LG Chocolate BL40 launching mid-September in Europe, October elsewhere

General

Perhaps it’s the ultra-wide 21:9 touchscreen display or maybe it’s the revised LG UI, but something about the Chocolate BL40 intrigues us. The simple fact that this handset is decidedly different from anything else on the market could be what’s drawing us in. Whatever the case, LG has just officially announced that its new oddball Chocolate phone will launch sometime toward the middle of this month in Europe. According to the release, the rest of the world will get the handset in October, though specific markets remain unnamed. To refresh your memory and whet your appetite, this Black Label phone features a 4-inch 800×345 pixel touchscreen display, LG’s S Class UI, a 5 megapixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach lens, 7.2Mbps UMTS/HSDPA connectivity, Wi-Fi, and aGPS. The specs are there, the unique factor is there — the question is whether or not the market is there for a barely-pocketable feature phone with what will undoubtedly be a lofty price tag.

Is it interesting looking? Yes. But by the looks of it with the screen being 4″ and the bezel at the top and bottom adding another 1″/1.5″ you’re going to have a real tall device. A dollar is 6 inches long and looking the pockets on my slacks it would be sticking out of the top or hanging out the side. None the less its still interesting. (Cant expect anything less from a company which created a legit watch phone.)

ooooooooooooooo i hope verizon gets this and not the BL20

Like Peter Martin said, depending on price, there may not be much a market for this. Nonetheless, it is cool and maybe it’ll lead to other devices with a similar form factor?

This devise is hot as hell!!!!!
but considering how long this phone is, SAFE storage for travel is gonna be a mother!

this will be better than the iphone, tell me does the iphone have a 4″ touchscreen? NO!

  • I wish they ditched the stupid “recent calls” button, and made the camera button flow with the design better like the volume rocker. Those are the only two flaws in my eyes. Well, the microphone hole and headphone jack could have been centered, and the conference camera/proximity sensor/ambient light sensor/microphone hole could have been hidden better, too. An OLED/AMOLED display wouldn’t hurt. Neither would a Xenon flash.

I know, I know; I’m just pointing out all of the flaws. It’s a really good phone, and I’m planning on getting it.

@ H.N.I.C, bringing the Chocolate might be a problem but just make sure you have Twent8twelve designer case. Whenever it will fall out of your pocket you can be sure it is protected against scratches! I do think that watching movies on the 21/9 will be great.

I have an LG Incite and there is barely room to type on the screen. This looks even smaller and as much as I like the look of this phone to the point of jumping carriers for it, I want to see the emailing and texting experience before making up my mind.

    I REALLLYY WANT THIS PHONE!!
IF IT DOESN’T COME TO VERIZON I WILL CRY. JK. But this phone looks soo nice. My only concern being a girl is that it will not fit in my pocket at all, but i guess we will see!!

I think it was great when it came on the market. Now it’s more like been there, seen that. There are better phones now. The displays are really better now
