10″ model, they don’t know. Would we bet the farm on this? No, but they’ve been amazingly accurate for us in the past and as usual, Apple rumors seem to get more interesting…

7 inch seems like it would be better size. More portable. great for someone who doesn’t want to carry around a man-purse for their tablet.

7 inch is too small for me .

  • bluprntguy

Maybe it’s just me, but I would definitely not buy a 7″ tablet. I sketched it out and compared it to the iPhone, and it’s simply not big enough to warrant an extra device.
I have to believe that apple would provide a 10″ device otherwise, they are spinning their wheels creating a device that we already have in our pockets and not providing a compelling reason to have another one.

7″ is the best if screen resolutions is high enough, say, 1024X600.

Should the arringtonfield of jojoo fans be wary now that apple will be releasing this yet another uber-tablet? Detailed preview: http://bit.ly/joojoo-who-tablet

JooJoo fans should be wary of even buying a JooJoo. From what I’ve read about their shady dealings and basically theft of the concept from Techcrunch, I’ve yet to hear from anyone who has actually touched the device. Rumors are that pre-orders may be never realized orders.

I love seeing a ‘definitely’ followed by a question mark in a story.

Isn’t 7″ already bigger than the original Kindle!

    • MikeInPerson

Yes, you’re right. Kindle offers displays of 2 sizes. A 6-inch and a 9.7-inch. So Apple’s rumored display sizes of 7-inch and 10-inch are slightly larger. In doing just a rough calculation, the 7-inch size will have a viewing area of about 4 times what is on the iPhone and the 10-inch size about 8 times the viewing area of an iPhone. So with the smaller screen you get more portability and with the larger screen more viewing pleasure. I personally think there’s a market for both sizes and more importantly so does Amazon.

  • Eh

    ZachP… You’re right. That headline is blogsphere-tastic.

  • impaler

I’d be interested in this, depending on the connectivity options.

The display size is a bit irrelevant these days. Remember the AT&T network capacity still posing the main bottleneck for iPhone? In this perspective, I wonder what radio it’ll feature? I wish it supports WiMax, among the others.

    • Matt

Sadly WiMax would be too little too late

  • Javapie3

Man, I’ve been waiting for this one for quite awhile. I also believe 7″ is not worth it and too small, but 10″ is definitely what I would get. Looking forward to the next big Apple announcement in Jan.

That’s going to be great. We’ll have a standard device to capture and send what we need, and when we need it. I phones are too small.

  • Jason

Tablet, interesting. Can this be fold down to fit in your pocket? or do I have to carry a man purse around? At least with Iphone you can put it in your pocket and not screaming out loud “please jump me because I am carrying a tablet”

  • GReGEE

stop keeping &pple in the news….it will rot soon…

  • Gary

It’s worth remembering that this device may well not be included in an exclusivity agreement with AT&T.

Verizon has been talking publicly about how they’re preparing their network for the iPhone. It wouldn’t surprise me if this mythical tablet is not tied to one carrier.

Personally I am not a buyer for either the 7 or 10 inch version. I don’t want or need another device between my iPhone and my laptop.

  • http://mein-hansehaus.blogspot.com Bruno

I’m looking forward to that device. However I had them all a 7in OLPC (useless even for my boy), a 8.9in Aspire One – great but a touch too small and the 10in MSI Wind a really great and solid performer. Today I use a 11.6in Aspire 1810T which is the perfect netbook both in size and performance – unfortunately it runs Windows7 rather than MacOS. Remember the 12in iBook white? I loved it.

Apple whatever device you launch, please give us in addition a 11.6 MacBook Air.

On the smartphone side of the business, if Apple does once again report good numbers, it’ll be one of the few in that industry. Despite constant attempts by rival handset makers to produce the “iPhone killer,” Apple’s main competitors in the smartphone world have struggled during the most recent quarter–Nokia, Palm, and Research In Motion each posting disappointing results.

Piper Jaffray is estimating that Apple sold 7.5 million iPhones. Munster said inventory checks showed that demand for the iPhone 3GS is “outstripping supply,” which means that iPhone sales for the next several quarters should be fairly steady. We should also get an update on the number of countries and carriers that have the latest iPhone model. Apple had said in July that it was supposed to be in 80 countries by the end of the summer.

I would definitely be interested in a 7″ screen if it comes with a long battery life.

  • memyselfandi

I think the tablet idea is wrong.
Apple would be much better off if they implemented some kind of add-on tablet size touch screen that connects wirelessly to your iphone.

When sitting in the garden or on the train etc you use the bigger screen with the iphone sitting in your pocket and when you are walking around you have the big screen in your backpack and just use the iphones.

    Now that would be a much better tech than having 2 devices , 2 simcards , 2 CPU’s etc…

  • Cris

7 inch is better than all… Steals less battery and softy pounds

  • Sky

I want one to put in my truck.. I’ll be able to listen to music, watch movies, and use for navigation, surf the web and it should be able to sync up Mobile Me so I’ll be able to check mail…600 buck would be far cheaper than buying a new radio with the same features.. And still keep my XM radio and steering wheel controls…

    • John

And that will last about two weeks before your truck is broken into…

  • me

I only interested if it is 7 inches.

I want to keep me with me at all times, in my jacket pocket, so 7 inches is the ideal size.

I think 3 times the iPhone screen size is good enough as long as I won’t need anything extra than my clothes, to take it.

Apple, please let it be 7 inches!!!!!

The best reason for Apple making a 7″ version of the tablet is for the automobile industry… a direct competitor to Ford Sync, and a savior for GM and the rest

  • billtech

I SURE HOPE (rumored iTablet) will NOT be a 10.1 or 12″ screen!
I don’t know about the rest of the world; but I want a POCKET size (maximum of a 6″ screen) computer like an iphone, but more powerful than an iphone, large enough, but not too large to HOLD IN ONE HAND, and fit in a large pocket, no DVD needed.
we DON’T need another clumsy awkward to use laptop!!!!
We need something BETWEEN a tiny little phone, and the huge difference in size that a laptop (even the netbooks!) is!
Lap top? it is not easy to use: we have to be SITTING DOWN to have a lap. :)
How about standing up in line at the grocery store, and wanting to check online, email, grocery list??
Can YOU sit down then? :)

  • Sardar Ali

THAT WILL BE GR8 (but Max 6″ Display) will be very handy, if like iPad/iPhone, with USB2, 3G, Conf.Calls, strong Wireless connectivity and a Web Cam for video calls, preferably having Windows7 option.

I would LOVE to have a POCKET size (maximum of a 6″ screen) computer like an iPhone, but more powerful than an iPhone, large enough, but not too large to HOLD IN ONE HAND, and fit in a large pocket.
We need something BETWEEN a tiny little phone, and the huge difference in size that a laptop. YOU’LL SEE IT WILL TOP the Market… having all options and handy to use as a cell phone.
