Google Mail contact syncing option appears on BIS sites

News

bis-contact-syncBack on the 3rd we reported the release of BIS 2.8 to North American BlackBerry users, and with that came two-way contact synchronization with Google Mail — one of the new wiz-bang features. Today we’re getting reports from BIS users that now have the Google Mail contact synchronization option available to them from their carriers BIS website. While this doesn’t do anyone much good, as two-way contact syncing requires BlackBerry OS 5.0 or better, it seems to indicate the folks in Waterloo have the full court press on to finally get 5.0 out the door. Or you know, there’s like mad new BlackBerrys coming or something.

Too bad I’m with Fido and our BIS is soo limited that we can’t even resend service books or even have a wap browser!

    I can’t wait…but then again…*yawn*.

I agree with Tron. Not so spectacular. Google has provided a sync for a while and this sync does half of what Google sync already does so BIS users will still have to use Google Sync for calendar sync anyway.

Blackberry is rapidly falling behind in the smart-phone world. I personally have abandoned them completely and the onus is on them to bring me back which will not be easy.

I have OS 5.0 on my tour and I can confirm that this doesn’t work for me. I have email reconciliation set on my Tour and I have it set to wireless synchronization on my BIS. Can anyone confirm that deleting emails on your desktop account will delete them from your BlackBerry?

    Ditto Tron’s and B Ward’s sentiments.

It’s just a matter of time before Android or WM 6.5 sweeps me away…

Deleting emails from your desktop will NOT delete them from your BlackBerry. The reconciliation only works from the BB to your email service; not the other way.

Android is about to sweep me away. I am changing carriers and moving to an Android phone at the end of this month. I agree that Blackberry is falling behind in the smartphone world.

Good, but from the end-user’s perspective, not very interesting. Bring out real two-way sync with Gmail and then we’ll talk.

  • Tom

This is what it says when you click on the question mark to the right of deleted items.

“Note: Depending on your messaging service plan, this feature might not be supported.

After you add an email address to the BlackBerry® Internet Service, you can delete an email message in your integrated email account and the email message is also deleted on your BlackBerry device.

By default, email reconciliation for deleted email messages is turned on for all types of integrated email accounts, except POP email accounts.

If you turn off wireless email reconciliation on your device, deleted email messages do not reconcile between your integrated email account and your device. For more information about email reconciliation, on the Home screen of your device, click the Help icon.”

Is this only exclusive to BES, because I am not getting the results that I should as stated above.

I have a tour with a leaked version of 5.0 and It worked for me after I reopened my gmail and accepted the terms and agreements.

I’ve got a 9530 on VZW and I’m running .230 on OS 5. It’s got a glitch in it where it only transfers your contacts phone numbers to your Gmail. It didn’t transfer any of the email addresses. Which makes it sort of pointless really. I used Google Sync and it sync’d properly. It’s a good idea tho.
