Lovers of all things BlackBerry might want to stop on by their local Verizon dealer this Wednesday as that’s the day “a powerful new Storm rolls onto Verizon Wireless’ network” (sorry, we couldn’t resist.) Going for $179.99 on a 2-year contract after a $100 MIR — no word yet on full retail — the Storm2 is everything that Storm 9530 users could hope for in that it is reliable, dependable and has Wi-Fi. We’ve got a production unit from Verizon that we’re currently testing and will publish a review of it shortly, but for now the best we can give you is a press release couple enormous press shots after the jump.

The reason the reps “don’t know anything” is because half the time…WE DON’T! Lol…seriously, there are so many NDA’s that the higher ups have that when WE find out about something, it’s generally through our trainings that we have to take approx. 1-2 weeks before the item gets to us. Honestly, we come to BGR because 95% of the time, they know more than we do just because our bosses HAVE to keep tight lips to us, otherwise they’d lose their licenses. So @Justin, either 1) the VZW reps honestly DON’T KNOW, or 2) they honestly DON’T KNOW. We find things about pretty much when you do, give or take a few days. Sorry.

FYI – My Verizon business rep said it’s a BOGO for the storm 2…..Not sure if that’s old news, good news, or any type of news…..

meh, $179 with 2 year for a phone that should have been released in the 1st place?

i’ll just keep rocking my storm 1 with the 5.0 update until the droid drops.

  • CV

What kind of processor capacity does the Storm2 have? Is it enough to keep the phone from lagging?

  • Omegamaniac

Can anyone say how the browser has been updated? If this phone had a browser as good as Safari on the iPhone it would be the complete phone.

  • Mad

Any word on Verizon giving the storm 1 owners a discount for beta testing the storm since it came out?

    • Sal

You weren’t a beta tester, but you are a dildo. If you didn’t like it you should have returned it.

  • Johny

Interesting how they moved the power button from the end call key to the top of the phone. Is this supposed to act as both a screen lock/power off button now?

  • Lori

No thank you. The first one was a headache!!!!! I dumped my BB Storm for the 3GS Iphone………LOVE IT!

  • Steve

To everyone yelling and screaming at potentially buying the Storm2, I have a very simple question to ask you (honest feedback appreciated).

If your work only allows Blackberry (due to enterprise and security issues), and you want to stick with Verizon because other servers are not even 50% of its quality in my area, what other choice do you possibly have? The Tour or the Storm2 is all you are left with. iPhones are specifically not supported, or any other smartphone type.

I would take a look and think if i really didnt have much choice then id go for the storm 2 but really i would try to avoid it its still has a lot of issues.

      Hope that Helps.

    • TedP

The Tour is a good phone (now – not back in July) but I would heavily consider the Storm 2 simply for the WiFi. (even though I prefer a real keyboard) – or wait for the Bold 2 to show up.

  • Laura

any chance of a BB in Q4’09 or Q1’10 with a qwerty keyboard and wifi?

    • daisuke

      @Laura

The Curve 8530 has WiFi and is rumored to be out on VZW by the end of the year.

  • daisuke

    P.S. …and an optical trackpad!

  • Tony

Just a complete shame that existing Storm users cannot get some form of price break to upgrade to the Storm 2. Almost makes me want to consider buying my contract out and going to Sprint and get a working Blackberry from them for cheaper than paying full retail for a Storm 2 from Verizon

    • Judi

Sprint’s customer service is not good. And why pay an upgrade fee for a new phone when contract is up? I have sold Verizon and Sprint and handsdown……Verizon.
If you are due for your new upgrade you will get the upgrade pricing on the phone. I wouldn’t recommend getting the Storm 2 till it has been out for awhile and see how things go with it. I sold both carriers. I do know how frustrating phone issues can be and the Storm has plenty. If you want a quality BB I recommend the Tour It is with Sprint too, but trust me, Verizon is so much better.

  • Laura

Thanks Daisuke! Any chance of the Tour w/WIFI? The Tour is such a lovely thing to behold.

    • Judi

I don’t care about WIFI I have a nice laptop with VZW’s wireless internet.
For me it is about quality all way around and BB Tour has exactly that. I love my TOUR and wouldn’t want the BB Storm 1 or 2.
The Tour is an awesome device. It does all I need from it and I am very pleased with it.
You can’t go wrong with the Tour.

  • nico

i have a tour and it’s not bad, but am getting frustrated with rim devices. i tried the storm at vzw store and knew it was a p.o.s. i will look hard at the droid …

  • Laura

If the Apple ITablet comes out ahead of the Tour w/WIFI, maybe I won’t care either. That is … if the tablet will give me internet/email access. Until then, I’m hoping to leave the laptop home. I do so want the Tour. I’m just holding out for WIFI.

  • Kyle

I have insurance for my Storm through Verizon. If it were to need replacing in the near future (due to unforeseen circumstance I assure you, lol), would they replace it with a Storm 2?

    • Justin

Yes, Assurion just replaced my BB, $50/24HRS. VZW

  • Radhwan

how can i be the dealer in the middle east.
