Nokia sues top LCD makers over alleged price fixing

In the future, the cost of your next smartphone might decrease by a few pennies thanks to a new lawsuit brought on by Nokia against some of the world’s largest LCD manufactures. Filed simultaneously in both the United States and the England on November 25th, Nokia is alleging that AU Optronics, Hitachi, LG, Philips, Samsung, Seiko Epson, Sharp, Toshiba and others willingly conspired to “artificially inflated the price of liquid crystal displays ultimately incorporated into LCD products purchased by Nokia, causing Nokia to pay higher prices.” Earlier this year, AT&T started a similar lawsuit after LG, Chunghwa Picture Tubes and Sharp pled guilty to price fixing which eventually caused Hitatchi to come clean. Of course with Nokia’s financial situation being what it is, any savings brought on by a successful lawsuit could just as easily — and most likely — be contributed towards the companies profit margins. So far Nokia has yet to go on the record regarding the remedies it is seeking, but we imagine the information will become clear soon enough.Read

Nokia lost a lot of market share to Apple and Rim. Now it is blasting out lawsuit everywhere to make up for it.

    1. Apple for not licensing the radio patent
    2. Now supplier for price fixing

    tsk tsk tsk.

i agree with tom thy cant produce a device so thy try to cover up their losses by suing comapnies.

    Deja Vu?

Three leading flat-screen producers — LG Display of South Korea, Sharp of Japan and Chunghwa Picture Tubes of Taiwan — pleaded guilty and agreed to pay a total of $585 million in criminal fines for their role in fixing the price of liquid-crystal display panels.

What is it with you people. This story has nothing to do with a paticular phone model. Why go on sniping at other about who’s phone has the biggest daddy etc. WE DON’T CARE. The iphone is not the mythical “GOD” phone, neither is Droid,Each has their pros and cons. Try and keep on point about the topic at hand.

If Nokia does win, then replacement LCDs and new smartphones may be a bit cheaper for the consumer. Maybe the saving will let you buy and extra app.
