Bell to get the BlackBerry Bold 9000 in black, Rogers in white

Exclusive

Even though we here at BGR think that the BlackBerry Bold 9000 is so Summer/Fall 2008 (and even that’s one hell of a stretch considering it was announced that May), it seems that RIM and its partner carriers don’t. Best Buy Canada’s internal inventory system shows that both Bell and Rogers still have plans for the 3G device even though the new hotness is but a few weeks away. From Bell we have the Bold 9000, a rather strange offering considering that it is going to be selling the BlackBerry 9700. Still, we must concede that it makes a bit of sense in that Bell can offer up the 9000 as its mid-end BlackBerry while Rogers is already stuck with positioning EDGE-only devices like the Curve 8900 and Curve 8520 as its more affordable devices. Speaking of Rogers, it is going to be picking up the white BlackBerry Bold — the very same one we’ve been going on about for months — although we’re not entirely clear when it will go on sale. That is to say we don’t know if, just like AT&T, the white Bold will be released to select markets on the 18th of this month. If you’d like to relish in what is surely straight up BlackBerry Bold fire, larger screenshots after the breakage.

Thanks, REMS!

    It’s like pissing in the wind… Releasing the 9000 almost two years after it was available on other carriers? Brilliant, Bell! You’re awesome, Rogers!

    White or not, if you’re going to be tied to a new 2 or 3 year contract, you might as well get an up-to-date phone… Not this Model T.

    While you’re at it, imagine a white Bold 9000 after a few months. It’ll look like garbage. Especially the white pleather back.

    Anyone that buys either of these antiques as part of a contract renewal should uninstall life.

    OMG the 9700 is going to be $999 without contract, LOL!

  • Majarvis

    Wait, those prices can’t be right. An ancient 7290 for $599.99? lol.

  • Hoky

    $999.99 crazy!

    price maybe is wrong!

    @mO
    i thought Rogers was the first to get the Bold last Sept 2008. Wasn’t it only annouced in May ’08? How can that be 2 years that it’s been out?

    There must be some mistakes for the prices(I hope!).

    Black Blackberry is cool, how can we discribe the white bold? cute? lovely? beaultifl?

    I think the reason that Bell is launching the Bold 9000 is so that they have a cheaper Berry on their new HSPA network.

  • Danizme

    I know exactly why Bell is releasing this pre-historic device.

    They are not 100% sure when they are going to launch their new hspa network. But they can’t launch it without a Blackberry available for purchase on it. And they don’t think the 9700 will be available on Nov 1(their projected launch date). So the 9000 is just a stop gap until the 9700 is available.

    I don’t think they ordered more than 1000 Bolds company wide.

    @Martin

    Rogers selling the bold 9000 for 249, while 99 at the source. On a contrary, the source is charging Curve 8900 for 49 at the source.

    The point is, Bell better charge the bold something below $99, in order to attract customers to buy into this aging phone. (I believe)

  • mangenius

    The source is trying to blow out its Rogers inventory so they can begin selling Bell..

    And why the hell you being a bitch about a company offering variety

  • currency man

    @Majarvis: the prices are probably in canadian $

  • andrew

    @Hoky
    I don’t think the 9700 price has been announced yet. They probably just needed a price for their system. But Expect it to be $599-699 with no contract!
