Rogers now selling the BlackBerry Bold 9700 online

Canadians with a ravenous appetite for all things BlackBerry should take note that Rogers Wireless has begun selling the BlackBerry Bold 9700 on its website. Available for $299.99 on a 3-year with voice and data, the Bold 9700 is also being offered for $599.99 with no strings attached. As for when HSPA newcomers Bell and TELUS will be offering up the 9700, the latest word is that both carriers will offer the device the day they launch their new networks. For Bell, that’s the 4th of November with TELUS following the very next day.

    Why is no term 599? while monthly is 549? What is the difference?

    no term means you don’t set up a rogers account at all, so they get NO money. Monthly means you’re liable for at least one month’s worth of service.

    Monthly is Month-to-month which is basically the same as no term.

    Sorry – I did not see the lower price so I too would agree – what is the difference other than the subscriber would be an existing customer.

    WOW! even witha 3yr contract its $300 dollars thats crazy. I hope the US carriers don’t start making these crazy extended contracts and still charge a high price for the phone.

    I just spoke to a Rogers rep (nothing special, just called up Sales) and they confirmed that the official launch date for Rogers is tomorrow, November 4th.

    BTW, if I want to pick up a no term phone, can I use this with any carrier or is it locked to rogers.. and does it operate with SIM cards?

    I want to pick one up to use in Norway but I need to make sure that I can put my SIM card in it and whether or not its carrier locked.

      norwegian dude yes this is a GSM BOLD 9700 SIM card required. You can buy it and unlock it to use anywhere in the world. I’m picking up mine tomorrow morning i can’t wait. The best blackberr ever. I C

    This is crap, RIM is a freakin Canadian company and look at the price even on a contract! Its way more expensive to purchase this phone in Canada….Thank God for eBay, and unlocking technology!

    God dammit I left my Bold at home today! Out of all days I had to leave it at home, it had to be on a historic day like today when the Bold 2.0 drops in the t-dot. Damn! I so missed that excitement of seeing a new entry on the bgr blog (via viigo) and wondering….could it be?…is it?…It can’t be…omfg!!! It is!! The New Bold is here!! I’m so excited, and I just can’t hide it. I’m about to loose control and I think I like it. hahaha. Now, let’s hope some wonderful fellow posts one contract-free on craigslist. :D great post. :)

    Yup, interesting how the price for the 9700 without a contract is $599.00 and for the 9000 it is listed as $649.99.

    I also got a chuckle when I was checking out the Rogers Wireless web-page and noticed that they have the 9700 listed as the Blackberry® Curve™ 9700 – and not the bold, screenshot on my blog…

    I called Rogers customer service and asked for a hardware upgrade to the 9700…to my suprise they said yes. BUT, Rogers was out of stock. They told me it would work out better if I just went to a store and picked one up. Everything was as stated, price and plan. It only took phone calls to 20 different stores accross the lower mainland to find 1 with it in stock!!! Jeebus!! AT LAST… :)

      You’d have to get it unlocked. Rogers does not provide unlock codes and under no circumstances will they give that to you. In fact, the Rogers databases have been dry of unlock codes for the 9700 and I’m sure they’ll be updated in the next month or so. However, we have discovered other ways to get these codes.

      Also, since it supports HSPA and 3G, you should be able to use it on Telus and Bell’s HSPA networks :)
