Nokia N900 to hit US distribution centers on September 27th

Get those credit cards ready, Nokia fans. According to a notice reportedly sent out to several US distributors, Nokia’s first Maemo phone is scheduled to hit Nokia distribution centers on September 27th — just under two weeks from today. Assuming the communique is real and Nokia can manage to stay on target, we could see the N900 begin to ship to customers via distributors within the first few days of October. Though it’s not a surprise, the lofty $650 MSRP is sure to leave a sour taste in some mouths but if you want to be among the first to own a T-Mobile 3G-ready Maemo 5 handset, the early adopter tax is unavoidable. Hit the jump for the alleged notice to distributors.

It is 600$ on Mobilecity – 100$ cheaper then when N97 came out. Some sites cell N97 for ~500$ now. So should I expect N900 to be ~400$ phone for Christmas?!!! Or will they keep the prices high, like on the tablets?

  • NokiaRobster

I hope they release ATT 3g version, once the price comes down and nokia fixes all the problems the beta testers, i mean early adopters, find.

    I’m happy with my n82 and e71 and 5800.

Gonna piss some people off… but I’m gonna stick with the n97. Once you learn the quirks, the n97 is a great phone.

My main concern is battery life on the N900. I think is has a 1300ah battery with the same chipset as the iphone. The iphone battery is ~1100-1200 and i have heard horror stories. Plus the lack of the 850 band is a deal breaker and the fact n97 set me back a few benjamins.

Those who get it, let us know how it goes!

I look at Nokia N900 news from Google 5-6 times a day to find any word on 3G support for AT&T … T-Mobile is not even an option for me, since there is no 3G in central Arkansas …

It has 850, just get a crap phone with a slower processor if you want more battery

the n97 was a big disappointment for me. however, it was my first smartphone and now that i’ve had a taste i am so unsatisfied with my dumbphone. i’ve already preordered the n900 and the wait sucks. nokia claims that the battery life will last one whole day with the usage of all its features and i find that perfectly acceptable if that holds true.

  • BCL400

There is the AT&T version of the N900 available for pre order here…

Does this means soon nokia will announce an 850/1900/2100 WCDMA N900?

If your going to buy one unlocked for use with ATT edge, when Tmobile 3G comes to your area, your golden.

I work in Mira Loma, Ca! Wonder what warehouse!? LoL!

Yeah I agree, it’s never good to buy expensive smartphones like the N900/N97 on impulse, because it’s a sure thing that within 4-6 months the prices always goes down. New software updates are available. Heck, theres even a Netflix app available (for free) for the N97, I think that’s pretty cool. I’m not too sure how willing I am to spend this much right now, I have some very hefty & important goals I’m working on right now. And I’m very, very happy with my N95, only exception is I’d like to have a keyboard. I do like the way the white N97 looks a lot!!!!!! It’s a very, very good looking handset. I really don’t get what the deal is with the lesser capacity battery on the N900, I really don’t!!! These smartphones need to have a MINIMUM of 1500mah’s. See how much OT I can get my hands on, but right now I’m holding out.

    @BCL400
Brilliant find. Could those be typos? To my knowledge, the N900 will not work with AT&T 3G.

If those specs are legit, then color me ecstatic.

  • linuxfan

Sorry to disappoint you. The mobilecity site does not say 3G on AT&T. 3G (WCDMA) is tri-band of which only US freq is 1700 used by T-mobile. The (E)GSM bands are not 3G. they are Edge. Those of us on At&T just have to hope they sell well enough in the US to convince Nokia to come out with 850/1900 WCDMA (AT&T) version.

  • davis

Yeah, I see that now that you point it out. Got a little excited there and let the details elude me.

Looks like I’m going to ride this out on AT&T Edge until Tmo 3G comes to my area.

Either way, there is plenty to love about this device even if you don’t have 3G to go along with it.

  • linuxfan

Great news. the US version will most likely have AT&T 3G. Take a look at Amazon’s description for the N900 at

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002OB49SW/ref=ox_ya_os_product

Clearly states that 3G bands will be 850/1900/2100 which means 3G on AT&T. If true this is great news for those on AT&T. Not so good news for T-mobile, but I guess those folks can buy the T-mobile version from expansys

  • Venera

Why is everybody talking about US version? There is no such thing when it comes to Nokia N900. There is only one version at the moment and that is quad-band (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) for 2G, and tri-band (900/1700/2100 MHz) for 3G.
Don’t be fouled and get overcharged for something that is no different than the original one. It’s simply a marketing strategy to rip off people who knows very little about wireless communication system.

  • Jason

I was extremely interested in this device till I contacted Nokia’s customer service. Please do not get me wrong. The device is great, but lacks some critical features to me.

    1) It does not support MMS (SMS and IM messaging support only)

    2) It can not serve as a data modem via Bluetooth (it can via a USB cable)

    3) It does not support T-Mobile’s HotSpot@Home WiFi/UMA service (no WiFi voice calling but it supports VoIP voice calling)

    4) Landscape and portrait modes support voice calling ONLY (no accelerometer support for NO other application)

  • worldfamous718

Does not support MMS….unbelievable!! what a powerhouse, i hope that fix that b4 production release…I am fully prepared to receive this as a gift when it comes out..lol. And who knows which applications will support the webcam that it has on the front? I know Tmobile doesnt have any webchat services available right now. Im just lookin for the ultimate business phone…right now im runnin windows 6.1 on a tmobile 3g TP2…so far so good…is it worth the switch??

  • sommerl

(It does not support T-Mobile’s HotSpot@Home WiFi/UMA service (no WiFi voice calling but it supports VoIP voice calling)

Are you sure about this? T-Mobile does not have very good coverage at my house. I use UMA for both voice and data.
Not having UMA would be a deal breaker for me.

  • Jak Crow

Sept 27th has come and gone with nothing from any retailer. Looks like the phone has been delayed.
