Android-powered Samsung i5700 Galaxy Lite gets poked and prodded on video

Rumor

Despite the fact that Android is only available on a few handsets at this point, that isn’t stopping manufacturers from adopting a new strategy with Android. Initially, Android found its way to a handful of high-end phones but manufacturers across the board seem anxious to get Android onto more accessible handsets. Next in line: the Samsung i5700 Galaxy Lite. The release version likely won’t be quite as loud as this prototype but if you can work your way past the lime green you’re looking at a pretty solid little handset. Spec highlights include a full AMOLED touchscreen display, 1GB of storage, a 3.2 megapixel camera (no flash) and Wi-Fi. Not bad, not bad — definitely more capable than other upcoming budget Android phones we’re seeing take shape, though pricing is still a mystery. While we wait for the details to get ironed out, hit the jump and enjoy a quick hands-on video courtesy of ai.rs blog

Why is it every carrier is using Android for their budget/economy/value brand phones? Can we get a flagship Android phone please? Sure the G1 was great and all but thats old news. The Sholes would be great if it ever makes its way into existence. I just want to know when a carrier is going to actually embrace “the awesome power of Android” that all the fanboys speak of.

So why did it go on a diet?

@ ddhsh: Its not bad but its still not WOW. Stats wise I give an “ehh” at best.

“Lite” phones are great for sales but make an OS look weak if not thrown in a device that can take advantage of it.

the hero is high end android device. sprint was gracious enough to offer it to you all cheap under contract. if you buy it unlocked and sim free you would have to put out at least 500us. now would you buy it at that price?

that’s why nokia hasn’t made that much of the american market penetration because their smartphones weren’t made available on contract until recently with the e71x. most americans do not want to spend so much money on phones.

you guys should be happy to get android devices cheap because when it really comes down to it, you are getting great software and hardware at an affordable price.
