Inside a WIND Mobile retail store

Retail

wind-store

While WIND Mobile might never launch thanks to parent company Globalive’s illegal ownership structure, that didn’t stop its CEO Ken Campbell and his entourage from celebrating the completed renovation of one of its retail stores. It’s a departure from the typical Bell, Rogers or TELUS location to say the least. BG thinks it looks like a “New York subway car in white lacquer” and Andrew said it’s nothing but an “Apple store with mahogany”, so naturally we’re curious to know what you think. So hit the jump, check out the pics and give us your thoughts!

P.S. Anyone noticing the huge table cut-out where the Microsoft Surface might one day be installed?

      That’s what she said.

Are the going to serve champagne to customers? Because that’d be awesome.

  • tRICKster

    That’s a store?
Looks like a wannabe conference room.

  • Dorian

    Wow, that is really ugly.

    • footieball

Are we all forgetting that there is yet to be products displayed and signage put up, this will change the look of the place considerablly. This is a modern, clean, and simple design which is just fine for what they are selling. TNSF it’s not a bad thing that its perceived as cheap cuz that’s what we consumers need. We’ve been hosed for far too long and its embarrassing that Canadians pay the most for cellular service in the whole world!!!

reminds me of an IKEA showroom…in a good way

Its too small, poorly designed and looks more like a hair salon than a retail outlet. And its ugly.

  • Cnote221

It looks like a kitchen, minus the sink and stove LOL Seriously though… It looks like Emril or Wolf Gang Puck would feel right at home.

    • Sam

I was thinking exactly that! +1

  • mangenius

Not liking it. Love the idea of the surface though. Maybe they can sell those since they might not be selling phones

  • betchplz

They look like they want to hit some nerves with Canadian customers with the little thoughts they have on the door.

Hopefully TELUS doesn’t sue for that..

    • TNSF

Most of the quotes are pretty harmless. However any one of Bell/Rogers/Telus could sue for the quote “we’ve all had enough from the Big Three robbing us all.” That is libel/vilification.

This is about the sixth time I’ve seen these same pics from their facebook fan page, and everytime I look I get excited.

I’m glad to see that blogs are keeping interest in what will hopefully be our newest and best carrier!

anyone know what city this is in? toronto?

  • Roger A

WOW… What a great wine bar!

    Thats all Im saying…

It looks like a wine bar married a tiny little Apple store and birthed an Ikea-To-Go store.

  • Tdot34

    fu fu fu fu FUGLY!

  • mangenius

Its got a late 70′s early 80′s look to it with the wood and orange whatever the hell it is.

  • NotFail

There’s one under construction in Jackson Square in Hamilton.

  • DJ Megatron

When I first saw it, it made me think of a room in the Death Star, or a room on the Rebel ship that Leia was in.

  • because I said so

The ceiling kills it… The rest isn’t bad. I love the tone of the wood, and the strong graphic of one main table linked into a band of wood, but…. hire a designer, kids.

  • PCuz

This looks like a complete rip off of the Orange stores in the UK :-)

  • Tcrown

W.T.F. is it with people these days

Its a phone store, you go in get a phone, a plan and leave. Who really cares what it looks like as long as the plans are priced right. I’d rather them skimp on the store front and deliver on the plan savings.

    • TNSF

Certainly there are people who will agree with you and conversely there are people who will place great importance on physical store. People will derive a perception of the company from the physical manifestation of the company as a storefront.

A critical success factor for any of the new entrants will be establishing themselves as viable alternatives to the incumbents. The new entrants must convince people they are sound, reliable and able to deliver a quality service and experience. They don’t need as many stores or super flashy stores, but what they do come to market with has to be well executed.

The small, crowded and unprofessional design in the above pictures (including the ugly suspended ceiling!) may not leave a good impression with people who don’t know anything else about the company.

Globalive wants to be perceived as affordable and competitive, not cheap. Cheap is bad.

  • tom

how is this that much different from the new style bell and telus stores? other than the wood tables and the wall deco.

  • Gideon

Well if the store is sexy people will pay way more for the product, think Apple. That’s the thought behind having a hot store. but I like it when the company puts the money into saving for the customer not glitz and glamor that usually pollutes more and creates more garbage. I’m not a fan of this stores design but I like the small space as it’s much less wasteful.

  • Richard Rogers

For cheeper phone charges they can do it from a barn for all I care. I’m on board as soon as they start.
