Verizon Wireless Touch Pro2 to land September 11th, $199.99

Exclusive

As if an Android handset and a couple of Blackberry handsets weren’t enough, Verizon Wireless customers may have yet another handset coming quickly down the pike. A trusted ninja let us know that VZW’s Touch Pro2 is slated to launch on September 11th for $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and the obligatory 2-year contract. If this is in fact the case, and we have no reason to doubt it, it will be a massive slap in the face to both Sprint and T-Mobile as each of their Pro2s bear a $350 price tag. Wow. Go and revel this long Labor Day weekend, Verizon fans — and when the week is out, don’t forget to hit Big Red for a brand spanking new TP2.

Thanks, goldciv!

    You said:
Have you even tried Sprint, you will save more $ and get more add ons?

    Don, you confused non-cellular professional.

While it’s true that the AT&T Tilt 2 will cost more, the sprint version, the sprint version will DEFINITELY NOT have more bells, whistles, features, gadgets and add-ons than AT&T’s Tilt 2 will have.

And, Don, that information didn’t come from AT&T. I spoke personally with the head I.T. Guy at HTC American facility. I’m in the industry; and I have been since before the FCC had even issued type approval for the cellular radio service. Back in the days of MTS and IMTS.

Standard & Poors also rates Sprint’s coverage / service as one of the poorest in the country.

Keep your sprint wanna be Touch Pro 2.

I’d rather wait for “The REAL THING” It’s the only Touch Pro 2 slated to have every possible feature that HTC designed into it, for it.

Have as great of a sprint day as incompletely possible.

I can’t believe a cellular professional is saying any att phone will come with more than a Sprint one. If that is the case, highly unlikely, it will cost you more to access those capabilities on a crappier network but to each thier own. You and your IT guy have to be diehard GSM guys to be believing att is beating anybody, let alone Sprint, in either data or voice and definitely price or openess

Don, my non-perceptive master – debater:
I said all along that it would cost more on the AT&T network. You get what you pay for; and I don’t mind paying more for a higher level of quality; and a higher level of completeness.
AND, confused, un-informed Don, Sprint / Nextel is fighting for the lowest class of service (as per the FCC) in the country; as of the end of the last fiscal quarter.

Don, you’re really needing to read what I wrote. I NEVER said that it was my I.T. Guy. I said that the I.T. Department head at HTC was commenting on the allocated resources of the HTC device. And, Don, what reason would an HTC I.T. Guy have to lie or to misrepresent? The handsets are all manufactured and are already in a distribution cue. Plus, he’s an I.T. Department head, and NOT a salesman. The AT&T handset will cost more. I’m not now and not in the future debating that. It will have any and every (in other words “ALL”) feature and / or gadget that HTC designed for the handset, before the other carriers (like sprint), who wanted to sell the handset for less, so they had features and device services removed – in order to facilitate a lower ticket price per unit.

So, it appears to me that even though you’re debating with me, by the mere fact that you praise sprint for selling the handset for less, you’re actually acknowledging that it has less features than the AT&T Tilt 2.

    Networks?

In the markets that I operate within (NY / NJ / PA / DE, no carrier has a more saturated umbrella pattern than AT&T. It’s a fact. Not knowing where your market is, I can NOT debate that which I am not knowledgeable of.

BUT, that doesn’t seem to stop you.

    Have a blissful day . . .

    Kinmont,

I’m very happy for you that you got such an excellent handset for such an excellent price. I’m almost jealous.

    BUT . . .

I used to have Verizon Wireless, for 11 years, till they nickle & dimed my family plan from $130.00 a month to $270.00, with no reasonable explanation, when I questioned them on it. Matter a fact, I invited them to take me to court for early contract withdrawl; and I told their chief counsel that I’d counter sue for deceptive business practice and deceptive business practice. I even involved the United States Securities and Exchange Department.

    BUT, I digress.

You have a “Beyond Excellent Handset”. And, since we have different carriers, I’ll have mine, by Mid-October.

Cliffy44, you delusional fool, there is nothing good about any GSM network other than you can exchange compatible phones with a switch of a SIM. You talk of att being better in that area is laughable at best and your email tells all, an att puppet who is spreading lies in a vzw story. There is no HTC phone on att out now or in the part that had better specs than the other carriers rendition but keep holding on to that

Cliffy’s reply: Don, My mom (and your mom also) told me that when you didn’t know what you’re talking about, you should keep your mouth closed and don’t confirm to the world, that you’re a blooming idiot. Good thing that your mom didn’t keep her mouth closed. But, it’s too bad that you ignored her.

