Vodafone to have Storm2 exclusivity for only “a few weeks”

voda-storm2-2

With the BlackBerry Storm2 getting nice and official over night, we here at BGR thought that it would be nice for us to take a moment and focus on just what its launch means for our loyal readers that aren’t living in The New World. Earlier this week, UK-based The Guardian proclaimed that the Storm2 would be announced by both RIM and Vodafone this week. Clearly this was the case as we now know it will be arriving on or around the 26th of October, but its report missed out on one huge revelation — Vodafone’s exclusivity on the device will only last “a few weeks”. This of course paves the way for other carriers such as O2, Orange and T-Mobile to get in on the Storm action. While all of the aforementioned Storm2 candidate carriers have remained mom mum on the matter, The Guardian is hedging its bets on Orange carrying the Storm2 in time for Christmas. What does this all mean for the UK? Well, when one considers that every major carrier is going to be offering the iPhone 3GS and has the option of picking up the Storm2, it looks as if a major price war is about to erupt in time for the holidays.

Awesome, but what news of the Motorola Droid/Sholes? We all saw that pic on Engadget that the BG posted on his Twitter account…where’s the review? Where are the other shots of it? Details, please!

  • jk

i wonder how much that cost voda?

  • VZW

    umm… Qualcomm 3G CDMA on a GSM only phone…?

  • Observer

This will be the real test: what will people pick when they have the option of the storm2 or the iPhone on the same network?? I have a feeling a lot of people will be picking the iPhone

Isn’t competition great! Too bad here in the US we like corporate monopolies more than competition.

  • Justin

    Jcray, I dream of a day that your comment is a joke instead of reality. ;;sad;;

  • Maverick

@VZW the original 9500 says the same on the back

    Dude, go away.
No US Carrier is even listed in the post you dumbass.
    Go troll along someplace else.

  • Jeremiah

@VZW: Are you serious? The Qualcomm 3G CDMA refers to the 3G WCDMA/UMTS/HSPA chip in this darned thing…

  • umaluver

Its funny to read a blog about cell phones and then secrectly wish I lived in Europe. :/

  • What!!!!

Why can this not happen in the US??? If AT&T got the Storm 2, I would put my iPhone on ebay before you could say “Verizon Blows”!!!

Please bring touchscreen BB to AT&T so I can get my email today…..and get decent 3g reception….and change themes……and etc.

I love my sprint plan. I get the most Bang for the Buck. My 8330 is a very cool phone that gets the job done. Dont like the IPhone feel thats it’s way to limited and is not as powerful as Blackberrys lineup. Dont get me wrong, its a cool gadget but Blackberrys seem much more functional.

    But I want a Storm 2!!!

    Please, Sprint!!!!
Do whatever it takes to get this phone.
I need it in my life!

  • tRICKster

    @ jerry dumbass, marcus, whatever.
    Dude, stop yelling.

Go storm2….fingers crossed on early upgrade.

    @ Jerrry Marcus

Sir you are very ignorant with your childish comments. Everything you post here in BGR makes no sense what so ever. Please save your comments elsewhere. The Storm2 will have a good low price for its customers to upgrade.

Where is the verizon annoucement on this?? When can we get our hands on this in the US already??

I had gotten the storm 1, and returned to go back to my Pearl. I’ve been waiting for the Storm 2 for a year now. Unless the Iphone gets annouced on Verizon in next three weeks, I get myself a Storm 2.

  • RAS

    @ Irritated:

Couldn’t have said it better myself! They mention almost every other North American carrier there EXCEPT Sprint! Whatup with that?!

Well, maybe I exaggerated on the part about “every other carrier”, but hey, Sprint is conspicuously absent from that list. Have they ruled it out already?

    I wan’t a Storm 2!!

  • booboo

    just because is just because
    1. no more shit
    2. a lot of crap

  • dtreo

    @Irritated

seriously? you’re on Sprint using an 8330 and wishing for a Storm 2? with the Touch Pro 2, Hero, Pre (Pixi soon) and even Treo Pro all being better than 8330? at least get a Tour for cryin out loud. Storm 2 will take a good long time to come to Sprint and so many options are better than that anyway.
