T-Mobile admits your Sidekick data is gone like the wind

Sorry to be the bearers of bad news for T-Mobile Sidekick customers that are still without data after nearly two weeks, but it appears that you’ve got little to no chance of ever getting any information you had stored on Danger’s servers back. Said T-Mobile today:

“Regrettably, based on Microsoft/Danger’s latest recovery assessment of their systems, we must now inform you that personal information stored on your device – such as contacts, calendar entries, to-do lists or photos – that is no longer on your Sidekick almost certainly has been lost as a result of a server failure at Microsoft/Danger.”

Ouch. Can someone please check that Perez Hilton hasn’t had a heart attack? Just to clarify, there is a difference between no data access, which is now restored, and device data on handset. Because of this, T-Mobile urges you not to turn off your Sidekick or let its battery die.

@ Joe calm down and get a life. BB is a good OS but it isn’t God. It is actually confusing for many people who first try to use it. And don’t tell me BB isn’t flawless. BIS has been down a lot lately in different places. Android is quite good but at the moment my favorite is actually WebOS.

By the way this is a different Joe. He is not commenting on his own post

That’s what happens when you use Microshit Servers to house your data.

@ grr i was kiddin lol @ joe so what was a better phone than the sidekick 2.. thats before razrs, curves, pearls iphones, even the htc 6700 came out a year later… the 6600 or a palm could have been argued.. but wm or palm os werent even considered consumer phones because there was no 3g to support todays consumer features..

  • Donny Osmond

Who the hell is “Sidekick”? And what the hell is a “Perez Hilton”?

  • Bama Boy

    Why would use a Berry….no 3G and horrible keyboard…small screens….whack App Store…

I’m fortunate here in Bama to have 3G in most of the major places like Birmingham….so u and ur slow ass Blackberry’s can kick it…..I aint waiting for no 9700 to start pushing 3G….I have Cliq on the brain….that will most likely be my next phone…don’t wanna wait for N900 either….

Android uses similar storage…all my contacts were saved to my Gmail account when I used the G1 for a few months…I can even still view them when I go to gmail.com……similar to how you used to be able to log in on Sidekick Desktop Interface and see em…..but let u tell it everything except BB sucks…..BB to me are the lames….they fell behind the “curve” years ago….

So noone is going to mention how great the iPhone is? Well, if you won’t, I will! :-)

  • Yaniv

Really? Are some of you that ignorant? 1 this has nothing to do with TMobile, they are carriers not service providers. Its not thier fault. 2 it isn’t Microsofts fault either, they own danger, they don’t run it. 3 what did you expect from a toy? The sidekick is geared towards kids, its a toy.
im not saying that is any excuse for dangers obvious screw up here, but if you buy a toy for a phone you get what you pay for. Now get yourself an Android and be happy.

  • cplush

@ steve jobs…..my old circa 2003 $15 moto flip phone is better than a sidekick as of right now…this in no way proves the iphone. heck, ANY phone is great is you are a sidekick owner/user right now…

if you were kidding dont take this the wrong way :)

  • ant1pathy

If you actually think that the keyboard on a Sidekick is better than on a Blackberry, you are in denial. Far landscape with little bubbles for buttons and giant bumper pads on each side does not make for a comfortable typing experience.

I admit, my daughter got me to start using the sidekick. I too, thought it was sor just kids. Then after I saw and played with her Sk 2, I purchased one for myself. Then a Sk 3, then a Slide 08 for me and my wife. I have been in the Telecom business since the days I was selling the Motorola brick for $1200.00

Sidekick was my favorite phone untll I wanted to turn off the data plan , since I have a I touch and wifi. And soon as the data was disconnect , I lost all my data and was calling Tmobile like a crackhead in need of a fix. That’s when I decided to look for another phone. I got tmobile to give me the Mytouch @ activation price, also data credits, for this ordeal. I heard I can back up on SD card.
I just don’t know why the hell Tmobile didn’t make their version of a touch phone , not have a slide out keyboard also!

    @Bama Boy
Your command of the English language is amazing.

Well this makes me feel good that I bought the curve8900 instead of the sidekicklx09 even tho I think it looks nicer its just too big. To any sidekick users if I were you I would probably go to android or blackberry or the n-series phones when they come out or htctouch pro2. With all the new phones coming out you guys should just wait it out and pick some of the cool new ones plus if that $50 unlimited plan is true well it just keeps getting better doesn’t it? Also, IMO I hope the sidekick doesn’t die but I hope it goes to android just imagine a touchscreen sidekick running android, that would be nice.

Glad I don’t work for Tmo’s Sidekick department anymore.

This is why I’ve never put my chips on cloud computing. If the cloud is gone, so will be any contained data.

  • Hank Rearden

Danger servers worked perfectly for 9 years. They even saved me after a nuked Outlook database. Then along comes Microsoft to improve things……why does everthing they touch turn to $hit. Micro-soft, a good name for an impotent company…….
