Two new Palm handsets allegedly hit Sprint’s inventory system; webOS fans allegedly cry tears of joy

Rumor

It appears as though webOS junkies may soon have a new way to get their fix — two new ways, even. According to a screenshot allegedly depicting Sprint’s inventory system, not one but two new Palm handsets have materialized; the 120 and C40. Let’s look at what we’ve got: Sprint’s Pre is coded as 100, or P100 in internal systems. At Verizon, it’s pretty safe to assume the Pre has been dubbed P101 as we’ve seen several references to it. Both the screenshot above and the shots in this post also depict a device coded 12x — the 120 is listed above and the P121 is reportedly in Verizon’s inventory system right now. We’ve seen the 120 referenced earlier as well, and it was always thought to be the Eos. As both carriers are rumored to be getting Palm’s Centro replacement in the near future, the Eos being designated as 12x might still be a safe bet. As for what the C40 could be however, we’re stumped. If the C40 is actually the Eos and the 120 is a refreshed Pre of some sort, why does Verizon have both the P101 and P121 in its inventory right now? Does Big Red plan to launch 8GB and 16GB Pre models simultaneously, a la older iPhone models? Hit the comments and let us know what you think.

    Its the EOS and the Pre Pro… Palm talked about having a “Professional” version of the ever popular entertainment device. I don’t know what the model number is coresponding to each one but I’m pretty sure its the EOS and Pre Pro…

    The Pre rocks and I’m an old iphone user, I ditched the iphone and at&t’s carp service for Palm and Sprint, it was one of the best moves I did. webOS makes the Iphones OS look like its still in Beta. As well as I was paying around $180/month for the iphone on at&t and I only pay $99/month with sprint plus I got rid of my homephone so it saves me evan more :-)

    I’ve been reading on this site for a wail and I think we can all agree that at&t service sucks and the iphone is 2nd best to the pre. So I guess my question is why would anyone in the right mind back the iphone and at&t?

    But that is just my 2 cents!

    E71 Has the best keyboard in my book. I would be open to a new touchscreen centro with WebOs if i cant cover the whole keyboard with my thumb like on the Pre…..I want a full Qwery touchscreen (No slider) With A Blackberry sized keyboard……guess thats a tall order.

    @John-
    What in the world were you getting for $180/month? That is by far the highest wireless bill I’ve ever heard of.

    I’m also wondering how MMS is working out for you Iphone trolls.

    BB has similar variations on the same device on diff networks (ie 8320 and 8330 for att and verizon respectively) this is prob same pre.

    Web os in its infancy has to be the greatest os I have ever used. When palm has a webos device on everynetwork I expect palm to be 3rd or 2nd in marketshare

    Hopefully these will have far better build quality than the Pre. I left AT&T for Sprint and the Pre and was disappointed by the four Pres I had. The first dropped calls and wouldn’t send text messages reliably. The second had a large crack coming out from the micro-USB port, the third had a large crack running from the centre button and the fourth was working great until the touch screen stopped responding. I did figure a temporary work around which involved pushing on the USB port which got the screen working. It was at that point Sprint wanted me to pay a $100 dollar deductible for a fifth phone at day 20 of my contract.

    I hope I was the exception rather than the rule, but the Pre I think was built with Elmer’s glue and a prayer.

    That’s the one thing I didn’t like about it, knowing how clumsy I am, it wouldn’t last 2 weeks with me. My X has beat the mess out of hers

    @J

    the best keyboard ever is on a Palm 800w. having used prior Treos, BBs and a Pre, my 800w is by far my favorite.

    if only Palm would take the 800w form factor and apply some WebOS love in a non-slider…the 800w build is indestructible and avoids the need to cover your phone with a case or sleeve, which I hated on my BBTour to protect it. covering it with a case negates the nice build feel of many phones and makes it unnecessarily thick when you buy a nice sleek phone.

    go Palm.

    Best keyboard, hands down, BlackBerry Bold.

    Had an iPhone, didn’t like that keyboard.

    Had an e71x. Nice, but not as good as Bold.

    Had an 8800 and 8300 for a long time. 8300 > 8800, by far, not better than Bold.

    I haven’t tried the 800w, so can’t speak to it. Have played with a Prê, yeah, not so great. Too much like Centro, yes?

    Played with my buddy’s Tour. Nice, very nice but smaller than Bold and therefor not as good.

    Had an 8900. Again, nice but just not in Bold’s league.

    This is what cnet said about your precious 800w keyboard:

    Given that the Treo 800w is larger than the Centro, the QWERTY keyboard isn’t as small and cramped. However, we didn’t find it particularly roomy or easy to use either. There isn’t a whole lot of spacing between the keys, so users with larger thumbs may experience some mispresses. We thought they also felt a bit stiff.

    My thumb covers the entire pre keyboard. That’s bad..

    Wow, there’s a lot of chatter about keyboard quality. I’m a little over 6’0, and have fairly large hands, and have no problems using the pre keyboard, top row included.

    Sure, there are qwerty’s that are “roomier,” but WHENEVER you switch from one qwerty to another, you’re going to have to retrain your hands a bit. When these blogs put out their reviews, they’re under time pressure to get the review out, and likely haven’t had much time to adapt. The pre’s keyboard works great, just give yourself a couple days to adjust to it.

    Frankly, all of this rank ordering is really meaningless in the real world. If you had a Bold, and switched to the Pre, within a couple weeks, the difference in “typing speed” would be insignificant.

    (for perspective, the Centro’s keys were way too small.)

    and just a sidenote…considering how incredible the “bones” of WebOS are… I can’t imagine the awesomeness after a year or two of maturation. It’s already great.

    i got used to my pre keyboard after 2 weeks of using it and there also is a crack with a virtual keyboard for the pre if you know what you’re doing as shown on cnet:
