T-Mobile formally announces its Even More and Even More Plus plans

tmo-even-unlimited

We’ve been following T-Mobile’s Project Dark ever since it was a little twinkle in the eyes of Robert Dotson’s crew, but now the day has come for it all to become official. There are a lot of different options to chose from, but for simplicities sake we’re going to focus on the two biggies. Individuals will be able to get unlimited talk, texts and web for $99.99 with Even More (Contract) and $79.99 with Even More Plus (no contract). We admit that the plans aren’t anywhere near as good as we or anyone else had initially thought, and no doubt a lot of people who sign a contract aren’t going to be thrilled at paying a lot more than their contract-free counterparts, but hey, at least another major carrier has entered the unlimited business for the second time. Now where are those new handsets at?

Thanks, Achilles!

haha. ah man, gspot’s (awesome name by the way…) comment @ 7:10pm (i guess it would be EDT) is great. as a “corporate in the cell industry” he uses language such as “ROFL” and “luvy” (?). his play on words is terrible. and he uses tilde’s to separate his remarks.

well done champ, great job indeed.

let me guess, you are mid-twenties, you drive a 2004 mitsubishi eclipse, and you have a soul patch and platinum tips. sounds about right?

    T-Mo,

I have been a customer since voicestream/powertel day and need a good smart phone or a Verizon droid is in my future.

    Thanks

Really for 5 lines what is the cheapest carrier. Tmobile does unlimited everthing for $245.00 What company beats that for 5 lines. Even More Plus plan: $140-first 2 lines and $35 for each additional. Give me feedback please.

I have 5 lines with Sprint that I pay a total of $190/mo for (+ taxes, of course). Here’s what I get for that price (130 for first two lines, 20 for each additional):

      * Unlimited Data on all lines
      * Unlimited text on all lines
      * Unlimited MMS (or picture mail depending on the phone) on all lines
      * Sprint TV, Sprint Navigation, all that other stuff
      * Free roaming
      * Unlimited Nights (starting at 7pm) and Weekends
      * Unlimited calls to any mobile phone (excludes while roaming)
      * 1500 shared minutes to use when calling landlines during the day or while roaming

Last month on all five lines together we used somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 anytime minutes. I’m at a strange spot in my billing cycle so I can’t actually give how many of the other types of minutes we used, but it was significantly more.

        @ Jacob Steenhagen

Hate to break it to you but I got the same plan + Sprint Pick3 ~ $165. (I have a 25% discount that I negotiated with retentions..>:P).

@ Gabriel, the answer is “yes”, you can get a better deal. Even without the discount you’re at about $220 on Sprint.

And to all the Sprint haters…does your carrier allow you to upgrade your phone every 11 months and get the new account pricing on devices? or do you have to wait the term of your 2yr contract?..or pay full price?

      • jamalhunt

Yeah, sounds good…too bad the service sucks! That’s why they give you all of those free upgrades in retention.

      • Who?

Upgrade every 11 months for the 2 year price? I don’t see that on Sprint’s New For You website:

Even more plus is saving me 30 bucks compared to my old my favs plan and I have an iphone unlocked and works just fine for me on t-mobile’s network

Just how can T-Mobile offer “Nationwide 3g” when they don’t even have Nationwide DATA? Is having 3g on both coast lines (and not even completely) supposed to qualify as “coast to coast 3g”?

You can argue back and forth about the value of the plans, but the Nationwide 3g claim is a flat out lie.

  • Dee

@Gabriel: Sprint = $190 for 5 lines, any mobile, anytime, unlimited text and data

  • JERRY

This Project Dark was supposed to change things… but Sprint is still better IMO … because Sprint got way better 3g … and with Any Mobile.. most follks dont need Unlimited Talk,…

  • Eric

Their 3g coverage is just not large enough to make me switch from AT

Why are so many people are crying let me guess by a fake hype of a fifty dollar everything unlimited plan people and some blogs wished for, Just get over it, may save money for some or if your current plan works for you just keep it. As for other company’s at&t plain out sucks dropped calls, customer service for some reason when they took on the at&t name they just got stupid as for Sprint they have good plans but crappy ass customer service, VW great coverage, snobs for customer service and glad they are opening there phones software access. What can I say either you love or hate your service provider, Just stop crying over what you have and if you don’t like it change it…. Some just need to grow up. I for one love t-mobile

T-Mobile is lame. These new prices are even affordable. I’d rather go with Sprint now just because T-Mobile pissed me off. I was counting on that $50 everything plan because money is hard to come by these days. I thought T-Mobile was cool until this charade. Guess I should switch to Sprint when they get a good phone.

  • Zach

Whoops I meant their new prices AREN’T AFFORDABLE!!!

  • Zach

Yay now I can get a crappy $800 phone and crappy cell service all in one place. Thanks Lame-Mobile.

  • Henry

Its too bad tmobile’s 3g is on those freakish AWS bands. Imagine if you could bring unlocked iphone 3g’s over to tMo and have the 3g work… That would truly shake things up. But this… Where are your options if you want tmobile’s 3g at a reasonable price? There arent any really. $550 for an unsubsidized TP2? if it was going to work with other carriers’ 3g i would consider spending that kind of money but not in this situation.
Unfortunately i see this as more a strategic shift to get customers from services like Cricket and Boost, and i cant say that im pleased about that.

  • Average_User

It amazes me that people who just give their opinion on this new T-Mobile plan as “cry babies”. What most are saying is this is nothing special as T-Mobile execs make it out to be. IMHO offering No Contract is nothing to gloat about. I know its one of the four major carriers but that still is nothing to say that it will launch you out of your current position. Again that’s my opinion and well only time will tell.

  • Tournstone

As an existing T-Mobile customer, I switched to a new plan and will save over $55 per year. Here’s what I did:

    What I had:
1800 my faves family plan for: $89.99.
I added unlimited messaging to that for: $19.95
Line 1 – Samsung Behold with a TZones plan: $5.99
    Line 2 – Balckberry 8900 with data plan and HotSpots: $24.99 & $9.99
    Line 3 – @Home: $9.99
Line 4 – Sidekick 2008 with sidekick data plan and additional line charge: $24.99 & $9.99
Line 5 – Moto KRazer with nothing but an additional line charge: $9.99
Total (without taxes and fee and such): $205.87

One year left on my contract but no ETF.
    $35 fee(s) waived by corporate ID#

    What I got:
    T-Mobile Even More Plus Talk + Text + Web Family 1500: $119.00
Line 1 – Samsung Behold (data now included)
Line 2 – Balckberry 8900 (data now included) with HotSpots: $9.99
    Line 3 – @Home: $10.00
Line 4 – Sidekick 2008 (data now included) with additional line charge: $5.00
Line 5 – Moto KRazer with additional line charge: $5.00
Total (without taxes and fee and such): $148.99

    Monthly savings of $56.88

Daughter will soon get my Blackberry to replace her Sidekick while I get the N900 I was planning on getting anyway (unsubsidized). I’ll have to tell T-mobile to switch services on hers and my lines, but no additional fees or new charges from there.

    • Bill

Reply to Tournstone: You do not have “included web” in Line 4, that line is $30…$5 for the additional line itself, $25 for the web.

I thought the exact same thing you did, despite having T-Mobile Web (Unlimited T-Zones) at $5.99 on each of my 5 lines.

My pricing was a difference of 13 cents between the MyFaves Family 1800, Family Unlimited Text, T-Mobile Web and 3 additional lines – $169.86

New plan Even More Plus Family Unlimited Talk + Text + Web – $139.99. Additional lines – $30.00. New price – $169.99; $0.13 more

Here’s the catch; the additional lines are $10 each as I originally thought; they’re $30 – $5 for the additional line and $25 for the web.

Now, I’ve heard depending on the device you have on that line, they may charge $10 for web use; but smart phones, it is in fact $25.

So for a family of 5; all in smart phone devices the price is $139.99 for the first 2 lines; and $90 – $30 each for additional line; total $229.99.

Old plan $169.86, new plan $229.99.

I prefer Skype to @Home. One year of service is $60. $30 for the service itself, $30 for the SkypeIn number. Of course if friends & family use the same IM program and are adept to using a headset; it took works; free.

Please double check your additional lines other than 1 & 2 that have the web!

      • Tournstone

I was very concerned on this one two. I called back yesterday and I have done so now twice today. Each time a T-Mobile rep (and the last one I made go check with some one else) has re-assured me that with +web, data is included on all devices as part of the plan with no additional charges. I have to specify what each device is (Behold gets smartphone, BB gets BB, SK gets SK and KRazor even gets a t-zones like phone centric data thing), but it is all included in +web.

I still don’t trust ‘em, so I recorded the call. If you are right, I’ll show how I was told differently and scream like heck.

Ok, I am going to call one more time now.

    • Who?

Congrats. Wish you had correctly written $55 per month instead of per year in your first sentence; would have made it more powerful.

I’m on AT&T now, getting ripped off, hoping to jump to T-Mo for the HD2.

    • Jason

Bill, what are you talking about? With these plans if you add the unlimited web ALL the lines have unlimited web. No additional web fees.

  • Bill

With the exception of my wife; our family has T-Mobile. She has Verizon for one simple reason; there’s no T-Mobile coverage where she works and along one area of road she travels. Now that said, I took a long, long look at these new plans and fundamentally the change is more emphasis on no contracts and monthly plans generally $20 cheaper per month than their contract counterparts which continue with discounted pricing on those devices. Now, with the no contract plans they offer Equipment Installments up to 20 months. It is no secret T-Mobile made hay with MyFaves. I think what has been forgotten in the forums are like the following example. My stepson is now at Fort Polk, LA; there is no T-Mobile coverage in a good bit of Central Louisiana, but they do have GSM 850 which is Centennial Communications. They are currently being acquired by AT&T, but per DOJ they must divest a part of Central Louisiana and give that to Verizon Wireless and the same was true not too long ago in North & South Carolina when T-Mobile acquired SunComm and it too had to divest some areas to guess who; AT&T. This is nothing new, but before we get caught up with who is the better company among the big 4 it is important to keep in mind where you live, who’s there and whether it’s GSM or CDMA or both. Just like banks, these companies are gobbling up smaller companies and it doesn’t seem long before we’re dealing with 4 companies and only 4; two each GSM & CDMA. As an existing T-Mobile customer; these new plans don’t help me at all, but there are many scenarios which they do help, but for customers who have been with T-Mobile a long time and have taken advantage of plans for example like T-Mobile Web aka Unlimited T-Zones there are a group of customers paying $2.99 and others like myself paying $5.99. It is identical to Unlimited Web for the MyTouch3G, TouchPro2 or any smart phone which prior to the new plans was $24.99 and is now $25. I save $95 staying in my old plan; some save $105. Finally, there are a myriad of plans and as many options for T-Mobile customers and I have found T-Mobile will bend over backwards and make adjustments to customer plans. For those who are upset with T-Mobile; the unlimited plan they floated around for $49.99 to loyal customers was never expected to be permanent and was a precursor to the launch of these plans. Personally, I don’t think what T-Mobile has done changes anything long term. Like many have said, T-Mobile operates on completely different 3G bands, but where they do have 3G, it’s faster than AT&T but it is important before everybody supports and/or condemns T-Mobile who and what is in their best interest; do we want AT&T monopolizing the entire GSM spectrum and Verizon, CDMA? That’s where we’re heading if we’re not careful.

  • Tournstone

Never mind. Sorry. You are correct. Too expensive, Canceling the change.

  • Carl

Well I think these plans are good for new customers, but customers already on the loyalty plan will stay on those plans. Unless it’s like myfaves, or other plans. Personally I’m sticking to my 1,000 Family PLan, since we never reach 1,000(~900), so no need for 1500 or unlimited, but we can’t have less. So, even the rep said the plan we are on now is perfect. All I’m waiting for is more 3G rollouts with that HSPA+ upgrade, and new handsets like HD2, N900, etc.

  • omogashi

so…. I got a new argument, will EDGE work on Tmobile’s network with an iPhone 3g (3.0.1) with only the unlimited text and 500 minutes talk (free nights/weekends) plan, no free web.

I dont have any data plan, just simply the 39.99$ plan mentioned above, my iphone is already unlocked and jailbroken and set up on Tmobile.

has anyone found out a new APN that will work for EDGE after Tmobile’s whole new plans?

  • BobBruff

These plans are actually more expensive for me than my current MyFaves plan. Not only do I not get the Faves which will force me to bump up to a higher minute plan, but I’ve been paying $20 for the unlimited Blackberry addon. Why have T-Mo’s data plans gotten so expensive?

  • SickNTired

After listening to the TMo sales rep go on ad nauseum about the so-called wonderful cell plan less the contract, I do as I always do and asked her to bottomline it for me…tell me what I’m paying to go to this plan. This is a question necessary for future budgeting. She bottomlined it…with lies by omission. My new bill shows that I’m slammed with “migration” fees of 35 bones for the phones. You get only two phones on the family plan with unlimited minutes…you pay an additional 20 bones for unlimited text…additional lines are 10 bones each and come with only 200 minutes…another bit of info the rep failed to tell me…to get unlimited minutes on the 3rd or more line is an additional 20 bones. 200 minutes is…what…a little over 6 minutes a day? Joke. No mention of migration charges…and I suspect there are other hidden fees included as well. And, oh…a caveat…you cannot return to your prior plan if you aren’t happy with this dog with fleas. Tmo’s response to my heated call about not being fully informed in making my switch was their lame and invariable “our computer shows that you were advised of the fees and services.” Is it no wonder their customers are leaving? I hear Verizon has the best customer service. I see why people feel that good customer service is worth the extra money. TMobile…take this note: Poor customer service means higher bills by deception. Do you really have to “trick” your customers into changing plans? Verizon…I’m knocking on your door.
