Verizon Wireless prepares for iPhone? Probably not

Rumor

It doesn’t look like the Verizon/iPhone rumors are and possibilities are ever going to end. While many of you Big Red subscribers would love to have the iPhone on your network, we’re not sure it looks like things are getting closer to materializing. When AT&T picked up the iPhone, some could say it wasn’t prepared for the massive spike in data usage and as a consequence, has been taking a lot of heat for that. With rumors flying that AT&T is losing its exclusivity deal with Apple soon, Verizon Wireless Chief Technology Officer Anthony Melone told BusinessWeek, “We have put things in place already. We are prepared to support that traffic.”

Of course, everyone knows that the iPhone only comes in one flavor: UMTS. Most analysts think a CDMA iPhone isn’t very practical given where Verizon’s technology is going, and we’d have to agree a straight CDMA only iPhone wouldn’t make sense. Does this mean the build out of LTE is getting done more rapidly? Or more specifically, will there be a LTE iPhone? Only time will tell with Apple, but for customers of the largest U.S. carrier, it’s reassuring to know that your network is ready for the iPhone. But we already knew that.

Verizon’s own CEO publically stated that Verizon *IS* readying their network for the iphone.

But BGR know more … and claims that Verizon is NOT.

    Huh?

never said that,ATT has exclusive rights thru 2011

No, AT&T’s contract with apple ends in February of 2010.

Lets write up a story about speculation! woo-hoo! Is Zach Epstein still writing for BGR or something….lame

I see no reason on earth why the iPhone will not be on Verizon’s network next year or whenever the AT&T/Apple contract expires. It’s a win/win for both Apple and Verizon. Verizon has the network and so many eagerly awaiting customers. All they have to do is throw a CDMA radio chip into the iPhone and voila! What’s so hard about that?

The reality is very different from your hopes and dreams. Just because AT&T has a shitty network that doesn’t mean Apple will just move on with different carriers. No. No. No. Why? Because iphone is still selling a lot.
As long as verizon isn’t willing to give what Apple wants in the table, iphone will not come to Verizon. I would say it will not come to VZ until 2012.

Honestly, I don’t think there are any US carriers out there that can handle iphone without any problems. Iphone is a data hog.

Do you really think Apple wants to do business with a Company that just blasted them. Not directly, but the Droid blast does call out i-phone.

What do you think T-Mobile is getting ready with 21Mbs HSDPA? And Dutche Telecomm already carrys it.

It does not make sense for Apple to release an LTE iPhone in 2010 as the front runnig carriers are still testing the technology. Even when the actual deployment begins it will only be for data cards. Large scale phone support will not happed until late 2011. Look for an LTE iPhone in 2011.

But what is stopping Apple to release a CDMA iPhone in 2010. A piece of Verizon’s huge customer base is a big incentive. And most of all didn’t they already release a CDMA iPhone in South Korea. I do not have the specs but the two carriers, KT and SK Telecom, that are carrying the iPhone run CDMA.
