Looks like AT&T is adding a few new handsets to its lineup for the holiday buying season as today, Ma’ Bell announced it will be carrying the BlackBerry 8520 and the new LG Shine II, all now added to its “best in the world smartphone lineup.” The Shine II is a 3G slider phone with a 2.2″ screen, stereo Bluetooth, Java 2.0, and a November 22nd release date. The Shine Part Deux will also set you back $119 with a 2-year commitment. Switching gears, the more familiar BlackBerry 8520 will boast the now-standard specs of: WiFi, a 320×240 display, 512 MHz processor, 256 MB of memory, and a 2 megapixel camera capable of video recording. The exact release date of the updated Curve was not specified but rather listed as within “the next few weeks.” Any takers?

Wow, these phones are just so…. unexciting…..

I don’t get these Blackberry phones. They all look the same to me….

I wouldn’t take either if they were giving them away.

    Give me Droid!

That’s because they are the same. Sure there is a few new things here and there, but nothing to get wood over. Reminds me of Palm 3 years ago. Nothing but rehashes of the same phone over and over again. Hey AT&T, how about an Android phone, now that is something to get excited over.

    No 3G on this blackberry?

    • rctennis3811

Nope. The Curve II on all GSM networks worldwide lacks 3G. Guess RIM really wants people wanting a 3G BlackBerry to just move to the 9700??

      Blame RIM.

Screw you Felix. Putting “First” is so lame.

Why is it this RIM Blackberry device has EDGE only…..but yet this silly flashy slider has 3.6mbps HSDPA…lol? WTF RIM??

Bold 2 is where it’s at! This Curve is not needed at all in there line up. It’s a downgrade from the 8900 anyway.

You’re an idiot… for the record AT&T and Verizon are priced EXACTLY the same! Same minutes, same price, same N&W! The only difference is Rollover with AT&T and Friends and Family with Verizon. You’re a douche! Stopping trolling fuck face!

Att has friends and family… it called a-list.

Apple fan boys, they make fun of competing phones and services in unrelated posts. COOL TRICK!

I was wondering when there would be a new low-end BlackBerry on AT

Poor At&T subscribers, they pay all that money and still cant get an Android like everyone else.

Since these writers at BGR always want to throw in their .02$ (sly comments) pertaining to their prefrence of carriers I’ll go ahead and throw mine in. The area I live and travel to Verizon sucks fucking donkey nuts, nuff said.

I’m using the 8520 right now and its a fantastic device. People tend to forget that most consumers do not care about things like HSPA. And with BB’s excellent compression it is hardly needed. I also have an iPhone 3GS and the Blackberry loads pages faster over Fido EDGE, period, using both the native browser and Opera Mini. (Especially OM)

Advantages to edge berry: Very fast page loads compared to other edge phones, excellent streaming, and far better battery life compared to 3G enabled versions.

The 8520 will sell well, as evidenced by the fact it constantly sells out at local 3rd party dealers up here. If you want to tether a lot I’d say go for the 9700, but for on-device BB goodness the 8520 is a huge step up from the 8300 series.

I liked how the first shine looked but the directional pad on this one doesnt look too attractive

Ive been through them all with ATT..a few WinMo devices (Tilt and Fuze), Palm, iPhone, and Blackberry is by far the best devices out there…if you have the right OS everything is so smooth..ive been through the 8310, unlocked Storm, 8900 and Bold..nothing can touch them ( in ATTs lineup) cannot speak for the Droid, never used one, but I personally will not own anything except a Blackberry..

  • eric

first off blackberry does suck i have one for4 years and will continue to have one because for business there is nothing better and rim must have realized because they are so slow on getting things done. its os is a slight tweak on the old and it took 3 years for a new one, and all this has is threaded sms. ATTs service sucks so bad in new york i cannot make a phone call for the life of the phone. one day rimm will wake up and realize all they can do is play catch up. they will never be a leader anymore. and please stop releasing 14 handsets a quarter. everyone gets excited for one coming up by the time its available people are already waiting for a new one. go get someone from apple to help you rimm.
