T-Mobile Sidekick users left in the dark as data outage continues

In case you’ve not heard by now, T-Mobile Sidekick users have been trying to live a normal life this weekend while suffering from the ill effects of what surely has to be the be all and end of all of mobile data outages. As it stands, it appears that every single Sidekick user across the country is unable to use any services that pass through Danger’s servers meaning the only thing they’re currently able to do is make calls and send text. Everything from email, IM and, perhaps worst of all, contacts are unavailable. Yesterday T-Mobile promised that it would have services up and running by late evening, but this obviously did not happen which is why our inboxes are being flooded by the suffering. We’re still waiting on an update from T-Mobile on this matter, but rest assured that we’ll let you know what’s going on just as soon as we hear.

Thanks to everyone that sent this in!

Everybody keeps talking about backup sims, understand that all 500+ contacts, notes, apps etc. don’t go onto the sim card so there is no back up. Especially seeing that the information is suppose to be stored on the danger protocol & displayed on your web t-mobile account but WOW! yet we can’t even access that page. T-mobile sux.

Email still down here in Raleigh. One week and counting. The worst part may be the widespread use and loyalty of the Deaf community, who totally depend on their SKs for email contact with the world at large. I really do not think that a 19.99 credit (which is what those of us who have been loyal and long standing customers pay for data)can even begin to compensate for what we are STILL losing. I think TMobile should provide us with different email capable phones. Enough is enough, if MicroDanger is really going to kill the SK, so be it, but don’t take it out on us!!

Yup, a week later and I still haven’t gotten my notes back, or Internet access. I have instant messaging and Facebook, and that’s it.

I got all my e-mail back today. Still no unsaved contacts, or favorites. I have data from back to the Sidekick 2, lost. The only reason I stayed with a sidekick was the data transfer to the new phone, and web backup. Time to shop around for a new phone and service provider.

I run my own personal training business, I store all of my contacts in my phone and constant calls throughout the day to my clients, sponsers, and marketing sources is a must. It’s been like this for a week now. No contacts, and i can’t even get sound alerts when i get text messages. With is complete bullSh***. I called 611 and talked to a customer service representative. He said that my contacts are still in the system, but “we don’t know when you’ll get it back”. …GREAT! thanks t-mobile! You’re definitely someone to rely on.

And on top of that, they are only taking off $40 for data charges. They should take off the whole freakin BILL for the month in my opinion or else your reputation is going to go down the drain and customers are going to get up an go to another service provider who recently has become SO much cheaper than tmobile. I pay in between 90-110$ a month for unlimited service, txt, calls, pics and email. I can get the same thing from verizon for a little cheaper, or cricket/boost mobile for less than HALF the price.

SO, JUST GOT A TXT ABOUT A CRITICAL DANGER UPDATE AVAILABLE… OF COURSE CANT GET IT LOL… SO I WENT TO THE WEBSITE IT TOLD ME AND ALAS, ITS A STATEMENT LETTING US KNOW THAT ALL DATA SUCH AS CONTACTS, CALENDER, NOTES, PICS, AND THE SUCH HAVE ALL BEEN LOST ON THE DATA NETWORK! AND THE LIKELYHOOD OF THEM GETTING THE DATA BACK IS LOW… SO I GUESS THOSE OF US WHO TOOK THE BATT OFF ARE COMPLETELY SHIT OUT OF LUCK…. AFTER THE SOCIAL NETOWRK GLITCH ON TUES AND NOW THIS, PLUS ONLY HAVING INSTANT MESSAGING BACK FOR THE PAST 3 DAYS, IM THINKING MORE THAN THIS RIDICULOUS ONE MONTH DATA SVC CREDIT IS IN ORDER! HONESTLY I THINK THEY NEED TO SEND OUT G1′S OR SOMETHING, SINCE SKS ARE GOING NOWHERE APPEARANTLY….

