Best Buy to offer Sprint’s HTC Hero rebate-free; pre-orders already available in some locations

Exclusive

Best Buy announced yesterday that it would be Sprint’s exclusive retail partner (for 60 days, we hear) for the highly anticipated HTC Hero, which will be available at each of Best Buy’s 1,044 locations across the country beginning October 11th. As is always the case with Best Buy Mobile, there is no need to bother with that pesky mail-in rebate as BBYM is spotting customers the $100 and offering the Hero for a straight $179.99 on a 2-year contract. We’ve also learned that while pre-orders aren’t officially available yet, some locations are already offering to cement your position at the front of the Hero line. For those of you with nearby Best Buys that aren’t willing to bend the rules, pre-orders should officially be available in just over a week. If you’re lucky however, a lax location, a friendly sales rep and a $50 deposit are all you need to make it happen — as you can clearly see from the image above.

Thanks, Zane!

Val, you’re actually a special case and there are quite a few like you. That info was for new subs and people not on special perked plan, like me

No. They won’t be sorry. They’ll have the choice and the freedom to make their phone look and run the way they want it to when they want it to. Oh, and on a network that doesn’t suck. And when you finally get the ability to send pictures to someone from your iphone at the end of September, enjoy it, because it will probably cripple AT&Ts craptacular network. And then there’s this:

So tell us again, why will we be sorry?

Keeping the iPhone ROFL ~~ You will be the one who is SOOOORRRRYYYYY lol ~~ AT&T only 65% reliable ROFL you just keep ur little iPhone (by the way with a iPod you can do allthe same things and save $100 a month) ~~ get the best coverage for your cell phone with Sprint and pay “real people” prices

i like the fact that sprint has a android phone now, but the cdma version or sprint version is ugly,i really wish they stayed with the gsm design, then i would have got it, now here comes touch pro2

I like the design change but do think the original is nice too. I want to again nominante Sprint they attempted and rescinded 9/8/09 on the Pre but i say make it for all new smartphones like the Pre, Hero, Touch Pro 2, Diamond 2, Instinct Q and even the Pixi. Heck throw in the Instinct HD for good measure

I reserved my HTC Hero for Sprint yesterday, 9-20-09 at Best Buy here in Austin, TX. I can’t wait to get rid of my AT&T contract and iPhone. 1st off, $50 for unlimited data and texting? Not to mention, 900 minutes only? I shouldn’t have ever switched phone services from Sprint. EVER. I’ll never do it again. Best damn network in the country. Verizon can have that damned iPhone, and let it clog up their network, regardless of whether it’s exclusively working on their new LTE or EV-DO technology. AT&T’s spotty signal and continuous dropped calls…. I just can’t take it anymore. Nowadays, when I complete a successful phone call lasting more than 5-10 minutes without dropping the call, I’m actually surprised because it is so incredibly rare.

@ Will… Lucky you. The Associates here at the Best Buy in Myrtle Beach SC is about as Dumb as a bunch of rocks. Didn’t even know what this phone was all about. I told her to look on the internet.
