I’m just hoping they start to allow custom ringtones for messages. I know I can jailbreak, but I don’t really want to. C’mon Apple, BlackBerry lets you do it, let’s step it up a notch.

    • Aldarion

Please letm us use our bluetooth, to with all devices. And make it easier to use.

    • Glenn_Va

My guess is that those nice features that others have had (including jailbreakers or other phones) will be out with the new iphone and OS. Apple has to keep the cash cow going at our expense. Look at what they did from 2g-3g-3gs. Do you think they would change their strategy now? I’m not banking on it.

      • http://tewha.net Steven Fisher

Glenn, at this point, history suggests most of the features WILL be available on the latest OS with earlier phones. There’s only one feature Apple hasn’t ported to more recent phones for a reason we don’t know, but the others have straightforward and hardware-based explanations.

    • Ryan

honestly, it’s really not that big of a deal. quit bitching.

    • Gary

You can do a custom ringtone through audiko.net. Sends it right to iTunes.

      • Peter

You can do custom ringtones in a variety of ways, but *none* of them can be applied to receiving messages. For received messages you only get the built in choices, and your choice is universal to all received messages, you can’t assign a custom ringtone to a received message from a specific contact. Which most other phones *do* allow you to do. I’m hanging out for this capability too.

I’ll be out soon probably fix bugs

  • because I said so

I keep seeing “jailbreak” and people talking about how much better it makes the iPhone, but shouldn’t these features be a part of the OS, not a hack that voids the warranty of your pricey precious?

    • Cracka Jack

You are right. When fanboys use jailbreak as a defense, you’re forgetting that the mass majority of iPhone users won’t attempt to do this out of fear of damaging their “precious” and also voiding the warranty.

If Apple would loosen their tight-ass OS, they may still have a chance to make a ton of cash, AGAIN!! Can you imagine if there was a theme store along side the already booming app store? It would just be insane and there have been some amazing themes you can get when you jailbreak the phone.

Now…if only we could get all that and a 2000 mAh battery, I’d be sold on iPhone.

      • D9

You say all this as if it’s an obvious certainty but all the while Apple is rolling in hundreds of millions of dollars on sales from the phones to accessories to the apps.

I’m not about to say Apple is perfect, but comments like these that portray Apple as some business buffoon out of touch with the public popularity really have no base in reality…not against numbers like Apple has made.

      • Austinkir

His comment seemed pretty spot-on to me. Don’t even get me started with the crap apple pulled with the Google Voice app, either. What really has no base in reality are comments that make Apple out to be a great, sincere, nice, and fair company.

      • Billbobaggins

Apple is in it for one thing and one thing only, The $.
They don’t care about the customer or anything else.
They are of course no different from any other corporation, they want to make $ and lots of it.

    • edgar

after you jailbreak you can do a very simple restore on itunes and will delete all evidence of jailbreaking and wont void the warranty.

  • http://www.handbagspool.com Women’s Handbags

If Apple would loosen their tight-ass OS, they may still have a chance to make a ton of cash, AGAIN!! Can you imagine if there was a theme store along side the already booming app store?

    • Brad

I think that would be a nice bonus, especially since the gray/blue color scheme on my iPod Touch is giving me the blues, but quite honestly, eye candy will only go so far. Consumer knowledge of smartphones is maturing, and Apple is going to need to deliver in the feature department soon to maintain customer loyalty.

  • Rob

The tight ass hold on the iPhone hasn’t stopped people buying, nor developers developing has it…? 10 million units this quarter and no sign of stopping there… next cycle brings major hardware revision and OS revision… Android has about 8 versions now with googs choofing out their own… Android does not have the ‘retail’ ideology that Apple iPhone has, and it will take a looong time before that ideology reaches both end-user and developer market places… by then things will have moved on considerably… the pre–hype never ever got started… neither will this for some time to come…

    • Austinkir

Yeah, Apple does have a definite retail edge on the Android based phones. But I think Android based phones will slowly rise to the top, versus (IMHO) the iphone fad which shot up to the top. Don’t get me wrong, the ipone is so much more then just a fad (they are great in there own right), but much of the hype (and the reason SO MANY people want/get one) is due to the ‘fad factor’.

