Oh hai, Google Phone: Nexus 1

Breaking

google-phone

Here’s what we know: we’ve been told the Google Nexus 1 (yes, the Google phone Arrington nailed) will be sold by Google online directly. But that’s also the “first retail channel” and it will be sold by a carrier/s. Apparently the Wall Street Journal is running a story tomorrow saying what we just told you. And heck, we don’t charge subscription fees…

UPDATE: So, we’re hearing Best Buy should sell this as well when it launches.

It’s apparently true and coming soon as there is a nexusone.com currently displaying a blank page.

Nexusone.com now seems to redirect to http://www.supra.com.ph/ in the Philippines. What’s with that??

So would it be safe to assume that when released the Google Phone will bring to T-Mobile all the functionality and coolness that the Droid brought to VZW? (Sans the physical keyboard, of course…) I mean, Google wouldn’t allow itself to be outdone by Moto, would it? More photos to come: http://bit.ly/nexus-one-google-phone-photo

It was only a matter of time before Google sold the android phones directly.

NBC and Fox are already trying to make sense of it… http://geniusphones.blogspot.com/2009/12/fox-nbc-on-google-phone-nexus.html

Google is going to fail with this launch. Nokia proved US consumers don’t want to buy unlocked phones. We are trained to buy phones directly from the carrier with subsidized pricing.

Google may be the king at getting people to adopt new FREE software, but getting people to shell out a lot of money on a phone that has no “wow! I’ll kill for that!” features will be almost impossible.

Apparently the phone will cost $199 outright and be offered with FREE DATA with T-Mobile and other carriers around the world. Money will be made through advertising revenue from the AdMob acquisition and new Android features. More info at http://tinyurl.com/ydvuolq

This phone looks to be very exciting and interesting! It is going to be very interesting to see how Google flips the whole wireless industry on its side. There is already a forum setup to discuss all the goodness that is this phone… http:///www.nexususers.com

Wow, it will fail because people are used to getting their phones through their carriers. In Europe everything runs on sims. I want a new phone, I buy one, pop in my sim and I’m done. Do I buy my laptop or desktop through my internet provider. The whole notion of linking carrier with device seriously needs to be thought about.

Plus, Google does nothing for the short term. These guys are changing the playing field down the road, not today. They are saying, ‘look, we sell a device, directly, that is as good as the iPhone, doesn’t require any contracts, and keeps all of your information in the cloud so if you drop it in a lake, you just get another and you’re off and running.

Google is smarter than you :-)

Microsoft/Danger/T-Mobile also thought they were smarter than us with their cloud computing on the Sidekick.

Ask Sidekick owners what happened and if they like cloud computing or not.

This phone is the bomb. The android OS is killer. It’s going to be on par with iPhone very soon. Developing apps for Android is just so much easier for non experts over developing on iPhone. Check out some videos here http://thenexusgooglephone.com/ and other Android and Nexus Phone info.
