AT&T’s BlackBerry Bold OS 4.6.0.297 is alive, possibly for longer than a week this time

Software

We wanted to give AT&T’s latest OS for the BlackBerry Bold some time to breathe before announcing it to our readers yet again. Can you blame us? As you may recall, AT&T first released this new OS on August 25th and then pulled it a week later due to a “software issue affecting the interaction between the device and network enhancements being deployed.” Hopefully this time around we’re in it for the long haul and readers who weren’t quick enough to snag 297 last time around can now start enjoying visual voicemail like everyone else. Remember, once you’ve upgraded your OS, you can avoid dealing with CS by activating visual voicemail yourself. Well, Bold owners, what are you waiting for?

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Another possibility is that the Bold you have is loaded with the previous maintenance release from AT&T (4.6.0.167) — that version removed the wireless update option, but AT&T restored it with this latest version.

    I had the same “problem.”

Just follow the read link and download, and make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager Installed, its a pretty straight forward install. Pretty large, almost 100mb. It does take some time though, so be prepared for alot of waiting or have something else to do during.

It would have been easier if you are using something better than my like 7 year old Vaio. but it did the job.

Any idea about which package version offered by AT&T provides a Japanese language input option for the Bold?

AT&T’s answers are BS. This is a provisioning issue that is easily resolved. Go to Settings, then Options, then Advanced Options, then Service Books. Look for one called “Provisioning (OTASL)” and delete it. Then, hit the menu key (blackberry key) and choose undelete. Then go to you will be able to find wireless upgrade at the end of the list. You amy need to exit out and come back in to see it. rrh

I have a Bold and it has been replaced twice. I purchased it from AT&T on July 27th. Every few days it would crash and say “uncaught exception”. I could get no help from AT&T and each time they changed the phone they made it worse. Finally I PAID RIM to help me on line. It took 5 days – 3 tech and then they got it fixed. But many applications were missing and they charged me $50.00. Yesterday it crashed again, same message and they insist that there is nothing wrote but not my phone app is gone! Any suggestions for me?
