Rogers launches the LG Eve at $49.99

Rogers Wireless was the first carrier to bring Android smartphones to Canada with the HTC Dream and Magic — two devices that weren’t exactly cutting edge — and now it’s trying to generate some excitement with the Eve, LG’s first Android offering. Pre-loaded with the Social Networks Manager app, an aggregate for Facebook, Twitter and Bebo, the Eve is being positioned as the “ultimate smartphone for social media enthusiasts”. There isn’t anything extraordinary going on spec wise, but the Eve should get the job done for most with a 3″ touchscreen display, sliding QWERTY keypad, 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS and 7.2Mbps HSPA. All of this can be yours for $49.99 on contract or $399.99 without. You know, unless you want to wait until Thursday to see just how much the TELUS’s HTC Hero is going to set you back.Read

Who will survive the Price War?

Not bad for $400 no contract! And it’ll work on AT&T’s 3G band, so I might have to sell my 3GS and get this.

Question…what is the best gsm, android device that would go 3g on att? Thanks all

      The Telus Hero!

Looks good, specs are ok, but come on it has a resistive touch screen according to gsm arena, that ruins a phone to use a crappy screen like that. So all in all its just a cheap ass phone.

Come on Rogers, release a good Android device.
Rogers so far is positioning Android as a bargain option for young adults and teens.

So its like a Motorola Cliq, only with the correct pricing.

Resistive touchscreen. No thanks. I guess having the qwerty makes it a bit more acceptable as you can use the keyboard. But the Magic still kicks butt over this. Rogers site says 150Mb RAM??? WTF?!?! The 288Mb is barely enough. This phone may look ok, but its really a beginners Android. Not made for someone who what’s to root and use different Roms. The social networking stuff should grab some people. I bet a lot of people get this phone without Data. What good is an Android phone without Data? (Might as well get a LG Xenon or Neon).
The HTC MAGIC is the best ANDROID Rogers has so far!

Look it’s useless to buy the phone when Rogers don’t offer firmware updates. As a Rogers customer, i’ve been waiting for over a month since Android Donut has been released over amonth. T-Mobile customers already got theirs. When are we getting ours?

just root your phone using the xda guide
google search ; root rogers xda
use the one click root option link in the noobs guide to rooting (LINKED in the first paragraph) and then follow the guide from step 8 or 9 right after the first update.zip
