HTC Tilt 2 and HTC Pure get AT&T officialized, Windows Mobile 6.5 style

Listen, it’s not like this official confirmation means too much as you could already buy an HTC Pure starting yesterday, but it’s always nice to have a shiny press release and embargo lift. The HTC Pure and Tilt 2 are AT&T’s very first Windows Mobile 6.5 handsets and feature HTC’s incredible TouchFLO3D UI layered beautifully on top of Windows Mobile. We checked out the Pure in person a little while back and it’s a little different than the stock HTC unit — a tad on the thick side, but with a dark blue case and a pretty angular look, it’s definitely a great touch-based WinMo device. It will run you $149.99 with a two-year contract and the Tilt2 will be available in the “coming weeks” for $299.00 also with a two-year agreement.

So is the HTC Pure going to be coming to other networks other than AT&T? Also, is it just AT&T’s version of the HTC Diamond?

  • BigDaddyM

Does TouchPro2 have a headphone jack? I hope so, I could have just bought the unlocked HTC version, but waited for the AT&T version hoping it would have a headphone jack… I hope I didn’t wait for nothing…

@Will No the HTC Pure will not be coming to other networks. At least not as the pure. Verizon is getting a better version called the Imagio has a bigger screen. 3.6″ compared to 3.2″ of the Pure. They both are variations of the Touch Diamond 2. And also the Pure doesn’t have a 3.5mm jack and the Imagio does. As for the other networks they will be getting their variations of the Touch Diamond 2 but I haven’t heard much about them.

  • Who?

Sprint and T-Mobile do not seem to have plans regarding the Touch Diamond 2, which makes them the only U.S. carriers that have a shot at getting the HTC Leo anytime soon.

I can think of only two reasons to get the Pure over the Imagio, or the Tilt2 over any other network’s variant: 1) service (you might be one of those rare few who gets the best service on AT&T), and 2) You’re big into XDA Developers and know that there will always be developers working on GSM phones, but nothing’s guaranteed with CDMA. And even with those two reasons, the Pure is one ugly phone — why did they need to put a frame around the entire phone to make it bigger and not square? Idiots.

Isn’t everyone else selling the TP2 for $199.99 with 2 yr contract? FAIL!

Looks like I may be switching to Sprint after all.

I guess I’m out of the loop. Does everyone have to have a 3.5mm jack? I guess I never got on the whole MP3 24/7 thingy. I’m not letting the fact the TP2 doesn’t have a 3.5mm jack stop me.
I just want a LARGER screen. I’ve gone from the tilt to the TP (running 6.5 perfectly), and now the TP2 when it finally hits.

The fact the TP2 doesn’t have a headphone jack isn’t going to sway me either. I only listen to music in my car, working out at the gym, or on my home computer. I’d rather not crush my expensive phone with weights when I’m lifting. A nano with an armband works for me. As for the car, I previously had a vehicle with an iPod interface (not so anymore), so I have a 160 GB iPod for that (can’t wait to find a decent non-iPod alternative without all the bells and whistles of an Archos).

Also, I imagine getting a 3.5 adapter isn’t much hassle for those who need it ($10 at everythingHTC.com).

  • Yeah yeah

The Pure is AT&T’s Touch Diamond 2 and is the only carrier slated to have the TD2 for now.

  • NunyaBusiness

BOTH Sprint and VZW DO get a 3.5mm headphone jack for their TP2.

T-mobile does NOT get the 3.5mm jack on their TP2.

This Tilt2 should have been $199 like the others. Since it isn’t, let’s see how it sells. This just looks like another misstep from getting a huge launch.

The Pure really is the Diamond2. Nothing special.

BTW, all TP2 versions except TM’s should have 3.5mm jack.

  • Dexter

why doesnt the UI look the same as the HTC Leo. I thought with the WM 6.5 upgrade it would like that…..this still looks like the old touch flow for WM 6.1

  • Kris

I’m going to touch both today … but what I don’t get is there a reason why GSM phones are lacking the jack? Perhaps CDMA can only get it due to chipset configuration.

  • Who?

Dexter: This is an important point that’s getting lost among all the WinMo 6.5 talk: who cares what version of WM you’re running if you’re using TF3D? What really matters is what version of TF3D you’re using, and the version AT&T is using to skin their WM 6.5 phones is extremely dated. I can’t be sure, but it seems no newer (and could even be older) than the TF3D that’s on the Sprint and Verizon TP2s, which is simply pathetic.

Once the Tilt2 is released someone needs to note which TF3D versions each of the TP2s have and post it. Because that’s really what’s important here.

The whole idea of the 3.5mm Headphone jack is to not have to carry the adapter.

Tilt 2 will launch on October 8th.

  • Who?

I did a little Googling, and it seems that every Touch Pro2, including the Tilt2, comes with TouchFlo3D 2.1. The fact that the Tilt2, which is released after all the others and is the only one released WM6.5 has the same TF3D version as the others is simply unacceptable.

(Yes, I could flash a ROM. Most people won’t.)

  • gtr

    Where did you read that?

  • Chuckjj

Where did you hear that it will be released on the 8th?

  • Dexter

So i was looking around and apparently they say the LEO is using HTCs Sense UI…so now Im just confused, I thought it was the newer TouchFlo3D and I thought Sense was only for android…

I’m not quite sure what 6.5 brings to a device like TP2 running TF3D.

will someone please post a new photo of 6.5 showing how the new Today screen would show you pending items like missed calls/unread texts/emails and pending calendar items?? or explain how it would look any different with an upgrade to 6.5?

I have yet to see how 6.5 shows you what’s going on at a glance without having to make some screen press. 6.1 with or without TF3D shows you all of this info at a glance on the Today screen and I just want to see what this looks like in 6.5.

    thank you.

I think the changes that WM 6.5 brings that will be noticeable in relation to the TouchFlo interface will be:

The lock screen (being able to see/access alerts w/o unlocking).
    The re-organized program grid.
The menus within Windows Mobile outside of TouchFlo.
    The new Marketplace.
    Updated Internet Explorer browser
The ability to get the new Today Screen when TouchFlo is turned off.

OK, people. Ima give you idiotas a run down on this since i have the tilt2 and att pure. The tilt2 comes with TFD2.1 but is updateable to TF3D2.5 or 2.6 from the HTC website. This upgrade is only for the GSM version. So go ATT. Now GSM versions dont have a audio jack because of the chip configurations. Now ATT version is the only one that ships with WM6.5 unlock other that ship wit WM6.1. Go ATT again. Now WM6.5 will look like the picture above on all HTC phones because they put the TF3D interface over it. But u can take it off and have the regular WM6.5 showin but TF3D is better.
