Rogers to release the BlackBerry Curve 8520 on October 9th for $100?

General

rogers-bb-8520

We’ve known for the longest time that Rogers will soon be releasing the wallet friendly BlackBerry Curve 8520, but up until now we’ve (or anyone, for that matter) been unable to figure out the exact release date and pricing of one of the worst kept phone secrets in recent memory. The release date, as tipped off by Best Buy, is apparently October 9th, while the same source also indicates that the 8520 will be unreasonably expensive. We’ve no major qualms with the $499.99 non-contract price (other than it’s a rip-off and $200 more expensive than the $299 USD T-Mobile customers pay) but $99.99 on contract when the Pearl Flip 8220 is $9.99? That’s just not right, now is it. Anyway, hit the jump for some screenies.

Thanks, ILLIONAIRE!

Hmm, that price is not good at all. I guess Rogers is trying to trick its customers into thinking that this is a really good phone.

I still refer to this curve as the “budget” blackberry for people that want a blackberry but don’t want to spend much.

    (sorry for the double comment)

My store received the dummy unit for this blackberry, one in a pinkish/purpleish colour, and one in the black you see in the photo. however, I didnt receive any information on a release date or prices with it.

I heard some stores got the dummy unit for the bold 9700 (my stores didnt). I hope the bold 9700 comes out this month, i dont care for this curve 8520. i dont like the feel of the keyboard.

It’s priced high now so it looks like a discount When the price drops for Xmas. Rogers q4 begins late October. Expect a price revamp then

I suppose Rogers is trying to milk every last cent from their customers until Bellus rolls out their GSM network in a month or so when they’ll actually have some competition. But knowing the state of the wireless market up here, all 3 of them will sleep with other to keep prices as high as they are.
