Just a quick little reminder to all of you who are going about your lives rocking an iPhone from AT&T — MMS will go live today. AT&T hasn’t yet put out a press release bragging about MMS finally touching down but according to a blurb on its Facebook page from a few days ago, it should go live by this afternoon on the East Coast:

MMS Update: We know you’ve been eager for this service so we wanted to offer a quick update on the launch plans for MMS on Friday, Sept. 25. Late morning, Pacific Time, on Friday, the new carrier settings update enabling MMS should be live and ready to download through iTunes. We’ll provide the steps and all of the details you need right here at that time.

Who is going to help us try to crash AT&T’s servers by sending hundreds of photos and videos once MMS goes live?

    I still don’t get ‘why MMS’. What are its limitations, if any? I have it included on my Sprint Data Everything, but never use it because I just don’t know how well it works for the recipient.

    If I send a 1Mb picture (videos too?) from my 3.2MP BlackBerry Tour as MMS to either a dumbphone or smartphone, does it send a 1Mb file to the recipient does it overload/crash their phone or does it squash it down to a useless thumbnail?

    Then I suspect I’ll prolly be asked to just send it to their GMail…

    Well I got MMS in Alabama. Already sent 3 pictures…probably another 20 min and AT&T servers will crash.

    @Blackberry Bold
    I know that but my point is “IF” they want to keep it. They’ll have to do a lot more to their network and give Apple a good amount of $ to keep it going.

    @Scott
    MMS servers are part of their network infrastructure, so, yes if there servers can’t handle the load – the end users will notice it as if the network can’t handle the load.

    @josh ward,

    The new desperate need will be tethering. Thats my guess for the new crying game. Thoughts?
