Who’s ready for some statistics? This September ChangeWave Research conducted a poll of smartphone users in an attempt to gauge the market share impact (if any) of new and announced devices from Apple, Palm, and RIM. We’ve combed over the article and picked out some juicy tidbits for your reading pleasure. According to ChangeWave, 39% of people polled currently own a smartphone. Of that sample, 77% own either an Apple, Palm, or RIM branded device (I know, we’re curious about the other 23% as well). RIM polled the largest portion of U.S. market share with 40% followed by Apple at 30% and Palm with a measly 7%. Apple did top the customer satisfaction poll as 74% of iPhone users described themselves as “very satisfied” with their purchase; compare that with RIM at 48% and Palm at 33%. The iPhone also ranked first in future purchases plans of those polled who did not currently own a smartphone, but plan to purchase one in the next 90 days. Also 36% indicated a preference towards the iPhone, 27% towards the BlackBerry, and 8% towards Palm. Any BGR peeps out there with plans to upgrade to a smartphone in the near future? What are you leaning towards? D-D-D-DROID?

“The statistics are meaningless…They just polled Apple fans…outside Apple stores…It’s just consumer purchases…Apple is just maintaining status quo/is already dead…Over last 18 months market share of 3 leaders hasn’t grown…on and on and on”

I read so much hate, vile, and nonsense in the comment sections of so many iphone-related articles and decide to go get some “facts” on how well the iphone really is doing. And I end up here. It is both funny and sad how the comment section for an article clearly showing how phenomenal the iphone is doing is still full of haters, even when the truth is staring them right in the face. The statistics aren’t perfect, but at least are something. So go poll 4,255 people over the phone on your own if you don’t believe this data. Like ChangeWave did. Could it simply be that ChangeWave is an investment company needing to know where to best put money, were trying to avoid the hype (that most people simply settle for), have some money and decided to carry out their own research? They would naturally waste their own time and money carrying out a worthless, biased survey. Although not perfect, no survey ever is.

Far from what some haters want to hear, the iphone is not only not dead, but blowing everything out of the water. Rather than staying about the same (RIM), or dying (Palm and most of the rest), the iphone is soaring from 4% to 30% in just two years with no end in sight. And for the argument about how RIM’s marketshare of the corporate side isn’t reported, neither is Apple’s share of the corporate side reported. It probably is showing the same trend of starting out near zero and is going up, up, up, up. There is a reason the iphone is all everybody talks about…it’s awesome! Go have fun with your other phone choice. Nobody cares. But at least if you’re going to attack something, for god’s sake try to have substance. There are just too many people out there who are a discredit to the human race. Go away already.

iphone is not for enterprise use. it is a consumer phone and thats all apple is there for. people who they can control and hide everything bad about them. they would have to become a open company and allow for feedback and actually let people know what there doing. Are we back to the days of the ussr.

I am 95% happy with my iPhone with my only question not complaint is when will we have flash to view Internet content I think it is a must for apple because not having locks out so much and if another phone comes out as good as this with it may hurt in the long run companies should not hold back what the customer wants as we are the ones paying the bills lest they forget

It would be a bad idea to enable Flash on the iPhone. Flash is old technology and requires a tremendous amount of power. It also requires an accelerator on the processor to play the content. This would give you about 45 minutes of battery life and makes no sense when you’re working with portable devises. A new technology is needed when it comes to playing web content on small portable devises.

I am wondering. A lot of my friends have iphones. I want to get one. I like them. But I have also heard a lot of complaints. Such as battery life not being good and the speaker quality having a lot of noise during conversations. If iphone can not quickly address these complaints another market will quickly take its place! Time will tell just how good the Iphone is. On the other side many many people have told me that blackberry is great. The main complaints seemed to be that the small keypad is difficult to use and the screen is so small. It’s a tough one for me to make the choice! Anyone got feedback??….Please send me a message!
