Motorola CLIQ receives an OTA update

Motorola CLIQ owners have long had a list of complaints about their device, but Motorola is hoping that an OTA update released yesterday will fix the majority of users’ woes. The update doesn’t do anything to change the fact the device runs on Android 1.5, but it does bump up the system version to 1.1.31. What does that mean for the average Joe and Jane? Improved battery life and touchscreen sensitivity, better Bluetooth all around, accelerometer refinements and more. Go ahead and give it a while and let us know what you think, okay?

Now an update for my Moto Droid would be nice. Only 9 more days left fbecfore the first one. Can’t wait

    • Dio

I really like my Droid but recently my messaging app (the built in one) has been wanting to Force Close a bit, as long as I click wait it comes back to life. Hopefully the update fixes this issue.
      No other complaints though.

Same here. I’ve been experimenting with some SMS apps but none really catch my fancy.

Have you both tried going to Menu/Settings/Applications/Messaging and clearing the data? This may or may not help ease your woes…

phenomenal idea on making blur sleep during the night ….saves a lot of battery!!

  • hipkik

is the “while” in the last sentence supposed to be “whirl”? just nit-picking lol

  • Matt Thompson

There’s nothing about the CLIQ that appeals to me.

Where’s the review? you only had a preview. it’s not too late!

    @Dio
Try removing suspect apps and do a phone restart. I have zero software issues here.

  • MIKE

Better battery life? i’d hope so. it couldn’t get much worse…. oh well traded in mine 3 days after i bought it.

  • Black Friday

Or you could just buy the Nokia N900! =0)

    • http://www.end-happy.com Stab Man

You could, but then you’d have to do without a phone for weeks or months :(

      • Black Friday

It took me 3 days to get mine from Nokia. $560 minus the $50 rebate. Three day shipping $3.99. Order it directly from Nokia, no telling when Amazon or New Egg will ship it to you and you only save $10 by buying through Amazon.

I ordered it from dell for $442 back on Nov. 5th and it still hasn’t shipped :’(

    @Dio:

I have the same issue with my messaging app and it only started like 3 days ago. It happens sporatically and never makes more force close, but it frustrating nonetheless.

    • thescarletnecklace

Most random force closes are caused by lack of space for that specific app’s data…try going to Menu/Settings/Applications/Messaging and clearing the data

    uh ohh its almost here

Holidays 2009 is already here… and why can’t we get a GSM phone with similar specs?

      • boats n h0s

I want a gsm one too, this phone is probably going to be amazing. HTC will most likely make a gsm one for Rogers, Bell, Telus, or something of that sort. Then I can unlock it and use it on AT&T

  • Ali

If you’re waiting on a GSM android that is compatible with AT&T’s 3G network, look north to Canada. Both Telus and Rogers have north american comptabile 3G devices : HTC Magic and HTC Hero .
If you want the GSM droid, it exists and its called Motorola milestone, it will work with AT&T / t-mobile but not its 3G radio will not work with north-american 3g networks [ so edge for you ]

  • Hector

To all who are having problems with messaging on DROID make sure you dont have a task killer or advanced task killer because all of those are bugged and causes the phone to start messing up and also drains battery because everytime u want to restart the program u end task on its going to take longer and use up battery :D

  • Maulik

will tell my friend he jst bought 5days ago

  • http://twitter.com/nevaehkisses sidekickaddict

    i Still want this phone

  • ziv

got the cliq around Dec 4 – updated to patch before really using the phone. has ~2days battery life…VERY fun phone so far

  • ben

Horrible so far. I have had this phone since the middle of november and tmobile has already sent me my second phone. I had the sidekick 2008 before, which is probably the worst phone I’ve had overal, and I am actually beginning to miss it. My internet is HORRIBLE…I live in phoenix, come on, its like in the top 5 largest cities. And tmobile is pumping that they just tied for the JD POWER award for best service in the west! Ha! My phone constantly force closes…one support lady at tmobile said it might be happening because I didn’t have enough memory, usualy happens around 30mb left, I HAD 150mb LEFT!…maybe a bad app…so I deleted them all…same problem…so they sent a new phone…now I haven’t downloaded ANY apps since I got the phone 2 days ago and this one may be worse than the first. I’ve had more force closes than ever, the internet on my old sidekick smokes this “smart phone”…and even with the updates, the touch screen is rubbish, constantly gliching and the battery is trash! I’m so pissed at the phone, makes me want to switch back to an early 2000 nokia!

I’ll wait until it’s officially rooted before i ever touch one. I am in love with my G1, haha. The constant development for rooted phones is astounding! I can’t see how you could even use one that’s not rooted :P

  • http://California Ebabe

I am in love with this phone! So many features and you can sync all your emails and social sites to this phone (all updates and email notifications appear on your screen. Many apps to choose from, I think it is even better than the Iphone cuz you can use the keyboard or touch screen. Tmobile and Motorola scored with this phone!

  • kilbasakid

nokia n900 doesn’t have mms capabilities yet but maybe in the near future

  • kilbasakid

@chaz—as far as not rooting my g1, cuz some rooted g1′s crash

  • BJ

YEP THIS PHONE IS SURE A PEICE OF GARBAGE! All the update did was make it slower, I’m constantly force closing my apps let alone waiting forever for the net to work! My lighting goes from dim to really bright off and on and the phone will not let me disconnect the call. I hav to wait for my alt. Party to hang up! VERY ANNOYING! Ill never trust these new phones ever again, I’m good with my MDA even if its cracked up! What should we do with thes phones though that cost us out our ass and T-Mobile wants to replace it with a damn furby phone! If I wanted used I would of went to the Goodwill!
