BlackBerry Curve 8530 now available from Sprint

Retail

Sprint has just added a new device to its BlackBerry family — the Curve 8530. Though this is on the low-end for BlackBerry devices, that doesn’t mean it skimps out on any features. The BlackBerry 8530 for Sprint comes with Wi-Fi, 256MB of on-board memory, support for 32GB of expandable memory and a host of social networking applications already built in. Best of all, for those of you who want a smartphone but are on a budget, the Curve 8530 is only $49.99 after two-year contract and MIR. If you’re wondering where you can grab yours, it’s available through every Sprint sales channel: telesales, online, their business channel and of course, Sprint’s retail stores.

UPDATE: Well, maybe not retail stores just yet.

Wow…. To think I bought a Tour and this comes around. Would have been happier replacing my prior Curve with this one. Maybe they’ll get the Tour working properly one day.

Sorry you didn’t win the Heisman. Nice screen name and attempt at some humor. Loser!

  • Soddy

    Sprint FTW!

In some of the earlier promo stuff, wasn’t Sprint showing a purplish pink version? Where’s that one? My wife want’s that to replace her 8330 and the black version just won’t do.

    • Mike

Yes. Royal Purple and Red early in 2010

      • http://www.bsharitt.com Brandon Sharitt

Good, the phone was going to wait until her birthday early next year anyway.

  • Jimmy

I know people who work for sprint and was told today the the Tour2 9650 will be released in January. They have it already in there inventory systems, also trainings. I have sprint and i just this one today and i also have the tour!

  • J

Retail stores can direct ship them to customers.

  • Tim

    Meh whatever

  • Jason

Why does sprint make you buy the data package for this phone? What good is the WIFI feature if you have to pay for the internet anyway? I was looking forward to this phone to get my internet free at work with the WIFI, I don’t want to pay for a data package. Please explain what the advantages are to this phone.

    • darkprince

Then pay full price. Carriers don’t subsidize phones so that you don’t pay them for the services that essentially pay the real price of the phone. Nobody flies for free bro.

    • Carmen

Yeah dude, they’ll sell it to you, just not for the advertised price. Data is like an extra 30 bucks in their pocket each month. They’ll make back the subsidy a lot quicker.

    • Bogey

Getting the data package also gets you Any Mobile, Anytime! That’s the best part of the data package. Navigation and all the other stuff is gravy on top of the best priced plan on the market.

  • Chris

    @Jason:

A few good reasons is because if you didnt have a data plan and wanted to use it on wifi you would only be bale to use BBM when youre connected via WIFI and same goes with emails… and most definately Sprint Navigation…

I went to a Sprint store today and the people there looked like they were tired of being asked about this phone. My wife is craving the purplish color and the sooner I can get it for her, the sooner I can stop hearing about her ask when it’ll be available.

  • Carlos

This phone is only running EVDO rev 0 unlike the LG enV Touch on VZW which is Rev A!!! That means its faster!

    • darkprince

And c comes after b. wgaf?

    • Carmen

…and one is a smartphone and the other is not. That’s like comparing apples to oranges!

    • Bogey

Carmen is point on! Two differant phones Carlos. One is a toy that’s cool to touch and mess with. The other is an email machine with an app world. How many apps does the Env have?

    Nice price!

  • jynx

I have to say that I really hate that upgrading customers don’t get the same price as new customers…that’s not fair at all.

    • Carmen

Sprint allllways does that. Kinda unfair if you ask me. I feel that if someone is out of contract and wants to stick with a carrier, the carrier should thank them by incentivising them a little bit.

      • Carmen

Actually, on a second look, that’s only with third-party retailers. My bad.

      • De Gosh

well at&t gives ther renewing contracts the same deal as new ones but there service is so so for more money per month sprint is the best deal and they have the same phones as every one else minus the iphone. now if only they would invest in more towers outside the citys.

  • Xcano24X

    JYNX,
What are you talking about that upgrading customers dont get the same price as New Customers? They absolutely do get the same price. Where do you get your info from. Upgrading or New its $150 before the MIR.

  • Carmen

The original curve is everywhere now, and I expect these bad boys to show up everywhere in 2010. A lot of times these cheap blackberrys end up being cheaper out of the gate than many feature phones. Especially at places like BestBuy.

  • Bogey

Nice addition for Sprint @ a good price. Track pad instead of ball. Anyone have any feedback on the two compared to each other in terms of functionality?

  • Debi

Does anyone know when the purple one is going to be available?

  • kenny powers

@jason wtf is the point of buying a smartphone w/o a data plan to allow you to use its full potential. the wifi just makes sure you have good data when you have a bad data signal, ex work or home. airrave fixes voice not data. you should just go buy a ferrari and do the speed limit too, it will go perfect with your bb and no data plan. also bbm and bis do not work over wifi

  • dubsf

just got my 8530 yesterday, the screen is trash compared to the tour

  • victoria

The phone looks & feels great, but has some deficiencies (i.e., no flash, poor battery life, poor screen resolution). The upside? The trackpad is a great touch and WiFi is long overdue. This is a decent entry level phone, but there are much better BlackBerrys out there for a few dollars more

  • Wayne

Does any1 know when or if sprint will get the tour 2? i just read Vz is getting it early 2010. The tour 2 will have a trackpad and WiFi

  • Seth

Me and my wife both got one, hers in purple, mine in black and we absolutely love them. No complaints. We are new to blackberry and was sceptical but are very impressed and are now blackberry loyal customers. Two thumbs up.