Cliffy’s reply: Don, My AT&T Fuze (HTC Touch Pro) is better than whatever handset you have. I guarantee that it’ll do more than your current piece of tobacco / nicotine stained crap that you call a phone (and I call a handset).
And, in less than a month, you feeble-minded moron, the AT&T Tilt 2 (HTC Touch Pro 2) with all the extras designed for possible inclusion into the TP2 will make your handset look like a mercy-hump phone.
And, somehow, I just know that you’re familiar with the phrase “Mercy-Hump”.

I could give half a crap about another person’s opinion of me, would really like you to detail what the Tilt or Fuze can do that the Mogul or Touch Pro 2 can’t and while at clue the world in on how much more superior the Tilt 2 will be than the CDMA counterpart. I have read no good things about any GSM network other than the speeds they can attain with promised upgrades that are trickling in now only to airports in large markets so they can ride the WiFi wave but call quality still sucks. In one of your post you complained about being nickeled and dimed by vzw but if you say that’s not happening at att you really are delusional

Cliffy44 Reply: We share the non-complacentness of not caring about what others think, say or write about us; as I could also care less. BUT, Don, you’re showing that you’re really NOT on top of the handset evolution. The AT&T Fuze (HTC Touch Pro) is the predecessor for the AT&T Tilt 2 (HTC Touch Pro 2). The Touch Pro 2 will far outweigh the features and functionalities of the Touch Pro. I never thought or implied that the TP was superior to the TP2; no matter which carrier is offering / marketing it.

Cliffy44 Reply: Again (actually for the 4th time), I am only going by what the HTC I.T. Department head told me when he said that any and every feature conceived for the Touch Pro 2 will be incorporated into the AT&T version called the Tilt 2. IF this is not the truth, I’m only going by what someone who would have absolutely no reason to lie and / or to misrepresent about.

Don Louie Cantone Said: In one of your post you complained about being nickeled and dimed by vzw but if you say that’s not happening at att you really are delusional
Cliffy44 Reply: Don, I’m not saying that AT&T isn’t one of the higher priced rip-off artists. Because, until the possible FCC intervention, AT&T is amongst the top dollar figure billers. What I meant by my comment, after 11 years with Verizon Wireless / Bell Atlantic Mobile Service was the fact that when I opted to go with 2 LG Voyager handsets, my “Family Plan” was $130.00. I went on auto-pay; because it was easier. One day wifey questioned a download that we were billed for; that she saw on the “My Verizon” page; and when I saw that my $130.00 plan had slowly been escalated to $285. When I questioned them, they said that it was this or that tax that was added here and there.
At that point (and it was a Friday), I told them that by the end of the weekend that I was going to be with AT&T; and I invited them to take me to court to collect the early termination fee; as I had an agenda for my court appearance.
They never ever bothered me again; as they know what I do for a living.

AT&T? – I know I’m paying premium dollar. BUT, it’s the price that I contracted and signed up for. It hasn’t gone up; and the roll-over minutes work wonders for me; as I spend a lot of time on the phone with my VoIP customers.

And, after reading this post to you, it does seem that (dare I say this) that you & I share a number of similarities.

I meant to post, list any differences between the Tilt/Fuze and the Mogul/Touch Pro. A vague reference by some nameless IT guy is by no means evidence that the Tilt 2 is superior than the Touch Pro 2 so next time you talk to him ask for some clues. Now the Touch Pro 2 is only better looking, IMHO, than the original but still has the same functionality so your knowledge of phones is not up to snuff either. Now what is it that the GSM version of any U.S. HTC can do that the CDMA counterpart can’t? On a side note, I bet you and your wife would have a more than sufficient experience with voice/data on Sprint and save loads of money at the same time.

Cliffy 44 Reply: I wasn’t familliar with the Mogul, because as far as I’m concerned, from what I was told and from my extensive research, on-line, the AT&T Tilt2 is recognized as the single best business related handset available in the world; as it’ll not be of avail, until after Windows Mobile 6.5 is released.

Cliffy44 Reply: Perhaps you’re correct; and / or I am. In all honesty, that’s still to be seen; and as soon as I get my Tilt 2, you must already know that I’m going to scrutinize it and it’s abilities way more than they did in the following link. (and read on, after the link):

    http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/AT-T-Tilt-2-phone-c_684-pa_3712.html

My HTC IT.T. Guy hasn’t returned my call today.

