Have you spent hours in front of the mirror perfecting that smooth flick of the wrist that flips opens your clamshell and shows off your expensive Rolex at the same time? Is your entry level Motorola flip phone just not making the cut for your debonair lifestyle? Go ahead and do some donuts in your Lamborghini on the front lawn of your estate as Vertu has answered your prayers. The Nokia subsidiary has just introduced the Vertu Ayxta, a Constellation in the clamshell design. The Ayxta has all the traditional styling of the Vertu including a stainless steel chassis with leather and ceramic accents, scratch-free sapphire glass screen, 3.0 megapixel camera with dual LED flash, microSD expansion (up to 8GB) and 3G connectivity. In addition to the traditional Vertu Concierge service, the Ayxta will include a new feature, City Brief, which alert owners of points of interest, events and etiquette when travelling in one of the 70 supported cities. The Vertu Ayxta is available at locations worldwide for €4,900 ($7,196USD) and €6,500 ($9,545USD).

And here I was thinking of picking up an Aprilia bike for 12k but I might as well just get this phone so I can be cool like Paris Hilton. Wait, she does own a Bentley Coupe though, D’oh!

Wow, nice phone!! Cheaper than my TI knurled by a few $$$ but looks like it has the s attributes, which is very cool!! Wish there was more pictures of it.
Think I will wait and go for the S, can always downgrade in the future!
BTW I have had these phones for years and they just rock!! Every level, they have saved my sorry butt in many countries!
    Enjoy!!

Say what you will about the looks of Vertus, they’re always really f’ing solid and I’m sure this will be no exception, even with the new form factor (just look at that hinge!).

Vertu is a fashion brand, and flips are still considered more fashionable than bar phones (especially in the States!) so I’m sure this will serve them well. Vertu’s target market should like it just fine, and it may even get them some new customers.

It feels like a pretty big concession from parent company Nokia, though – it’s like they’re finally admitting that flip phones are equal to bar phones. (You’ll recall that Nokia was incredibly late to the flip phone game, and that Nokia’s high-end 8000 Series still features nothing but bar phones, with sliding keyboard covers.)

$7000.00 come on! I would like to see the build cost. What, was it made by watch makers?

  • Mike

Actually, YES — Vertu does employ craftsmen from the watch making industry. Makes sense to pay $7k or more for a fine handcrafted watch. Why not a handcrafted phone? :)
