iPhone MMS finally coming to AT&T on September 25th

Software

Got an iPhone from AT&T and love spending your days complaining about how you don’t have MMS when everyone else in the world does? Well guess what, Apple fans: you can stop your complaining on September 25th when MMS goes live via a software update. Thanks AT&T, that was nice and expeditious of you — should we go ahead and expect tethering some time in 2011?

Thanks, Justin!

    amen ibold. i work in the wireless industry and play with cellphones all day. is mms all that of a crucial feature in any phone? it doesn’t matter how advanced any “god phone” gets. it will just give you whiny p*ssies something else to complain about. and for all of you complaining about price for the data….how else is any carrier supposed to finance the network to provide you the data coverage and speeds you want?

  • at&t4lyfe

    copyright copyright copyright…Apple is no jokin’ like hoboken about copyright, I still say thats why MMS took so long

    its over, fanboys/girls. the i-train is almost leaving big blue. get used to, and start practicing praising big red. its just a “stupid’ business decision on behalf of apple, adn it makes a lot of sense. to be able to reach so many million more potential customers, all at a time when the whole exclusivity business is coming under a microscope by the FCC, there is no better time for them to start signing multi contracts. good for them.

    ———–dont you get it? were living in a new era where everything is a given, an eternal right, and its about looking down on a person who actually works hard and accomplishes something and dares to make a profit! a cell phone is a right that’s should be in the constitution! lol

    Its not like they are leaving. There are lots of phones that are multiple carrier. But if you gave me a choice of which one I would rather have for the iPhone, I would choose AT&T for these reasons. 1) History says that VZW will modify it to drive people to their services. It may not be the case for iPhone because Apple is very particular and conscious about their image, but hey .. its VZW. 2) VZW will not let me use voice and data at the same time. I RELIGIOUSLY voice conference with friends using my headset and use Yelp or Google Maps to research places to go or reviews. Or help friends out with driving directions over the phone. These things are not possible with VZW. With them, you get information at your fingertips, which is great thing about iPhone, but you get it only part of the time. When you are not talking. This will not cut it for me.

    @Christopher Cox: You can’t use voice and data at the same time on AT&T either, UNLESS you’re on a Wifi Network. Try making a phone call out in the middle of nowhere, then check Google Maps or open up Safari and start browsing.

    @Noah
    Ummmm yes you can. You can’t do it using EDGE, but can when 3G is enabled. I do it all the time. I have no access to the WiFI network for personal devices at work, so I turn it off and talk on the phone plus do data all the time.

    I have been able to do this with my BB Bold as well as long as you have a 3G connection.

    You are talking out your butt right now. Anyone who uses 3G on AT&T can quickly tell you that voice and data at the same time works great with AT&T.

    @Noah,
    Here is the AT&T page to explain:
    http://www.wireless.att.com/businesscenter/business-programs/government/technology/voice-data.jsp

    AT&T advertises it, and it works without a hitch. Like I said … Only with 3G turned on. EDGE connection will not work.

    As a matter of face, AT&T announced an upgrade to the towers making it so phones will fall back to EDGE unless 3G is needed, which will make their network better, but removing simultaneous voice and data. For all phones EXCEPT iPhone and Bold.

    I say we just file law suits for false advertisement. They are giving us mms in early fall, not late summer.

    @tpot,
    And … you would go absolutely nowhere. The end of summer is not a solid date and is different depending on your viewpoint. From an astronomical standpoint, we use equinoxes and solstices. But that will be different depending on hemisphere. From a culture standpoint, some areas of the US consider summer as beginning memorial day weekend. The Irish calendar says it begins May 1 and ends August 1.

    “Summer” is not a static date that is the same to everyone. Good look with that lawsuit.

    many people that bought the iphone didn’t even know they cannot send mms – is true lol

    The Irony of course being that the picture they used has a woman with a 2G iPhone, which is not capable of MMS.

    @Joe
    Tethering will not officially be available September 25th.

    I don’t see the iPhone on VZ till LTE, however, there are a few market research analysis who believe there will be a CDMA variant prior to LTE. The current state of CDMA is more then capable. Surely even more capable then current GSM offering.

  • Fanboy

    Actually it’s Analyst. ;-)

    I don’t really think Verizon will make a big impact on the iPhone as far as reception goes. The iPhone is terrible as a phone – reception wise. I have both an iPhone and a Bold for work and there are plenty of places I drop calls and get better reception with my Bold. One place in particular, my iPhone will drop EVERY single time. In fact I have to use my Bold just to make calls in that area… and no it’s not my particular iPhone. I’ve had my 3GS swapped out twice (brand new headsets) and they have all had the same issue.

  • Giorgio

    …. I love my iPhone and wouldn’t trade it for anything in VZW or at&t’s current line up, but I can’t truly say it’s the best PHONE (being the key word RF-wise) out there by any stretch.

  • misfitwrx

    i have been with all three of the major carriers (att, sprint, and verizon) and when you get similar packages on each one they are essentially the same monthly price, they may advertise them different but after all the taxes and hidden fees they all end up about the same price. as far as reception goes that seems to be more location specific. for where i live att is way better that vzw. so when all you guys jump ship for vzw just be prepared to pay maybe less than 10 dollars a month different. by the way im coming from an att fuze to the iphone and i actually enjoy USING my phone now as opposed to just Tweaking the settings of winmo(gets old quick)

    @Fanboy,
    The fact that vzw phones will not let you talk on the phone and use data at the same time tells me it is less than capable. On my AT

    Okay hard ass, sorry I don’t study when summer ends. Who honestly has time to look at that and remember every single one? Get a life

    @ chris cox
    well said, BUT! dont forget that VZW is rolling out LTE for that reason, to be as data friendly as possible for the newest devices including the iphone. they know they have to come to apple and present a capable netwrok that’l be ready for the kinds of up/downloads an typical apple user got to live with. so i very well believe that data/voice simultaneously will be ready when the APPLE/VZ talks start in earnest. and everything points to talks. you got a credible, reliable network that has the biggest prize, consumer satisfaction, and all they need is great devices to utilize on it. plus, the business blogs are actively discussing it as a no brainer for apple.
