Exclusive

We just got a link to Verizon’s new campaign directly aimed at the iPhone, and boy is it awesome. Everything the iPhone doesn’t, the Droid does, huh? Hit the link for some more shots of the ad!

Thanks, ffcsquall24

UPDATE: Our faithful commenters seem to have deciphered the countdown and it appears to be counting down to October 30th. Hmm, where have we heard that date before?

    Wow!

People go apeshit over debating. I think it would be cool to have all of our prayers answered over night by one single company/phone, but the truth is technology is an ever changinging entity that will constantly have to reinvent itself to please the masses. I sure hope the droid is as awesome as it looks to be in it’s cryptic ads, but then again, some one will find some thing to complain about or a way to make it better. I currently have an iPhone, believe me it’s not perfect. What it does do, it does well. I am also confident that over time it will evolve and satisfy all of my wants and needs. If there is a better phone I will buy it. As of now this one makes phone calls, syncs to my mac better than any other and helps me handle business on a regular bassis. I hope you find a phone that does that for you. To each their own…

The first iPhone was revolutionary.. though there was a big delay in that revolution, waiting for Apple to support applications.

Every release sense then has been pretty boring… adding features they should have had in the first place.

So I wouldn’t hold my breath on “revolutionary” any time soon. Not that they need to be, they’re doing fine as they are –

I’ll never buy an Apple product anyway, so it’s no big deal to me either way. I simply believe I have a better idea than Steve Jobs about the software that should be running on my purchased hardware.

Verizon had that problem in the past, but it’s clear they have isolated Apple’s closed market as one of their selling points. This one crosses the threshold… it’s good enough to replace my old Palm Treo :-)

Android itself has a spectacular promise right now. Every major phone company except Apple, Nokia, and RIM are working on Android phones (Nokia apparently has an Android-powered tablet in the works, but no phones… yet). The largest cellular providers now in the USA, China, South America, and Europe are supporting Android.

Sure, it’s behind Apple now (and both are behind RIM, but that hasn’t kept Apple from closing the gap, either). But it’s certain to surpass Apple. A big part of this is the open source factor — Apple had all kinds of harsh demands on their cellular carries, kick-backs and all, in return for exclusive contracts. Android is putting the same commodity market behind smart phones that led to the success of the PC on the desktop/lap. Apple will never be willing to compete against this in any way that’ll work, any more than Apple as a single hardware company can really take on the PC establishment.

I went to the Verizon store yesterday with my 5th Omnia that the screen black. I told them the stupid thing only needed to work a couple weks abd I was available for an upgrade. I told him I was going to get the droid when available, he exvused himself and came back in about 5 minutes happily punching his keyboard abd looked up and told me my new droid would be here 21 October! I got the tracking info abd its on the way!!!! Stores don’t have them but the warehouse does. Obviously the 30 October date is a go! And if you do a little begging you can get them to ship you one now.

Really, I wanna see if that is true, I have been hearing that the 30th is the day that they will come announce it and it will be available on the 6th of November.

  • Hahaha

    Jeff is wrong.

  • That GUY

Jeff is so wrong that when I read what he wrote I laughed so hard I almost wet my pants. What an idiot!

Lol at a lot of the iPhone vs. Droid comments.

“The ad is totally BS positioning by Verizon for this phone – its based on totally misleading statements.”

Have you seen Apple’s ad campaigns? I mean, ever? Because if so you shouldn’t be complaining haha…

So it seems a lot of people are agreeing that the count down timer is showing october 30th to the exact minute. the question that arises is; Is it Eastern Standard Time or Pacific Standard Time? HUH!? Which is it?

  • JustMeJess

I think that the countdown is actually to midnight the morning of October 28th, not to the 30th. What I came up with seems to say there are six days, thirteen hours, seventeen minutes, and some seconds left . . . and it’s currently 10:43 A.M. my time on 10/21.

  • xeydeax

I have to agree with JustMeJess. I also deciphered it on October 28th when I first saw it. Good to see I wasn’t the only one.

The Droid looks tempting. I actually have an Iphone3gs too and like it, but I get whatever suits my fancy. I actually have my eye on the Maemo OS that Nokia has on their latest smartphone. As far as the Droid being an Iphone killer, I think not. We all know that Apple is working on another Iphone for next year. This is competition though and I like it. It forces all manufacturers to up their game. If I did not have an Iphone, I would have either the Droid or get the unlocked N900 from Nokia.
