Three new smartphones to hit Verizon Wireless in early 2010?

Rumor

motorola-calgary-small

Verizon Wireless may be turning it up a notch again and adding not one, but three new smartphones to its lineup in early 2010. The eclectic group is rumored to include the Windows Mobile-powered LG VS750, the Android-based Motorola Devour A555 and the Palm Pre Plus. The LG VS750 is LG’s first smartphone offering for Verizon Wireless. Running Windows Mobile 6.5 and with both CDMA and GSM on board for global roaming, it is sure to please all those business-oriented, world travelers in our midst. The Motorola A555 Devour is also known as our old friend the Motorola Calgary, which we broke the news on almost one year ago today. The Devour will be the DROID’s little brother and is expected to arrive in early 2010 with Android 2.1, MOTOBLUR and a 3 megapixel camera. Last but not least, the Palm Pre Plus will be Verizon’s first webOS device and is most likely the reason for Verizon’s new online training course touting the benefits of Palm and webOS. The significance of the addition of “Plus” to its name is unknown — was it chosen by the marketing department as a way to distinguish the Verizon Pre from the Sprint Pre? Or will this handset indeed be a never-seen-before, much improved Palm Pre?

I hope hope hope that the passion comes out soon. I never expected to stay on AT&T for even 1 second after my contract expired (Thanksgiving), but I need the better hardware (hardware being why I left Verizon 2 years ago).

PLEASE release the passion and let me come back home …

The term ‘Steven Glansberg’ arised from the popular teen film ‘Superbad’. In the film, he is refered to when Evan is about to leave Seth eating lunch alone and Seth says that he will now look like Steven Glansberg and there is a shot of him eating pudding all by himself.

So now if you see someone around eating lunch alone (works best in schools/colleges) be sure to say, “Hey Glansberg” or simply mutter to your friend, “Ha look at Steven Glansberg over there”
Jamie takes a seat in the cafeteria
Rich: “Na dont sit here, we’ll look like fuckin Steven Glansberg”

So i’ve been following all the passion hype since it started and i was immediately interested. after the past few months, i need and have to have it. Now with the NExus One news and this blurb about new VW smart phones excluding the passion, i’m totally deflated.

Is the bravo/passion.dragon not real? it’s my holy effin grail man.

ugh… i hope it comes in january or you’ll find me with a verizon HERO. I can only wait so long.

    This is laughable!

Compared to the early mockups of the Calgary, this thing looks pathetic. They’ve gone from something that looked super sharp to something that just looks cheap. I hope this isn’t what they’re actually planning to launch.

Wow three phones. N not even 1 iphonekiller. iPhone will still outsell these phones put together in USA. Just like it outsold thr droid. Pathetic. Verizon. Clearly desperate.

    • Azeron

There is no such thing as an iphone killer.

    • Christopher

funny thing .. AT&T could have a phone that sprays pixie dust …and it would still run on AT&T… Got an App for That?

  • Stephanie

What is that??? Whoever is in charge of design @ Moto needs to be fired because that thing is hideous. Come own now! I upgrade in April 2010 so Verizon better put something out that I will like!

I worked for VZW and let me tell you that they are the cheapest operation going. This is why they are so insanely profitable – they have a killer network and a bitchin’ marketing arm, but the devices have always, and will always suck. They scoffed at the chance to carry the iPhone and then tried to foist the Voyager against it, they then woke up and realized that the iPhone was for real and dumped $90M into a failed marketing campaign for a device (Storm I) that was shipped to distribution without the final firmware flashed…that release was calamitous. The Samsung Saga was a horrendous joke, the Tour is a fart in a whirlwind, the Treos were the worst ever made, and the list goes on and on.

The Moto Droid is fairly sleek, but is not the answer to the iPhone. Ditch the keyboard, load Good Mobile on it (yes, they are back – watch them hit the iPhone enterprise space HARD in ’10), get more apps, and they might have a chance. Otherwise, watch for the “Applephone”,

  • Cheryl

I like the keyboard of the Devour, looks way better than the Droid’s keyboard. I hate touch screen keyboards personally. I wish they’d make it look better though, shiny casing instead of the flat black…

You’re all crazy with your iphone statements about the iphone. granted the iphone may have tons more apps. but the market for the android apps is growing exponentially. Be on the lookout for new smartphones as verizon is coming out with 40 new smartphones over this next year. and also what people don’t realize is that the devour carries the motoblur software which is by far THE best social tool out there. prepare to be amazed for all you verizon haters out there..

  • vince

motorola should make a phone mixing the droid and devour by basically making the droid about same but have the keypad of the devour and a trackpad instead of the d-pad and the slider like the devour. have the features of the droid(camera, screen size, exterior buttons)
