Verizon makes the HTC Touch Pro2 official; September 11th, $199.99

It’s official, Verizon fans — one of the sexiest Windows Mobile handsets to launch this year can be yours starting tomorrow. Just like we exclusively scooped last week, the HTC Touch Pro2 will be available tomorrow, September 11th for $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate on a 2-year contract. While $200 is a substantial amount of money of course, it looks like peanuts compared to the insane $349.99 Sprint and T-Mobile are asking. Customers looking to score a Pro2 from Sprint or Tmo shouldn’t despair just yet though — Verizon’s insanely competitive pricing will likely clear the early adopter tax from both carrier’s offerings relatively quickly. If you’re a Verizon customer however, there’s no need to wait. Anyone planning on snagging one of these bad boys tomorrow?

UPDATE: For those asking below, Verizon has confirmed to us that the Touch Pro2 will be $489.99 off contract.

Thanks, Jason!

    @jimmy – if your palm contacts are synced to Outlook, you should be fine. If not, I am not sure how to get them over. Google for some apps to sync Palm to Google or something, that might help. I run Outlook, so I am all set.

    @everyone – If you are having trouble ordering online or want to order over the phone, and you want top notch service, call Jared at 888-924-7934 x 7834. Yes, I told him I was doing this and he was cool with it. I put him in my Outlook contacts for the next time I upgrade a phone. He now has a customer in me for a long time to come.

    OK Don, paying more for less. Sure. Sprint ranks last in almost every category for every region, yet Verizon ranks top for almost every category in every region. Hey, I didn’t do the survey, just reporting the facts.

    I mean, just look at the customer ratings on LetsTalk.com or any other number of websites.

    Verizon: 3.3/5.0
    T-Mobile: 3.1/5.0
    AT&T: 2.7/5.0
    Sprint: 2.7/5.0

    We could go on with the debate forever, but Verizon isn’t the company that lost over a million subscribers in 1Q09, and even lost 257,000 in the first quarter of their “revolutionary” Pre availability! Meanwhile, Verizon added 1.3 million subscribers during that same quarter. Hmm, wonder where they came from???

    Sorry to ask again, no one answered.

    Does the $29.99 VZW Data Plan allow one to sync outlook exchange emails/contacts/etc?
    I’m currently using a Blackberry on BES and it would be nice to save 10 or so bucks a month for the lower plan.

    I never go by reports/surveys because personal experience beats all, what bothers me is how this site is full of Sprint bashing with no actual reference point. Any of the vzw faithful that are so quick to point out there great service ever use Sprint in the last 3 years w/a phone that has good reviews, if so you will eat a little crow because you’ll find out coverage pretty much mirror or is better throughout the country. Sonya if you reside in a rural area your statements may ring true but if it’s a metro area I’ll have to call the assessment a fib. ckeegan, to put your post in perspective those same surveys had Sprint at 1 or 2 throughout the country when the last report came out and this sites Carrier Wars has Sprint on top.

  • ckeegan

    sorry about that don, I thought surveys were based on personal experience. I must have been mistaken. feel free to go to the other tech blogs, where Sprint isn’t rated worst for customer service, call quality, or coverage, and where they don’t report that they’re losing subscribers on a daily basis. yeah, those exist.

  • C is for …..

    @Don

    That is great if Sprint is increasing coverage in metro areas; however, eventually some people may actually want to leave the city area and use their phone. Whats the point of having cellular service if you can’t take it everywhere you go? Sprint use to be the baddest company around, but lets face it so was Motorola. They may have sparks of hope, but they have ruined there image (bad customer service and aweful coverage outside metro areas) to the point that it will never be forgiven completely.

    To quote you,”personal experience beats all”.
    If someone says they had a problem with Sprint that is their “personal experience”. That beats all doesn’t it?

    ckeegan, this can go on forever. In JD Power’s last report Sprint was 1 or 2 and I was quick to tout that, which was my mistake, now they’ve fallen to last with no reports of outages like the other carriers recently and like I said my personal experience say way different. I’m not saying don’t get what works for you, just that you shouldn’t discount a deal because someone else says it’s bad w/o some recent personal reference point. I personally think all the carriers are after what’s in our wallets/purses just that Sprint is less obtrusive, less restrictive and way more inclusive which thier Everything and now AnyMobile initiative shows. Sure you can get a hot smartphone on vzw for cheap but what you’ll pay monthly to own it won’t be, that $150 extra paid to Sprint will be gotten back in 3-5 months once you factor in data/messaging w/o even counting nav and none of thier smartphones do thier native tv/radio. I’ve been all over the country while dwelling in the supposedly bad mid-west and can’t complain that’s why I take Sonya’s claim w/a grain of salt because that is contradictory to my experiences and I use 2 4 year old phones and 2 that are less than a year old regularly

    @Walnuts

    No, you need to have the 34.99 data plan which includes wireless sync to be able to exchange sync contacts/calendar/mail/tasks/etc.

  • Don Louie Cantone

    Let’s compare the cheapest smartphone/RIM plan avialable thru Sprint and Verizon which would be $40 for 450 minutes w/unlimited data and messaging:

    Verizon: + $30 for data + $20 for messaging ( still the same w/Select bundle) and for good measure add $10 for nav unless you taking advantage of them finnaly unlocking GPS comes to $90 or $100 w/nav

    Sprint: + $30 for Pro pack that includes messaging, nav, tv and radio or you could just get the Everthing paln but you could also get the Messaging for $50 and get a $15 Data Basic and save $50 because yoou don’t want nav but you won’t get the MIR w/o at least a $25 data paln making the Everything plan the best thing going