      • Billbobaggins

And with the Android market place having almost 20,000 apps already, the trend shows that Android will not only catch up but surpass iphone apps as early as 2011.
Remember Apple basically has one phone and Android has many and soon will have many many more on every network in the world. Apple needs to have their phone available on all networks not just a few.

  • PROXEL

    “fix” for the jailbreak iPhones?

  • iPhone4

Let’s not forget that Apple has released a new iPhone once a year in july. The 4th iPhone is coming soon. What to expect? I would have to say, better processor, 5mp camera with flash(minimal), hd video capture, better battery, available on every carrier. On top of a beautiful OS that doesn’t look nasty and ghetto rigged like android. Now don’t get me wrong, the SENSE UI with Android looks terrific but HTC has yet to make a great phone that wins me over. I’m sick of ATTs dropped calls and crap network performance and range. The only other phone worth buying would be an HTC with SENSE and ANDROID. However, The HERO, MY TOUCH AND DROID ERIS are too slow and run old android software. If the DROID ERIS had the specs of the DROID I would of bought it.

    • Bob

First of all do you really think that apple is going to include all of those things on the new iphone, available on every carrier? then they would have to make a CDMA iphone.. and realistically it wont happen for all carriers. Flash for the camera? that is also unlikely. But then you say the Droid runs old android software? the droid runs the newest version of android available.

      • former android user

the android based phones run the latest version of the software that the CARRIER can provide.

  • MarcoB

I think I did it right. I resisted the temptation on the first iPhone (2 and 3G) and bought the 3GS. It is an incredible piece of hardware and software. It never failed me, never dropped a call. Notice that I live in Brazil. I will install the up coming updates and patiently wait for the next great iPhone models arrive with more performance, features, memory and sexy design.

  • DaHarder

If these OS updates fail to increase the iPhone’s archaic display resolution (320 x 480 – LOL!), improve its sound quality/reception, rid us of that long-in-the-tooth Romper Room-inspired boring gris of icons they call a GUI, and the like, then none of this matters one iota to me.

Apple – How About An Actual Hardware Re-Make e.g better/higher resolution screen, matte-finished surface instead of all that cheap smudge/scratch prone plastic, and the like?

    It’s Long Overdue…

    • indy

Wow, lets see what else we can just make up.. the iPhone has never had a plastic screen. No new developer software out as of 19:00 12/15/09

      • DaHarder

        Oh Indy…

Please, for all of our sakes, learn how to comprehend what has been posted before responding.

The “matte-finished surface instead of all that cheap smudge/scratch prone plastic” statement was in reference to the iPhone’s plastic outer-shell, NOT the screen.

  • Shawn

On a lighter note, I just wish that instead of being able to use our phones on different networks (GSM,EGSM, EDGE,CDMA,etc), they would just get together and work out a killer wimax for the entire country and then we could all just use the wifi on all our phones for everything except calling (wait a minute VOIP, sorry I forgot) and there wouldn’t be an issue. I mean 4G sounds good to me. And if thats the case no one would care about the the “Big 4″ just because you would be able to use VOIP if your signal wasnt up to par. But I am sure that they will never let that occor especially in my life time!!! “Hmm make it so the customer could acctually buy any phone they want without having to worry about networks. Boy that would be nice, hmmmm…well I can dream can’t I….
    Have a great holiday all….!!!!!

    • WedTM

Yeah, cause companies HATE making money… Grow up and come into the real world.

    • ECC

      cant we all get along?
IT would only make sense…yet again, do any of these company use ANY common sense?

  • Crunch

It would definitely piss me off if I had anything other than the great coverage we have here in L.A. Let’s hope that AT&T will do the right thing with its network. It would likely mean for another year or two of exclusivity for AT&T if they seriously respond to the apparently bad coverage that a lot of people suffer through. (you know that you can always get out of the contract! Just make the argument…)

  • Zapote21

Maybe by 4.0 they might let you change wallpapers? LOL

    • Alex

because in the grand scheme of things it’s so important for you to have your Hello Kitty wallpaper, right? Isn’t it time to end the fascination with ringtones and wallpapers….nothing more annoying to listen to horrible custom ringtones blaring in public….

