rogers-boxing-day

If you’re Canadian and love the thrill of the hunt Boxing Day provides, hate waiting in long lineups on a frosty winter’s eve, are looking for a new smartphone, and aren’t too sure what to make of this WIND Mobile business, then Rogers kinda/sorta has a deal for you. From now until January 18th, the following smartphones are avaiable from $0 to $0.99: BlackBerry Bold 9000 (white), BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220, HTC Magic, LG Eve and Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. Of course, with such a price there is always a catch and in this particular instance it’s a decision not to be made lightly — a 3-year contract

You can go to some Rogers stores and get these phones for free anyway on a 3 yr deal lol

  • Wow

not to mention with all these phones you have to sign up for a data plan which it think the cheapest is $15-20 a month for like 150 mb.

    Wow. Pass..

Please fellow Canadians… DON’T DO IT!!!

Even if your phone is an old piece of junk, have patience! this is just the beginning now that WIND is here. Don’t count out the other new entrants either.

Meh, Wind is here but aside from their better terms and conditions, their plans aren’t super.

With all of the magical fees, I’m paying $70/month to Rogers for 200 daytime, evenings at 5pm, VM, CID, Conf, CW, texts, and 500 MB of data.

I can’t see where I’d save much going over to Wind other than being able to talk more than I do now, which isn’t really a pressing concern. Plus, none of those phones is compelling.

I was really hoping for a cheap data option, even a pay as you go data plan at Rogers overage rate (3c/MB) would be great. $35 for unlimited is a good deal, but it’s not actually unlimited and I pay that much for my genuinely unlimited home data plan from Acanac.

If they introduce the N900, I could be convinced, but this isn’t earth shattering just yet. Especially with all the roaming you’d have to do. Right now, Rogers 3G data coverage allows me to make cheap VOIP calls anywhere in the country. With WIND, I’d be roaming on data so it would be Edge and expensive.

Hopefully Rogers starts adjusting its ridiculous extra fees to compete.

      Wow Dara,
We are living practically the same exact lives, LOL.

I have the almost the exact same plan as you and it comes out to $64.xx/month, but I don’t have the evenings at 5pm, which I think accounts for the difference. And I use Acanac too lol.

      Just thought I’d share that.

If only Rogers could get rid of the SAF, then I’d be much happier with my plan.

Until they offer the N900 I won’t be changing anytime soon. My N95 8GB is far superior to anything else they carry (yes even better then BGR’s precious iphone) so really nothing to get excited about here at all.

Canada has 3 year mobile phone plans??? Yikes!

  • mjschmidt

Beware! Rogers Android phones won’t be updated to 1.6 or above! We are stuck on 1.5.

don’t fall for 3yr trap..sign up for wind mobile if you’re in calgary or toronto.

    • Travis

if you fall for this you can’t enjoy 3 Christmas(s)..

  • Justin

Rogers Android phones can be updated, you’ll just have to root it first.

Oh, how I love to see Rogers squeal in pain…$0.99 phones, wow they are desperate!

But s’all good, the point of WIND’s entry was to bring more competition and more competition is upon us. :)