I spoke with some other I.T. Guy at AT&T’s corporate office, in Bedminster new Jersey. He told me (accurate or not? – I dunno) that the only feature that the Tilt2 won’t have is the earphone and the headphone jack. That contradicts the information in the link above BUT, my Fuze had an adapter to convert from the mini-USB to both a headphone jack and to an earphone jack. I use neither; as Bluetooth rules.

Bottom line is anyone can tell me anything. AND, I can tell anyone anything. When I get my Tilt 2, I will do a super critical review. And, integrity is VERY important to me.

In the two most recent JDPowers surveys, the August study on customer satisfaction and the August study on call quality, Sprint comes in pretty much at the bottom.

  • Don Louie Cantone

I never put much stock in those surveys because it doesn’t reflect a true experience and the results before the recent one Sprint had at 1 or 2 throughout the nation so how it could fall that far in a quarter with no reports of trouble is a lot skewed.

  • Cliffy44

Don, here are a few authoritative writeups and web sites pertaining to how the carriers are doing, as far as John & Jane Doe are concerned, at the present time.
So, after reading all of this and surfing the sites, tell me again how you think Sprint is doing.

    http://cell-phone-providers-review.toptenreviews.com/

    Why Cell Phones?
Let’s face it: cell phones are just about a necessity in today’s busy world. Whether you use your cell phone to ask your spouse what to get at the grocery store or to conduct international business, these handy devices have become an integral part of mainstream society.
While there’s no doubt that cell phones are useful, figuring out the best service provider and plan can be a nightmare. Cell phone providers compete for your business using jargon, and it’s sometimes difficult to compare rates. They offer different phones and services, so figuring out which will best suit your needs can be a hassle, especially since most providers want you to sign a one or two-year contract, which often eliminates the ability to test out the service.
In this site, we cut through the jargon and give you simple-to-understand reviews of top cell phone providers. You’ll also find articles about choosing a cell phone and how to deal with authorized resellers and recent new stories on cell phone providers to help you make an informed decision on which cell phone provider is right for you. At TopTenREVIEWS, We Do the Research So You Don’t Have To.â„¢
What to Look for in a Cell Phone Provider
You need a cell phone provider who offers the widest selection of features and avoids hidden charges and costs. Excellent customer service is also necessary.
Even though each cell phone provider offers many different plans—ranging in price and plan availability—we found a nationwide plan that was as close to a $39.00 monthly price tag as possible (some of the providers don’t actually offer nationwide coverage). In addition to this base price, most cell phone providers offer premium features that only add a few dollars to your monthly bill.
Below are the criteria that TopTenREVIEWS used to evaluate cell phone providers:
    Feature Set
Cell phone providers should include a wide variety of options, including call waiting, call forwarding, Bluetooth (internet connectivity), text messaging and more.
    Service Area On-Network
Service providers should offer extensive coverage areas, including nationwide coverage. Metropolitan areas should offer exceptional service. All of the cell phone providers we reviewed offer off-network coverage (which generally extends to cover the entire continental United States), but this feature often includes additional charges.
    Minutes
A good cell phone provider should offer plans with a good minute-to-dollar ratio. Overage charges should be minimal, and the cell phone plan should offer free mobile-to-mobile minutes, free long distance and similar features.
    Help/Support Options
Cell phone providers should offer extensive support, including phone support, an online FAQs page, live chat and an email contact address.

JD Power as of today – http://www.jdpower.com/telecom/ratings/wireless-customer-care-ratings-%28volume-1%29

J.D. Power and Associates surveys more than 20,000 cell phone users for the second volume of its 2008 U.S. Wireless Contract Regional Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) study. Carriers are rated across six… U.S. regions in key areas including call quality, brand image, cost of service, service plan options, billing and customer service. Verizon Wireless performs particularly well in the study, ranking highest in five out of six regions (including four ties). Strengths include call quality, brand image, service plan options and billing. T-Mobile places second overall in customer satisfaction, earning high ratings for cost of service, billing and service plan options. Alltel earns a tie for best in the Southeast and North Central regions, while U.S. Cellular ties for best in the Southwest region. J.D. Power and Associates also publishes the results of its surveys of call quality, customer care and wireless retail sales satisfaction. Verizon fares best overall in call quality and retail sales satisfaction, while T-Mobile provides the best customer care experience, according to the reports.

