Motorola Droid and HTC Droid Eris launching November 6th on Verizon

Breaking

verizon-droid-eris

One of our connects hit us up and informed us that the much-awaited Motorola Droid and HTC Droid Eris will be launching on the same day of November 6th. We previously heard from another source that Droid Eris would launch on the 6th, so we’re feeling pretty confident that you’ll be able to mosey on down to your local Verizon Wireless shop and pick one up for yourself come next Friday. Is this confirmed? No, but this is the closest we’re going to get besides an official announcement.

I’m excited to see BG’s full review. I’m expecting that to answer a lot of my questions. I haven’t heard anything about revamped plans from Verizon, but that’d sure be nice as well.

i cant load it all i see is a spinning flash animation .. maybe theyre finalizing the page .. ?

i feel like the motodroid itself is getting a little more attention than it really deserves. beyond the fact that verizon now has android and thus some solid smartphones (which, of course, is huge), the droid only represents a relatively incremental improvement over other smartphones, as happens several times per year, and android 2.0 is not really exclusive to it or any device. if anything, the upcoming xperia phone sounds much more deserving of this kind of attention.

eh, this is probably not the most apt place for this observation, since this post actually talks about both droid phones :D

      but still

They have announced the Sprint Hero will have Sense UI upgrade to android 2.0, but does that mean that the Droid Eris will also get this update?

I’m excited to play with these devices. I have heard a lot about both if them but I want to see for myself. I think the Eris has more promise to succeed. I predict that upon launch, a lot of consumers will choose the Eris over the Droid. Not most, but a lot. The Droid is being hyped a lot which can be good and bad. Initially it will attract a lot of attention, but if it doesn’t quite live up to expectations, which it won’t, consumers will turn on it. The Eris will be a hundred dollars cheaper and more consumer friendly. I see people turning to that in the long run. Just my opinion.

I’m thinking of getting away from Verizon and their over priced plans and going to Sprint to get more bang for the buck. Does anyone know for sure if the HTC Hero’s can get the droid 2.0 upgrade? Also, please forgive me for asking guys but…. What is “eris” that I see being spoken of on this blog? I’m new to the lingo. Thanks all!

Sprint, your killing me you have heard you get what you pay for right? Just because a company does a last ditch effort to stop the mass exodus of customers by selling their cell towers and droping their plans doesn’t mean its a good thing. But hey at least they have better 3G coverage than AT&T. Of course their 4G coverage is going to be obsolete by the time verizon and the rest of the world move over to 4G LTE which your overpriced verizon has spent over 12 billion dollars on developing so far. Damn them for trying to provide the best network and customer service in the industry and then wanting to not give it away. Just my 2 cents worth.

Amen to that Warren. You couldn’t pay me to use a service other than Verizon, and I will be the proud owner of the new Doid Eris on Tuesday. Edog there are 2 new smartphones launched by Verizon yesterday. The motorola droid and the droid eris. The eris made by HTC does not have a qwerty keyboard, but it does have a trackball. I guess I’ll find out if HTC is better at making trackballs than Blackberry. The motorola does have a qwerty keyboard. I’ve read that the camera on the eris is better than the droid. The motorola has a fast 550mhz processor but the htc has a better Qualcomm processor. All the verizon phones with an Android operating system will be named droid foo, foo being whatever branding and model number chosen by manufacturer. All the droid phones are trademarked by Lucas Arts as George Lucas just happens to own the word droid. And thats all I have to say about that.

Eris IS Hero rebranded for Verizon, and not GSM.

Order one online They are prepared for the hype this is getting this is not the nintendo Wii launch this phone will be there. There might be a reason he is “Mad” Max

I like the Motorola Droid. Unfortunately I have to wait a few weeks, because I live in Europe where the Droid (in Europe named Milestone) will be not available yet.

  • thatoneguy

Droid Eris is 100 dollars cheaper than the Motorola. The Motorola comes with a 16 gigabyte memory card. The Eris comes with an 8 gig memory card. It all adds up when you think about it, and I already have a 16 gig micro sd memory card which, the Eris supports, so I dont really care.

checked out both phones at my local Verizon, Eris rocks and was cheaper, the MotoDroid didn’t offer enough and the design seemed kinda dated

I bought the Motorolla Droid yesterday and was sooooo disappointed! I took it home and played with it for four hours. I had problems getting the touch to work smoothly. Then I made my first call, and when the other person hung up, my system crashed and went black. I also noticed that the phone became hot while talked for eight minutes. I returned the phone to Verizon, an they removed the battery and the system started up again. They also explained that there could have been a short in the system, and that caused the heat build up. I was so disappointed in the phone…with the case attached, it is cumbersome and heavy. I’m going to look at the Eris tomorrow.

Eris is Verizon’s other Droid phone. It really is a remodeled Hero, running Android 1.5 and HTC’s vaunted Sense candy coating—documented CSI style here—a $200 phone stuffed inside a thinner $100 body.
