Motorola CLIQ getting an early release on T-Mobile in October?

Exclusive

moto-cliq

While Motorola announced a “before-the-Holiday” release time frame for the Motorola CLIQ, we’ve been able to confirm that units will be shipping out to T-Mobile corporate stores, warehouses/fulfillment centers on or around September 29th. Do you know what that means? We’ve been told that the Motorola CLIQ will pop it’s head out for a mid-October launch on T-Mobile. We don’t have pricing details at the moment, but you can bet your bippy it will won’t be above $199 with a 2-year, possibly lower. We’re working on getting supporting materials, but this is pretty much a go!

Thoughts?

See….Now that is much better then this cloaked in secrecy stance that is seemed both Moto and TMo had at the keynote. This should certainly kick the tires and light the fires with the other carriers….Hmm….Hero on Sprint Oct 11th, or wait for the CLIQ which should be hot on its heels….Decisions…Decisions….Get ready for a hot and heavy holiday shopping season people

Looks nice, bet it’s kinda think (maybe like HTC tp2)

Not sure I understand the need for the huge d-pad. Since it’s a touch screen I’d think that it’d be easier to just scroll and click on the screen. Without the d-pad, the keys could have been larger.

Did you miss Engadget’s screenshot of the contract price? It was $0 and $400 off contract.

  • grrr

    sholes

  • Michael

Um, didn’t an article already go around saying that the Cliq would be free on contract and $400 unlocked?

Im close with a few people that work for TMobile and they have info on the Phone. And its states that pre order will start on october 19!! cant wait that long want it ASAP

@blah Editing texts and typing web addresses are much easier using the d-pad. Also if I’m using the phone in the open position it would feel awkward to move my hand up to the screen every time I wanted to scroll as opposed to keeping my hand in a natural position.

I’ll take T-Mo over Sprint. both have small networks but GSM you can talk on the phone and do data at the same time. CDMA once you start talking, data is off

T-Mobile is rolling out 3G like crazy. By the holiday shopping season they should cover around 200 million pops.Consider that with the phones coming out on T-Mobile, they are doing much better than they did last year.

  • lewdachris

if tmo wants their mytouch to sell, they want to have a 179 price tag for the cliq

Great news.. Hopefully presale will be in a couple of weeks..

T-Mobile is also upgrading it’s 3G network to 7.2 Mbps this year and will launch 21 Mbps next year. HSPA + technology, if implemented properly can work extremely well.

ATT had a hard time (and still is) having to juggle two bands for 3G (850/1900 MHz). T-Mobile has clean AWS spectrum to play with.

DT is also promising billions of euros in US investment next year so finally they are starting to take their US subsidiary seriously. About freaking time! They know they have to build out their licenses too or face losing them.

I must say that the CLIQ looks way better now than it did when the original “Morrison,’ pics leaked out. That phone looked toyish. This one looks solid and the Motoblur UI looks very fun and intuitive.

It should mesh nice along with TMo USA’s handset lineup. The specs are decent for a phone of its caliber unless you are the most hardcore among us.

This outta sell well. I’ll probably pick one up myself.

All the carriers are jockeying for position….All this news is great for the consumer because of the choices and lowering of costs on plans and phones….They are trying desperately to upstage one another which sure as sh*t is funny to watch play out…I for one can’t wait for the next few months to see what happens…. An effective marketing strategy for the CLIQ will no question stop people from jumping on the Hero wagon for Spint….Add a really low cost for the device to boot….WIn-Win in my opinion

As a couple posters have noted, the BEST evidence available to date (the temporarily “leaked” T-Mobile web page for it) is the Cliq will be free with contract.

Why are so many sites pushing the $99-$199 price instead?

Simple disbelief that Motorola could actually be pricing this correctly for the intended target market?

  • glyco

wow, free with contract…you just can not beat that. i hope that’s what the deal is, i’m likely going to pick this baby up. no way on verizon sholes, just can’t go back to CDMA. i think i’m going to make this my new phone.

@ blah : The d-pad is for gaming. It will be useful for other things in the browser, but gaming is the main function.

@ Gauntlet Down: The reason why many of us are suspecting the $99-$199 price is because it just doesn’t make sense to give the phone for free w/contract. Don’t get me wrong, I would love that, but the G1 is $179 w/contract and the Mytouch is $199 ($99 for limited time) w/contract. Since the Cliq is much better speced than the G1 and has more functionality than the Mytouch, it only makes sense that they will charge customers for it, so they do not lose sales with the other Android phones. Of course it would be a wonderful and welcome surprise if the $0 w/contract turned out to be true! I can’t wait for this phone!!

Well, am very surprised to see such a good device from Motorola. I really thought Motorola was gone as far as cell phone handsets are concerned. I just might even get this phone when it comes out, mainly the issues of the T-mobile G1 with memory and battery.

  • Ashley

I for one am very excited about this phone! It would be awesome or you are right and it launches in mid October!!

  • tax

    Looks exactly like Morrison.

  • Rusty Wallace Grommit

The lineage from the comeback might suggest the Cliq *might* have a lower data plan, perhaps the $9.99 web2go? .. but that feels too good to be true. Any spy reports on the data plan options for the Cliq?

  • Sultry Kitten

I like this phone alot! Was going to get the BB 8520, and now I am glad I didn’t. I can’t wait, I just wish there were more color choices.
