Rumor

WinMo fans, we hope you’re sitting down — the long rumored HTC Leo has finally been pictured in the wild. The rather large and boxy handset is shown rocking Windows Mobile 6.5 above a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 512MB ROM/320MB RAM, camera with dual LED flash and a huge 4.3-inch 800×480 touchscreen display. We already knew most of the specs of course but it’s still nice to see them live and in the flesh. So what do you think, is this offering from HTC a beauty or a beast? Hit the jump if you need to see a few more snapshots before you make your decision.

Thanks, Ike!

65K display… and there goes those 4.3″ in to waste!!!

BTW 1 GHz CPU (it’s actually frequency of the core, not graphics and DSP parts) don’t mean nothing if OS isn’t adequately optimized!

And let me remind you that Snapdragon isn’t ARM 11, or Cortex-A8 based chip!!! It uses Qualcomm’s own RISC core, and so far ALL mobile phone OSs have been optimized for some form of ARM architecture!

So, 600 MHz Cortex-A8 could very likely wipe the floor with 1 GHz Snapdragon!

I would need to hold this phone in my hand. I’m often surprised how a phone will feel in my hands after seeing so often on the web. There comes a point when a phone will feel too large in my hands. The source website states that this phone has a capacitive screen. Since WM supports this function, do programs also need to be programmed to use the capacitive screen? If so, I can’t imagine many programs in the near future that would use this feature. If not, cool.

Oh how Palm Pre How I love You and the superb WebOS But if Sprint gets this I may have to retire you to the kitchen draw.

Maybe not, but I’d think about it.

Give it a portrait T9 keypad that can swivel to landscape, add Maemo OS, a Carl Zeiss or Hasselblad lens with 12 mp sensor, and its my dream device.

Either way, HTC is finally taking off the gloves. This thing is pretty and sleek.

Well, PocketNow (which ran a blurb about WM being able to use capacitive screens) is reporting that the screen might be resistive. Still too early to tell. Since this phone was rumored as far back as July, what is the average time frame from rumor to release? I’m liking the faster processor, but wish there was more phone memory space.

    Interesting phone.

Does anyone know if this has a capacitive screen?

  • Bob

Well, it would be harder to use with one hand, because on the iphone my finger can reach everywhere with one hand… but this.. even tho it looks amazing.. looks a little bit too big. But im not going to make any judgments until i see it myself

I think I gotta open a smartphone business. Where I mean I will have to expand my current operation

I’ve given up all my cells -including the HTC Pro, the Pre, waiting for this LEO.

I may be totally wrong on my view of the size issue. But here goes. I figure that the width plus the thickness multiplied by two will give you an idea how this phone will feel in your hand. So:

    TyTN II 2.3 + (.7×2) = 3.7 (My current phone)
    iPhone 2.4 + (.5×2) = 3.4
    Leo 2.6 + (.4×2) = 3.4

So if the iPhone feels OK, I’m guessing the Leo will too. And does an extra 0.3″ in length make it that much less pocket-able than the iPhone? Sure, we’d all like a smaller phone, but I’m certainly still looking forward to getting my hands on one of these.

@ Nedjo: You’re an idiot! First learn how to speak correctly “don’t mean nothing” the correct way would be “doesn’t mean anything”! Do you do anything else other than talk about your iPhone? You make iPhone user look like idiots!

ignore them, Nedjo. They talk like cowards, but they won’t say it to your face. B..ches always do that.

They’re are bullies, they’re are children, they’re are those that no everything (teenagers). They’re are three levels, adult, parent, child, eye to eye is adult to adult, parent to to parent etc. any other level brings conflict.
We are here to enjoy the news with all this site brings.
The leo is an improvement but it too shall grow.

  • The Devil

Does anyone have an inkling to who the carrier might be ?

  • Pedro

I’m interested also to know what might the carrier be.