PC Magazine Rating, as of today – http://www.pcmag.com/image_popup/0,1871,iid=212929,00.asp

Yes, it’s the network. While our readers liked all of their cell-phone carriers a little more this year than last year, they liked Verizon Wireless the enough to make it the Readers’ Choice among contract providers. Readers appreciate Verizon’s unparalleled coverage and call quality, but dislike its high prices. T-Mobile, on the other hand, has low prices and good support but poorer coverage. Two good alternatives might be regional carriers US Cellular (also a Readers’ Choice again this year, with the same 7.8 overall score) and Alltel, both of which did well in our ratings thanks to very flexible plan options. At press time, Verizon has plans to buy Alltel, so enjoy the smaller company while you can—that flexibility is probably doomed.
For the second year running, Sprint Nextel had the worst scores of any contract mobile provider in our survey, though its numbers were slightly better than last year’s, when we still had Sprint and Nextel rated separately. Their scores were below average in nearly every subcategory, with a truly abysmal technical support result of 5.5 being a lowlight.
When it comes to pay-as-you-go/prepaid services, Virgin Mobile’s prices, options, and customer service put a smile on our readers’ faces again; Virgin climbed to an overall score of 7.8, up from 7.5 last year. TracFone also saw improvement this year. Verizon’s InPulse prepaid system fell from grace after earning the Readers’ Choice last year, with readers grousing about high prices

    http://wsf2.letstalk.com/reviews/planreviews.htm

This site sells wireless phones and cell phone plans and features customer reviews. The services are rated on a five-point scale. However, the methodology is unscientific, and ratings are not weighted by… the number of respondents (for example, prepaid provider Net10, which has 10 reviews, is rated higher than T-Mobile, which has 12 reviews). The site does offer useful tools to compare prices and services from available carriers, though.

Cliffy44, none of the authoritive mess even comes close to what I experience. I didn’t read it either because the tone with which asked what my opinion would seemed to imply I should change it based on what someone says what it should be. Do the same research on att and it may say things are fine but that is not reality, writing a soliloquy on how a few sites disagree doesn’t translate into what someone actually experiences. Now that 10/18 is launch day for the Tilt 2 with the only difference being it should have WinMo 6.5

Cliffy44 Reply: The perceived tone , for which I apologize for, was unintentional. I knew that JD Power rated Sprint in a not too favorable light. I heard that the FCC was also not too kind to Sprint; by merit of the service that Sprint offered.
I didn’t expect to see all the negative reports that Sprint got; and after reading them, that’s where the “tone” might have emanated from. It’s not relevant to me, as I just pre-ordered 2 Tilt 2′s; and I got 1 for free.

Don Louie Cantone Said: Do the same research on att and it may say things are fine but that is not reality, writing a soliloquy on how a few sites disagree doesn’t translate into what someone actually experiences.
Cliffy44 Reply: I didn’t do the research on Sprint. I just Googled “Cellular Carrier Service Comparison”; and I let the carriers fall wherever they fell. You hafta admit that the names of the reviewers demand respect for being authoritative. AND, I was NOT trying to suggest that you switch carriers, because I know that neither of us could talk the other into switching from who we are currently using. I wanted to switch from VZW, because they irked me.

Don Louie Cantone Said: Now that 10/18 is launch day for the Tilt 2 with the only difference being it should have WinMo 6.5.
Cliffy44 Reply: And, for that, I thank you, because as of yesterday, I didn’t know what’s still referred to as the unofficial tentative release date. I’m hoping that that date falls into the term of “reality”. BUT, my 2 Tilt 2 handsets will be here when they get here. It’ll also have Push To Talk and FM Radio anda Garmin GPS optional program; and a few other things (or so I’m told) that hadn’t been included in any of the reference links that I’ve posted here. BUT, as I’ve recently agreed with you about, any and all of that is still to be seen – Hopefully on the 18th of next month.

Don, you are welcome, if you wish to continue to write to me here and / or if you wish, you may also write to me at my E-Mail address, that I include in every post; as anyone reading our dialog is also able to chose how and if they write to me.

Seeing all the pictures of the AT&T Fortress / Tilt 2 with a dedicated upper row of numerals was a refreshing change upwards from my Fuze (Touch Pro 1). And, I never missed a chance to write about my fantasy headset in these posts, as I thought that it was the best thing since the wheel, sliced bread and fire.

Now, I guess that I still want it, because of it;s capabilities, graphics and features; BUT, when I saw that the upper row of the Tilt 2 wasn’t numerals, it was like being with Carmen Electra after 19 Long Island Ice Teas – IF you know what I mean.

HTC, in my estimation, you screwed up perfection.

NOW, I’m going to see about the Windows XP Cell phone. OR, I most probably still will get the TP2. BUT, I’m nowhere near as psyched and thrilled as I was before.