  • preuser

Yeah themes would be nice.. then again we cant all own palm pres now can we?

  • Luke

I’ve given up on Apple. I have dutifully bought and unlocked all the iterations of the iPhone, since i refuse to bow down to Satan’s network. I promised once something worth my time came out, I’d leave my iPhone in the old phone bin in my closet. I plonked down the cash for the Nexus One. Should be in my greedy hands in a few hours!

  • Ray

The iPhone’s capabilities DESTROY the Droid’s. The Droid comes with all the abilities open, whenthe iPhone can be Jailbroken, and maximize the memory, and the things it can do. If a iPhone had more memory, I’d replace my computer with it. Really, iPhone has more customization, if your willing to go and Jailbreak it.

    • Jayson Knocks!

how do u figure? droid= better processor, higher res screen, google maps w/ turn by turn. iphone= a nice app store and pretty hardware

      • Lol@u

Jayson, the iphone has maps with turn by turn. There is a compass built in, hello???

  • frank

for christ sake give us a new awesome home screen like that one called ELEMENT being made by cydia as we speak! the homescreen sux big hairy nuts after 4 long yrs it is time for a change i hope we get streaming of facebook and social networks like that sprint ph9one that have out where the homescreen is linked to multiple social networks and the time the weather etc etc come on apple make us proud for 2010 ohh how about a bigger screen to and higher res and a 5 mp cam we seen u place a big order for im glad there are many phones now competing with apple cause it makes apple stay on there toes atleast i hope!

  • Yawn…

Apple is not in any way trying to consume the entire market, obviously. You’d think they would have given up the PC market for holding less than 10% of market share this entire time… they just want to create a great product that everyday people/consumers can easily adopt into their lives. The reason why people buy iPhones is not because it’s a fad or because they want to be cool–it’s because they hear about how easy it is to use, how relevant it is to their life and how accessible it is. That doesn’t make it a bad phone. Personally I would never buy a phone for its processor speed or expandable memory. I buy a phone because it does what I need it to do, feels and looks great, and is in my price range. And although AT&T’s service is not perfect everywhere, it’s great in my area. It should be something that anyone considers when purchasing a phone. Would you buy a convertible if it is always raining in your city? Why talk down to someone who owns one who may have different weather conditions than you?

    • Pete borota

What people don’t understand it’s not the phone that is important. Apple have created an ecosystem that has major pillars to the way people live their lives. First the IPOD then a phone with the IPOD facility, then improving of itunes then an app market that allows people to live their lives through their device. It’s a cocktail of inovation that goes through the phone. It’s not the phone persay!!

17 januar coming firmware 4.0 apple kaufen firmware for iphone 99US$:) soryy:(/Users/ilazhoxha/Downloads/270px-Dollarnote_hq.jpg

  • Pete borota

How about that simple feature of group texting. For a company that’s approaching it’s 4 major iteration of it’s OS it seems pretty slow in recognising the hundreds of thousands of people who have said “where the f*ck is the group text facility”.

I don’t want much in OS 4 but some of it’s basic functionality, contacts and messaging are being left behind by most OS’s in the market. It’s not as though they are little used features.

Given the leaps and bounds of Android showing the way to customise the user op experience Apple’s look and feel (os wise) is being left behind.

  • Matt

I’m not really sure we will see 4.0 just yet, we might but i really think they might be holding this out for when the support for 4G networks is there. I also don’t think they will name the new phone iPhone 4G simply because the iPhone 3G was named not based on its generation but it’s network support after all the iPhone 3G is really the iPhone 2G. But hey i could be wrong, and we will just have to wait till march and June to know for sure.

  • mike

well the 3.1.3 is now available not sure what it does but i just updated it now..well actually as i speak its updating!!

  • KARMA
