Colorware 8900

Alright, all you BlackBerry-modding freaks, grab your screwdrivers and listen up. Our pals over at Colorware have just informed us that you no longer have to send them your beloved BlackBerry Curve 8900 for inking. Oh no. Now they’ll send you the rainbow colored parts and let you do the dirty work. This service, which is already available for the Bold 9000, comes with a price tag of $175. It might seem like a lot, but hey, you can’t put a price tag on steez. Colorware’s website hasn’t been completely updated for the new service, but you can always hit them up now to see what shade of fuchsia looks best on your 89-hundo. Happy modding.

    $175.00?

You have got to be kidding me.

The Colorware concept of personalizing your devices to a color scheme that suits you best is great, but $175.00?

You can go to TrueSupplier.com and piece together a housing of your color choice and it’s going to cost no more than $70.00 tops.

Of course, you have to wait a week or so for the parts to arrive from overseas, however I have bought several housings from TrueSupplier and have only had 1 complaint with their product quality, and that was just because the blue front “blackberry”/speaker/lcd cover didn’t COMPLETELY match the blue of the battery cover.

An average person wouldn’t have noticed it because it was only a slight difference, but after sending them pictures they sent a replacement piece for it which matched up perfectly.

Quality wise, TrueSuppliers parts are OEM quality and I haven’t had any issues with screws stripping, paint flaking, warping, blah blah blah. The only thing that concerns me is that since it’s coming from overseas, the lead content is probably more toxic than the radiation that’s being emitted from my BlackBerry.

Colorware, GFY with that kind of pricing.

    Seriously?
I bet you print out every post on BGR that you write “Droid Sucks” or “Apple Rocks” in the comments and post them in a scrapbook for yourself thinking that you’re cool.

Thats a bit steep for a do it yourself job! I completely blacked mine out with replacement parts I ordered on ebay and it came with the tools and instructions of how to take it apart and put it together again too. Think I did it all for less than 30 bucks. They have all types of colors available too.

I heard this on the Jim Rome Show. He had his done and was not paid by them and said it was cool. I got my curve done and its nice!

Or did you simply not read the entire post, saw a colored blackberry and decided to comment.

Who is stupid enough to pay $175 to change the color of a $200 phone?

  • Hate everything GRR!

@name… you do get that these are NOT cheap molded, non-OEM parts, but the original parts coated in a proffesional high-quality finish right? I mean, you actually went to the colorware website to try to compare what the diffence is, right?
Its like the difference between buying chrome rims at Tire Rack VS sending your original rims in for chroming or powder coating.
Colorware only used to let you send in your own device, which they’d strip down and paint, then send back to you w/ a limited warranty.
Colorware is pricey and you offer a viable alternative, but Colorware’s high prices are absolutely understandable as what they do is completely different than what truesupplier offers.
I don’t even have a blacberry or anything from Colorware and even I know the differece here.

cant believe it took you so long to post this, its been around a while now.
