AT&T denied injunction against Verizon; launches its own attack ads

Breaking

island-of-misfits

Earlier today in Atlanta, Judge Timothy Batten, Sr. ruled against AT&T in its hunt for an injunction against Verizon’s “There’s A Map for That” ad campaign. While AT&T argued that the maps in the commercial were grossly misleading, Judge Batten felt that although”sneaky”, the fact that the ads could be “misunderstand” by the layperson doesn’t mean that they were “misleading.” The case isn’t completely closed, however, as AT&T has been granted a hearing on December 16th in which it’s lawyers will argue for the judgement to be repealed. In the meantime, AT&T has launched a rather feisty ad campaign of its own called “The Truth About 3G”. The ad campaign kicked off tonight with a TV spot starring Luke Wilson who espouses the advantages offered by AT&T: speed, the best smartphone selection, simultaneous voice and data and the over 100,000 applications. We have the first ad waiting for you after the jump, but first we have to ask — does anyone have any non-flaming thoughts on this matter?

Thanks to everyone that sent this in!

    You really put me in my place. I should have guessed I was debating with someone who is so knowledgable about the industry that they’d be a shoe in if a CEO position should open up. You have my vote buddy.

    Lowell McAdam and Randall Stephenson be warned.

    @insomnia.

    AT&T’s aren’t relying on their “EDGE” network to carry them over while they are lining their pockets. That’s one of the most ignorant statements I have heard. AT&T is working to make the entire network 850 mhz spectrum while also making the 3g network 7.2 mbps. All while lining the cell sites with more t1 servers then you can shake a stick at because of the 300% increase in network usage. The 7.2 mbps speeds are already active in at least 2 markets. So you apprarently have not worked for AT&T recently.

    Also, it wasn’t AT&T’s network that crashed during the iPhone 3G launch. It was iTunes, dumbass.

    Funny how AT&T beat Verizon the past 2 quarters not only on gaining more customers, but also churn (customer retention). Yep…AT&T’s network must be really bad for that to happen, right?

  • jb

    edit: AT&T’s not relying on edge

    “…I can easily compare it to Sprints new Claim to have 4G. When you listen to the AD (right at the very end) they say ‘4G coverage may not be available in all areas’. Yeah, try just about NOWHERE. …”

    HAHA! Yeah, exactly. EXACTLY!

    jb- ” Funny how AT&T beat Verizon the past 2 quarters not only on gaining more customers, but also churn (customer retention).”

    VZW has higher ARPU with more subscribers.

    iPhone users were just waiting for the The Google/VZW partnership along with the launch of the Android phones to churn.

    “Yep…AT&T’s network must be really bad for that to happen, right?”

    Wrong the iPhone is just that good.

    Droid is close enough…

    @Insomni…

    ur an idiot for saying that indirect doesn’t know what they r doing…from what i hear all day every day from every single customer we get is that u guys can’t even sell a phone…UR ORDER TAKERS not sales reps…n be happy with that title…u can’t even demonstrate a single feature of any other phone outside of the iphone…so for u to say that indirect doesn’t know what they r doing, keep at it bud, and keep sending me ur customers while u live in ur dreamland of screwing ppl out of their hard earned money.

  • http://genius PIMPIN

    @wkInsomnia

    u prove my point. ur still an idiot…n quit denying it…woohoo u wanna talk bout benefits u retard, go bak to work n take orders for iphones…

    And a new ads arises this time APPLE is helping AT&T on its quest to beat Verizon.

    This bout is getting uglier every minute. With apple joining the royal-bout, One should realize that the 2 companies (AT&T apple) are already feeling the need to unite for Verizon is eating them piece by piece.

    Anyway, the ads of Apple today is a bit better compare to the nauseating commercial of Luke Wilson.

    AT&T needs help!: http://bit.ly/att-is-calling-their-big-daddy-apple-for-help

    @jb Thank you for being the only person on this entire site to actually post facts!!!

    @Insomni Nothing you wrote was true!!!

    @The Prawn What you wrote isnt true either.. ATT DID in fact beat out Verizon for the past two quarters in a row with new subscriptions ( not just iphone users) with lowest churn (ppl leaving) and has TWICE as many smartphone users then Verizon (that doesnt include just the iphone either)

    Also about the ads, Verizon came directly at ATT with this recent “there’s a map for that” ads. These ads ARE misleading, they convey a message to some viewers that ATT does not have ANY coverage in the white spots on the map, which just isnt true… ATT has there EDGE 2.5 network all over the country, which has speeds comparable to Verizons “3G” network… And if we are going to compare 3g networks, then it should be done right, which is what the ATT ads are doing..ATTs 3g network covers of 75% of the countries population! So yes there may be white spots, but those ppl have edge ( the whole 25% of them ) and again EDGE speeds are comparable with EVDO (verizons 3g)…. So I am not saying one network is better than the other.. I am just saying if your going to post things (either as a blogger or a major telecommunications company (Verizon), you should at least be fair to the consumers and post accurate information.

    • Mike

      Where is AT&T’s 3G map? You have no idea what you are talking about!! Why would they not have a map? Edge is a joke btw.

  • obee1

    “AT&T Crippled the iPhones capability while it was on their Network because they knew that all that MMS’ing would ‘BOG DOWN’ their already crap Network.”

    Just FYI, if you’re arguing that Verizon is a better carrier, you may want to steer clear from talking about past transgressions of carriers crippling phones. Verizon has been the king of that. Up until extremely recently, they had the best coverage, but you had to pay an extra $10/month for VZW nav (or whatever it’s called) just to enable the GPS in a GPS enabled phone…and the same for Wi-Fi until very recently. Not a high-horse a Verizon fan should try to stand on.

    Not arguing with the majority of your post, but that statement is kinda ridiculous when you’re talking up Verizon.

  • jb

    @thePRAWN

    ARPU has nothing to do with customer retention. Throw out another useless fact, please.

    And as far as iPhone users waiting for the droid to come out.BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!! I played with my cousin’s droid for 5 minutes and wanted to shoot myself in the head. You may be able to do 8 apps at a time…yeah while you drain your battery in an hour (I could care less about running multiple apps at the same time). And what’s the point in putting a 16 gb memory card in your phone if all the apps save on the phone’s memory anyways (which is only 256mb) FAIL!!!!

    • Daedalus

      Why don’t you save your iPhone fanboy manlove for a blog that enjoys it? I’d suggest Gizmodo. They seem to love to suck the cock of Apple.

    • jb is a fag

      HAHAHAHAH Icantphone sucks major asssss it drains so so so fasttttttttt

  • belemon

    You all should just agree to disagree since all US Carriers are years behind in mobile technology.

    Please take a trip to Japan or for better comparison (GSM, CDMA) just look at China/Taiwan. This Verizon vs AT&T bs is like watching your 103 year old grand parents racing down the block.

    @wkInsomnia

    still assuming things like an idiot…i give up…only morons will say stuff about smoking weed…ive passed my fair share of drug tests n have turned down cor store jobs n thats after smokin weed u dumbass.. i bet u dont know the diff the difference between BIS n BES….

  • Cbarksdale

    All I have to say is if AT&T loses the iphone they are done. That is the only reason they even have customers in the first place. Everyone went over there because of the iphone.

  • UofLFan502

    actually i work for an inderect (verizon) and we get alot of phones before corporate, kinda like a soft release to test the market for the phones. why is everyone so angry?
