TELUS confirmed to carry the Storm2

Recently, TELUS issued a press release letting Canadians know that their handsets are now being offered through Black’s, the nation-wide digital camera chain. This news in itself didn’t interest us in the least, but for giggles we clicked on through to Black’s website just to see what handsets it was going to be offering considering the odd partnership. What did we see in the line up? None other than a TELUS branded BlackBerry Storm2. Unfortunately what you see above is all we have for now as this sucker has not yet been announced by TELUS, but we have a feeling that will change very, very soon.

Thanks, Tony!

Um, Telus owns Black’s – not such a strange marriage.

TELUS will be releasing the Storm2 (9550 CDMA model) very soon. It’s already on many ads in stores.

I don’t get this Storm2 hype… I’ve used it for a week after having a Storm 1 for almost a year. With both devices running 5.0 they are almost identical. The only differences is the WiFi which is no deal breaker, and the sure press screen which is much better but not worth an upgrade.

RIM is on a one-year upgrade cycle for almost all of its devices, and most people are on 2/3yr contracts. I expect then that RIM is not trying to sell devices like the Storm2 to current Storm owners, they’re trying to make a better product to lure in new people while upgrading the performance of current owners to keep them from jumping ship.
The Storm “3″ will be the go-to for current Storm owners, either because feature wise it will be a leap forward, or support wise RIM will axe products with <256MB RAM from OS6.0 or whatever they launch in that time frame.
This is the same argument for Apple, where most 3G owners wouldn't bother with the 3GS, but any gen1 owners who were coming off contract / getting their NE2 rebates would be looking to upgrade. I predict 4th gen iPhone will be enough of a kick in the pants to make current 3G owners (and some 3GS owners) upgrade next summer as well.

Most people never upgraded their Storm 1 firmware so it’s still crap. I’ve upgrade mine to 5.0 and it’s like a brand new phone. The Storm 2 should be better with more RAM and wifi. For myself, I’ll skip this upgrade and keep enjoying my Storm 1.

I’ve had Odin now for a week, and I love it. To be fare, I never had the S1, but Odin as a first BlackBerry for me has left a really good impression.

Does this mean the Storm2 will be heading to Bell too? I’ve been waiting since the first Storm for this to come out.

If it was up before, it is now long gone!
Do you have an archive screen capture?