    I am so extremely pissed!!!!!!!!
Are u fucking kidding me !!!!!!!
All the Notes I had since ’06 all my 300 contacts gone!!! in the year 2009 down servers mean nothing is backed up and there’s no disaster recovery plan! COME ON GIMME A FUCKIN BREAK. I had the sidekick since the B&W I am getting a new phone I might even switch from T-mobile even though there not to blame but they’re still asociated with them. I even got banned from the Danger website for speaking my mind. This is so unacceptable. I think we need to be compensated more than just a free month data charge!!!!!!!

  • Tiffany

I just posted a comment 2 comments ago about my personal training business. I agree with jaytee22..we should defiitely be compensated for more than just “data charges”. i mean, atleast the WHOLE bill. if not a free and better phone.

  • Charles Stepp

Jaytee22, you’ve hit the nail on the head. There is no excuse for an Enterprise to lose customer data anymore. We pay good money each month assuming that some if it used to maintain the implied safety of our data.

I would love to know the Hardware, O/S, and development suite used in their “Server”. Am I the only person freaked out that there might actually only be ONE server (or disk array)storing that stuff.

  • jaytee22

This cleary has to be some sort of inside sabotage!!!!
Didnt Microsoft let go like half of the Danger staff??

It would be a lil conforting in letting us know what exactly happened.
For them to say the servers crashed I am not accepting or believing…Someone put an i’ll virus in their systems or like Charles Stepp said their might be just one server or disk array

I too work for the blackberry/pda/android support and it was a crazy week of calls. Again people bash on tmo and say tht other prvdrs out there are better. Whn something goes down and only eng are capable of getting this shit fix people have to be patient. I understand contacts, data and email was out . But we have the eng working hour after the hour to get this fixed. People are too quick to judge when really they don’t know what’s happening. People focus on the bigger picture and tend to talk shit…lame ..

i have a question for you. i know you work for the tmobile tier 2, but do you personally own a sidekick? If you dont… then you personally dont understand. If you do… then you would be bitching too! trust me… I worked for danger/data card (strictly sidekick) and I didn’t understand why people would complain when service would be out. NOW I do. I personally own a sk 2008 and I love my phone. I started a business and used my tmomail or sidekick email for a contact point. I haven’t been able to receive any of my email regarding my business. I probably lost out on $1000!!! I hope you have an idea now as to why everyone is mad. I can’t have a data device and no service. It just doesn’t work!!! Please be a little more sympathetic to the sidekick users and loyal tmobile customers that pay your bills.

    thanks.

my data is just fine and i have a sidekick and the data plan. in fact, i restarted my phone multiple times during the “outage” and my data is all still there. i mean, i backed it up by copying my numbers and etc. onto an email just in case, but everything is fine with my phone. I actually did not update it though, so maybe that’s why it is ok? not sure. anyways i have the original sidekick lx, the blue one.

It is not T-Mobile who has caused this issue, it’s microsoft/dangers fault that THEIR servers are down

  • Tonez

Nice that u did … trust me i’ve lost stuff that is very important to me. I know how it is, but being that u “used to work for danger” then you would know how to back up your info not only on sim but also to a computer. I imagine you heard it everyday when someone lost their info and u prob did suggest to back up to sim. Now that your in the same picture your upset but coming fr a tech backround its only common sense.

  • Why are people so uneducated?

“It is not T-Mobile who has caused this issue, it’s microsoft/dangers fault that THEIR servers are down”

You people are so annoying. YES, it IS T-Mobile’s fault. They chose to do business with Danger-Microsoft. They chose to rely on their relationship with Danger-Microsoft. I don’t write my check every month to Danger-Microsoft. I write it to T-Mobile. Henceforth, T-Mobile is responsible and it’s their fault.

Did anyone loose app’s that were uninstalled but not discarded? I had so many app’s that I could only load some, at any given time. Now I need to go threw all my old bills to see what that cost me. What about the $100 dollars, they said we MIGHT get, how do we qualify for that.

  • meow

My contacts were not important as my other data. You cannot backup other data to sim. So what about my todo list, organizer, and other items???

  • Tonez…

sorry abt your data situation…last update ive read is that lil by lil things are starting to look good. they said tht they did have a system with back up of contacts…when i don’t have a response to that …go to http://www.t-mobile.com/forums to get updates…my bro had said his pics came back …maybe yours as well..

  • cindy moreno
