That’s fantastic news! As a TELUS subscriber, I’ve wanted ze iPhone for quite some time now. Barring any problems with converting my contract to ze HSPA network (I’m on a share plan with my family, so if we can’t share minutes… I’m pretty much boned) I’ll be picking up an iPhone either at launch or towards Christmas.

If all goes well.

Yall Canadians let us know what kinda actual d/l speeds you get please. If it’s fast enough I might have to move up north. Thanks.

So honest question. will their HSPA network cover the same footprint as their CDMA network?

The real, real question is will they allow tethering and MMS or will they be typically Telus and lock everything down?

Manny the answer is yes. They upgraded all their existing sites with the new HSPA+ network equipment. So their footprint will remain the same if not better.

You should be able to stay on the same contract. I would think you just need a new phone to pick up the frequencies that the hspa is running on. (ex. the iPhone) But I ain’t positive about it, that’s the way it would work here in the states.

I have been waiting for this for so long but not for the iPhone. I will probably pick up the new Bold 9700.

Just a heads up, the contract prices are based on a voice and data plan of min $50/month. So if you are planning on not getting data you will have to pay more. Check the fine print on Telus’ website.

When the iPhone first came out I wanted it. It’s been out for so long now it’s no longer exciting. I don’t think I’ll bother.

The Mobile Ninjas have leaked out the handset pricing for all the TELUS HSPA handsets.

Sniff … I smell the narcistic monopoly of Rogers coming to and end.

jsut a heads up to anyone in Manitoba or Sasktachewan. You will not have HSPA service at launch. This includes major cities like Regina and Winnipeg, who in most cases would be an exception.

It might be the end of Rogers monoply but with Bell and Telus now on the same technology they won’t compete any different than in the past. The Monopoly just tripled in size.
Telus announced (it is on http://www.CBC.ca) they sell the IPHONE for the same price as Rogers does. BIG DEAL!!!

telus sucks! at least I can understand my roger’s bill. when i had telus mobile service, and with my home service from telus, understanding the bills and the 20 ways they are charging me for the same service was/is a major pain.

Sadly the claim it covers 93% of Canadians is followed by a disclaimer that it does not cover Saskatchewan or Manitoba. So if your like me and live say in Winnipeg you are stuck with the same old network until Q3 2009 or just before Q4 realistically.

There will be new rate plans introduced that have no system access or enhanced 911 fees. In theory a $25 plan will cost more then its $30 counterpart.

$25+6.95+$0.75= $32.70

$30=$30

anyone know if telus’s new HSPA+ 3G network will be compatible with other GSM handsets that run on the 1900/850MHz frequencies?

This is sweet. Competition is good, consumer benefit.

So, Question. Does anyone know when the hspa network will be launched for Manitoba?? I’ve been waiting to get my hands on the new Bold 9700.
